Leah’s face grew ashen as she read the memo and then she began to cry. Colin, unsure what to say or do, sat quietly until she stopped.
“Well,” she began, “the payments would be even less than our current rent, but we’d have to pay the taxes, utilities, and things like that, but, the down-p*****t. There’s no way we could pay that. We barely have a hundred dollars saved. But if we move out of town, they’ll still let you work there?”
“Yeah, they said that if you don’t buy, they won’t make you quit. But they did say they wouldn’t take as an excuse not finding rides to work, and that’s the other thing. I’d have to pay for a ride to work, since you drive the Ford to Independence. I don’t think we could find a house close enough out of town to walk here
