CHAPTER SEVEN- snacks for lunch and pizza for dinner

2010 Words
The next day came and Adrianna was in a fairly good mood, she seemed to have forgotten the huge mess she created for Derek after a goodnight's sleep. After a brief shower, Adrianna grabbed a hanger from her closet that contained her famous suit. As a lawyer, the most popular colors were white and black but so she usually wore the best black suits she owned. After slipping on her suit, she slipped on red pumps and applied makeup. She usually didn't give a f**k about appearance but today happened to be a special day for her and she was feeling productive as well. With the bright energy she contained, she felt like she could handle any obstacles that came her way and if care wasn't taken, she could actually solve all the country's injustice problems— That was just how she felt. Adrianna got into her white Mercedes Benz and just when she got on the road, she realized that she hadn't had breakfast. On the way, she stopped in a restaurant to buy food. Then she continued to drive to work. She especially felt like she was doing good in life when she pulled up to Jones's firm. She was greeted by subordinates as soon as she stepped into the firm. The cutthroat energy was in the air and it made her feel refreshed and good! Now that her hiatus was over, she would do her best! When Adrianna finally reached the front of her office, her excitement increased. She'd never felt so enthusiastic to work hard in her entire life. Just then she heard the clicking of heels across from her. Joyfully, she turned around and was met with the stern look of her step-sister, Hayley. "Fancy seeing you, sister," Adrianna placed a finger under her chin thoughtfully before a smile curved into her lips upon seeing Hayley's disgusted expression. Hayley scoffed and stepped forward, "The entertainment news is a mess, Ria. Thanks to you." Adrianna's smile grew bigger. "You called me Ria!" Apparently, Adrianna tended to feel loved whenever she was called by the shortened version of her name. Well, it could be said that her bar was far too low, for a high-class woman. "Don't feel special, delinquent," Hayley crossed her arms over her chest and looked away. Even so, that didn't stop Adrianna from smiling. "By the way, how many days did it take you to gather evidence against Derek? I heard you exposed him right after fifty percent of his wealth was transferred to you." "Whatever!" It was Adrianna's turn to roll her eyes, "Why bother to ask if you know." Hayley sighed, dropping her arms to her side. "You already had evidence before he tried to kill you— No, probably way before that." Adrianna's silence was proof to prove Hayley's statement. "You're such a monster," Hayley said. "Whatever, you'll be seeing my face often now, Hayley. Prepare yourself." Hayley facepalmed herself while imitating the expression of someone that was about to barf. "Well, I'll be in my office if you need me, Hae." "It's Hayley!" She yelled but it was too late. Adrianna had already entered her office and the door had been slammed in Hayley's face. "That b***h!" She yelled, "I'll be sure to give her hell." Adrianna giggled as she entered her office. "Now..." She noticed that the office was clean. It was probably cleaned every day. Even as little as it seemed, she appreciated the gesture. Adrianna realized that she forgot her laptop at home so she decided to use her phone to contact her secretary. They usually talked via email because her secretary was not a 'talk' person but she usually did great over text and she was fast too. In about two hours, she'd had a new schedule and she was totally ready for it. After eating breakfast, she went to attend to her first client for the day. He was a rich man with good prestige. However, he didn't seem to have good character. He admitted to Adrianna the crimes he did and Adrianna was quick to find him the way out. This was another reason she was very well-liked. She was not a lawyer in name alone. She was the kind to give the results that were needed. Well, as long as she was paid well— Not like she took jobs with low pay. Even though she was to defend scumbags, she did it so well that her clients usually involved businessmen that had linkings in the underworld. Weeks passed and Adrianna was enjoying the thrill of being a lawyer. However, her energy levels were slowly going down, and eating good food could no longer cut it. One day, on a weekend Adrianna was lazing around on the sofa when she received notifications from an entertainment news source. It was speculation from the media to see if she was pregnant or not? Even though it was just harmless speculation she could let slide, she felt bothered about it. After all, she'd had an affair with some man. She thought deeply and remembered that his First name was Thomas and he was Derek's friend. However, the possibility of her being pregnant with his child was unappealing. She didn't want it. Also, she remembered that she was on the pill when she had s*x with him so there was no way she'd be pregnant. Even when she slept with Derek when she wasn't on the pill, she didn't get pregnant so she was certain she wasn't pregnant so she could only direct her blame at the food she'd been eating for the past few weeks. Somehow, divorcing Derek made her so hungry. It was about time she inserted some exercise into her daily regimen. If she did enough exercise, the fat on her stomach would be gone by Monday. Adrianna's heart thumped in her chest at the thought of skipping meals. If she skipped meals and exercised, she would burn a lot of fat. However, she couldn't skip meals. In an hour, she would find herself in front of the fridge, wondering what snack would be her next conquest. Then she exercised for an hour and slept off without showering because she was too tired. The weekend passed in a flash and Adrianna found herself wearing a slightly unfit suit to hide her slightly big stomach. She did not manage to achieve the flat stomach she wanted so the least she could do was be mindful of the outfit she wore. When Adrianna got to work, she was informed by a junior that a client had come to see her and he was waiting in her office. However, he didn't leave a name and he looked pretty loaded. Adrianna was confused. She did not have an arrangement until 10 am and the time was 8 am. She decided to not worry about it and get to her office first. When she entered her office, she almost dropped her lunch bag and purse upon seeing the man in her office. Dirty brown hair, hypnotizing green eyes. She recognized him right away from those basic features. She'd recognize him anywhere. He wasn't the type to be easily forgotten. "Th-Thomas," Adrianna stuttered. Thomas, whose eyes were scanning the office, halted and landed on her upon hearing her call his name. A sigh of relief escaped from his lips and he walked past the desk to take large strides toward her. Adrianna thought he would stop a few meters in front of her but he ended up pressing her up against the wall, causing her to drop her purse. Her lunch bag still remained tightly wrapped around her fingers. "Thomas," Adrianna repeated, looking into his gorgeous eyes which were shining with admiration. Thomas lifted his hand to caress her face and it sent shivers down her spine. She didn't expect that— even Thomas didn't expect from what he had just done. That was definitely off the script. Without hesitation, Adrianna pushed Thomas. It was almost like a reflex. Everything about him, his scent, his breath, his eyes reminded her of the memories of that night... She wasn't sure she could take it if he was in the same room as her. It was almost like her world stopped when he was in front of her face like this. Somehow, she forgot to breathe as well. "Adrianna," Thomas whispered, moving closer to her face. Her push did not affect him and she felt weak when he was this— Thomas's nose brushed against hers and her eyes widened in surprise. Thomas's eyes were now closed and he caressed her nose with his. It sent flutters through Adrianna's stomach and it made her uncomfortable. How he could ignore her space and brush against her without hesitation? What kind of person was this?! "What are you—" The moment Adrianna opened her mouth to speak, she mistakenly brushed her mouth against Thomas's. This moment lasted only a few seconds before Thomas took a step back. But he was still pretty close to her face. Adrianna did not know what to say. Her ex-husband's friend was right here in front of her and he'd brushed his nose against hers. Their mouths also brushed against each other's for a few seconds. How could this phenomenon be explained? Also, how could she start a conversation with him without it sounding awkward? It was hard for her to decide. "Nice to see you again, Adrianna. You look splendid as usual." Adrianna looked up to meet Thomas's eyes upon hearing his words. He was polite alright but it was still awkward... "You shouldn't be here, Thomas." Adrianna straightened up. "You dared use my name to cause trouble for your ex-husband, you have quite the guts." Although Thomas's words carried weight, he didn't look the least angry. Adrianna clenched her fists and walked past Thomas to her desk. She placed her lunch bag on the desk and took a seat. "If you're here to seek revenge for my ex-husband, please leave. But if you insist, I'll kill you." Thomas followed Adrianna with his eyes as she moved to her desk. He couldn't help but be fascinated by her feistiness. Even her threatening him sounded so hot. "Don't worry, Adrianna. I came here for something entirely different." "Oh?" Adrianna said unbothered. "Can you wait a few minutes? I feel unwell and would like to have breakfast first. Also, I have an appointment in..." Adrianna arched her neck to look at the wall clock. It was a quarter past 8. "...An hour and forty-five minutes," Adrianna concluded. After a few seconds passed, Thomas didn't look like he was about to move so she said. "If there's time to talk after I'm done eating, I might talk to you." "Okay," Thomas took a seat in front of Adrianna and she unzipped her lunch bag without shame. Thomas was an acquaintance of Derek, there was no need to impress him. Adrianna grabbed the packaged plate out of the bag and opened it. Thomas frowned upon seeing what it was. "You eat fast food?" "Ehm..." Adrianna was taken aback by his question. She expected him to panic and yell at her for wasting his time but here he was asking if she was a fan of fast food. "Well... I feel a bit tired recently so I can't make my own food so fast food does it for me." Adrianna had no idea why she was telling him this information but it just felt natural coming out of her mouth. "And what do you have for lunch, snacks?" Adrianna's cheeks turned a bright pink upon hearing Thomas's correct assumption. "I'm guessing you order pizza for dinner." Adrianna slammed her fist into the desk in annoyance. "So?!" She asked, "What's wrong with having snacks for lunch and pizza for dinner?" A tear rolled down Adrianna's cheeks which she quickly wiped. She had no idea why she was so worked up about what he said but still… He was wrong for saying that!
