Emmet
Sh*t. Sh*t. SH*T! I slept in! My alarm went off at five but I must have turned it off instead of snoozing it.
It’s now five thirty five and I’m running around like a mad man trying to get dressed into something appropriate before I bolt down the staircase at full speed.
Luckily for me, I have a wolf now and I arrive at the training facility in no time at all. Maybe I can just slip inside and no one will notice.
Unluckily for me, there’s a line of people standing up facing all the wolves, whom just happen to be laying face down on the floor. Great, so much for my sneaky ninja entrance.
“Latecomer, you’ll stay an extra thirty minutes after we’re done here.” Someone yells at me. My brain registers the familiar voice causing my brain to kick into overdrive.
Head trainer.
Arriving back here the same night as I happen to arrive.
Finishing up a secret mission.
He’s a f*cking werewolf!
I rush at him at full speed and grip him by the collar. Anger rips through me in an uncontrollable frenzy.
“YOU F*CKING LIED TO ME!” I roar in his face, c*****g my fist back ready to punch him.
“Let me at him!” Zeus barks loudly in my mind.
“Whoa whoa calm down!” Apollo tries to separate us but my hold is too tight.
“Emmet, not here.” Oliver says calmly to me.
I feel another set of hands on me which send tingles throughout my body.
“Emmet, remember what I said. The walls have ears. I need you to calm down right now.” Athena mind links me.
Her gentle tone somehow manages to dissipate my anger. I release my grip on Oliver and take a step back.
“Nice of you to join us. Now take your place on the floor like everyone else.” Oliver commands me.
I do as I’m told and drop to the floor. What is this, some kind of power trip? Oliver never seemed like the kind of guy that would command a room full of people. My mind floods with the memories we’ve shared over the past few years. I guess I never really knew him at all.
“Your warm up today is one hundred push ups and fifteen laps around the room. The last ten wolves will be helping out on patrol tonight. Begin!” Oliver demands and music blares through the room.
I guess that explains why our noses are buried in the ground. I never used to work out so my form is terrible. I guess I’ll have to make up time in the laps.
The training facility is around the size of three basketball courts. Many wolves have already begun their laps. Athena intentionally moves in front of me, allowing me to inhale her scent and further calm my nerves.
Her wild curls are tied in a high ponytail and she’s wearing a matching royal blue crop top and tights set. You know those tights that girls wear these days that enhance their booties? Yep, those. It’s hard to avert my gaze with her cheeks bouncing up and down as she jogs.
Zeus growls in my mind. Finding it hard to control myself, I run around her and find my own pace. I don’t want to be in the last ten to finish.
“Alright, now I want you all go pair up and begin sparring in human form. Remember the techniques we’ve been working on.” Oliver announces once we finish the warm up.
“Wanna get some of that anger out?” Apollo asks, clapping me on the back. “I can be your punching bag.”
“Whatever, let’s do this.” I say.
“Want me to go easy on you?”
I shake my head as we move into fighting stances. Apollo throws a punch at my ribs which I barely dodge. He’s quick, I shouldn’t underestimate him.
I go to throw my own punch except my ribs are met with a swift roundhouse kick. I swear I hear some bones cracking. I’m doubled over, clutching at my side when my feet get swept out from underneath me. I land on my back with a loud thud.
Oliver’s stupid face appears in my line of vision. “In battle you’ll have no time to rest. Your enemy will be ferocious and cunning. Do you think they’ll give you time to recover?”
I clamber to my feet. “f**k off Oliver.” I growl, my anger beginning to rise again.
I raise my fists at Apollo. He aims a punch to my face except this time I’m ready for him. I dodge to the right before my fist connects with his face. Now it’s his turn to grip at his body in pain. He spits out a mouthful of blood.
“Wow, nice shot newbie.” He praises me. “Man you can sure pack a punch.”
“Thanks.” I mumble.
After what feels like hours of beating each other up, Oliver finally dismisses everyone except me of course. The hoard of people surrounding me move towards the exit and I earn myself a few nudges against my shoulders.
Amongst the chaos, I barely register anyone’s faces as I fight against the current to reach Oliver. He’s going to get a piece of my mind.
Although, I don’t make it that far when it feels like my entire body is on fire. In the blink of an eye, I feel myself falling to the floor and slipping into unconsciousness. The last thing I remember is Zeus whimpering in my mind.
