Chapter 8 At the end of the summer of 1957, Josie sat down to explain to Jason that he was now a big boy, and big boys got to go to school. “You already know your alphabet,” the big sister said as she held her brother on her lap, “and know lots of words, so you will make a great reader.” Jason liked the idea of learning to read his own books, and was excited about going to school. At least until he found out that since Doris would not be 6 until after November, she would not be starting to school until the following school year.
