Chapter 7 The first impression that Jason had of the Cotton Mill was about a year after the family arrived in Fries. One day the young boy was very sick. The only way he would stop crying was for Colin to carry him, rocking him in his arms, while rubbing the boy’s abdomen. But Jason remembered that his father handed him to his mother. When Jason cried and began reaching for his father, Colin tried to explain that he had to leave, and go to work at the Mill. Jason wondered what kind of terrible place the Mill was, to take his father away when he needed him so much. The other time was just after Jason turned four when he was able to see the Cotton Mill up close for the first time. Colin wanted to request a move to a house on a lower street.
