I laid awake in my bed all night thinking, thinking about where things were going in my life. I was 4 months pregnant, Jake was the father. Jake and I weren't exactly compatible, he was childish at times and I wasn't exactly wanting to take care of two kids let alone one. Jake wasn't responsible enough to be a father, if he was he sure had me fooled with the way he went about things. I feared my life would turn out just like my mothers. Married young and then divorced. In a way she was still better then me, she had been married first before she got pregnant with me. I screwed up my life before it had even started.
Around 6 in the morning there was a knock on my bedroom door, it was Jake. He gently closed the door behind himself and came to sit beside me.
"Bella-" he took a breath. "-I just wanted you to know I'm sorry about last night. I was being a jerk to you and you didn't deserve it."
I sat up and leaned against the head board. "Jake, I acknowledge your apology but I'm not ready to accept it yet."
Jake placed his hand on mine and squeezed it gently. "Things are going to get better from now on. We are going to be happy, I want you to be happy."
My eyes flickered to the hand on mine before I looked up to Jake. "I'm afraid to be happy." I whispered to him.
Jake's hand moved up along my arm, past my neck and then rested on my jaw. "You don't have to be afraid, I'm going to take care of you." he told me.
Very slowly Jake leaned in towards me and I towards him. Then I heard my mothers voice in the other room. Apparently she was excited for the move, atleast that was one of us. I leaned away from Jake as I heard my mother going on about missing the plane. I wasn't looking forward to the 12 hour flight and I knew Jake wasn't either. He hated crowded places, that was one thing we had in common.
"We should get ready." I said before I leaned away and got to my feet.
As I was getting dressed I wondered what had just happened. Jake and I almost kissed. Did I want him to kiss me or was it just a automatic response. At 7 o clock we were headed to the airport. By 8 we were in the air and on our way to Atlanta George where we would be changing flights. From there we traveled across the country over the Pacific ocean and to Honolulu.
As we began descending I realized this was it, this was the beginning of the rest of my life. In the next month I would be gettting married and then 4 months after that I would be having a baby. Secretly I wanted it to be a girl. I wanted a little me, brown hair, brown eyes light skin. I was still filled with anger towards Jacob and didn't want my child looking anything like him only because I was afraid I would despise the child.
The moment we had stepped outside the airport I was hit by the warm tropical air. It was about 2 in the evening and the sun was bright. I immeadiately smiled.
My mother joined my side quickly and wrapped her arm around my waist. "So how do you like it?" She asked excitedly.
I nodded my head as I looked around. "It's beautiful here."
Until we were able to get a new car we had a rental paid in full by the company. It was nice as we drove from the airport to our new home. Luckily it was temporarily fully furnished. Once our furniture got here we would switch it out. The moment we arrived to the house I was taken by surprise, it was more beautiful in person. When my mother saw it she began tearing up and so did I.
Jake and I headed straight over to the guest house to look around. The moment I entered I knew this was my house, for as long as I was able to keep it this house was mine.
"Nice get up eh Bella" Jake said as he nudged me. A few laughs drew Jakes attention. "Want to take a walk on the beach?" he said before slipping back outside.
I continued on exploring the rest of the house. It was marvelous, my bedroom closet and bathroom were large and spacious and even had a great view of the ocean. The second room was beautiful as well and I knew it would make a good nursery in a few months. I was actually anxious to start buying a few things. I had a little over a thousand dollars saved up and I was sure they had some nice stores on the island.
I grabbed my wallet and headed to the house to get the keys for the rental car from my mom. On my way into town I stopped to get some fresh fruits and vegetables from the farmers market, I needed to start eating a little healthier then I did. Less red meat and more fruits and vegetables. The next store I visited was the babys r us store. I had never been inside one of these before so I was extremely curious.
I parked as close as I could to the door and headed inside. I was literally stunned when I saw all the colorful baby things when I entered. As I walked down the isle I began to grow nervous as I saw the variety of things like diapers, bottles, wipes, pacifiers. It didn't make sense, where were there so many items.
"Ma'am can I help you?" A woman asked as she came into the isle.
I jerked my head a bit. "I'm looking for baby things." I replied.
"Well do you know what you are having?" she asked me.
I shook my head. "I won't find out until next week."
"Oh well there are a few things you can gather without knowing the gender like a crib, bottles, diapers."
"I guess I will just look around, if I need any help I will find you." I said before I walked off down the isle.
I made my way down isle looking at the different things before I found myself in the clothing isle. The tiny outfits fascinated me. Little pants, little socks, little shirts. I wanted so much to be able to buy some clothes but I knew I should wait until I found out if it was a boy or girl. I wanted a girl so bad, a little Bella.
After an hour of walking around and looking at things I decided to come back another time. Maybe then I would have more money and a list of things I definitely needed before I bought things. As I headed back to the house I saw a gathering of people on a beach with surf boards. This attracted me immeadiately and I just had to pull over and watch them. I've seen a bit of this sport before but never anyone as good as these Hawaiian people.
I walked over to beach and sat in the sand watching the men in the water. I wished I wasn't pregnant or about to get married because these men were really beautiful. Their tan, their long hair, their muscles.
"Heads up!" I heard a boy shout and turned around quickly only to be kneed in the face.
I quickly threw my hands up to my nose and groaned in pain. "Dammit!" I grumbled to myself as tears filled my eyes.
I felt a hand on my shoulder and looked up to see a boy with chin length hair and grey eyes, his skin glistened from sweat as he knelt down infront of me.
"I'm so sorry" he said to me quickly. "Are you bleeding" he said as he moved my hand away from my nose.
"No just sore." I mumbled.
The guy moved back and helped me to my feet.
"I'm Adam I live just around the bend." he said as he shook my hand.
"I'm Bella I just moved here today. I live-" I looked around for a landmark. "-That way" I said laughing.
"You and your family moved into the beach house over on Shanghai right?" He asked me.
I slightly nodded my head, "How do you know?"
"My father, he works in realestate. Plus we are neighbors."
How weird was this, the cute boy that almost broke my nose is my next door neighbor neighbor. My day couldn't have gotten any better.
"Do you want to go on a date sometime?" he asked.
Wait I took that back this day could get better and it just did. I got asked out by a handsome surfer who happens to be my next door neighbor.
"How old are you?" I quickly asked.
"18"
"Then lets make that a yes." I replied as I pulled my keys from my pocket. "I should get home but I'll see you whenever."
I went to walk away but he grabbed my hand and pulled me back. "Can I get your number?" he said with a large smile.
I felt my heart skip a few beats at the sight of his white grin. "717- 6480" I replied before I headed to the car.
As I was putting on my seat belt I looked over to see Adam standing at the window. I turned on the car and rolled it down.
"Do you mind if we carpool?" he said, flashing me his million dollar smile.
"Not at all."
The entire ride was filled with Adam talking about the forests, the waves and the good food. His favorite dishes were made from spam. Funny, I loved spam the possibilities are endless. By the time we pulled up outside my house I knew several things about him. He liked the outdoors, he loved the color orange, he is an only child. He surfed, he played volleyball and was going to the college for acquatic biology.
So far he was perfect and I knew that if we got to know one another we could become close. We agreed to meet up the next day at his house after his classes were over and then we went our seperate ways. I headed to the guest house after I dropped off the keys to my mother and went inside.
Funny the lights were still off but Jakes boots were outside. When I closed the door I could have sworn I heard something. Who was here? I slowly walked through the house and stopped outside my bedroom door. The sound was coming from my bedroom. Now that I heard it more better the sound reminded me of...
I pushed the door opened and saw Jake and another girl in my bed. In my bed. I walked forward and grabbed the girl by the hair and threw her to the floor.
"What the hell are you doing in my bed you stupid little b***h!" I growled.
The girl shuffled around on the floor before she grabbed her dress and put it on before leaving quickly. Jake was leaning on his elbow, an angry expression on his face.
"What the hell!" He snapped as he rose to his feet. Jake quickly pulled some boxers on before he moved to tower above me. He cornered me and then slammed his hand against the wall inches from my head. "What is your problem?" he snarled.
I knocked his arm away and then moved to put some space between us. "That is my bed Jacob." I replied. "You were SCREWING another girl in my bed!"
"This is my house too Bella remember that." he replied.
I was beside myself with rage, I wanted to beat him up. We were a month away from being married and here he was having s*x with another girl.
"Why would you do this to me?"
Jake rolled his eyes at me. "It's not like we are together or anything." he said snidely.
I took two steps forward. "Its more then that Jacob, we are having a baby together. Might I add we are getting married in a few weeks time."
Jake began laughing and I smelled the booze on his breath. Oh great he had been drinking again.
"Atleast tell me you were smart and used protection with that poor girl." I said ignoring his ignorance.
"You seriously need to get laid you miserable little girl."
I had enough of this, I wasn't going to do this with him. I wanted him gone and out of my life, I wanted him to go back to his home in La Push and leave me alone. I'd rather be a single mother then be stuck with his stupid self.
"Go home Jake, seriously why are you even here?"
"I honestly couldn't tell you" He said before walking over to the dresser where their was a large red wine bottle.
I charged at him and knocked the bottle from his hand causing it to crash to the floor. In the next second a switch in him flipped and he bagan striking me. I felt several blows to my body before I collapsed to the floor. The last thing I saw of Jake was him disappearing out the window.
I laid there sore, aching, bleeding. I was 40 yards from my mother and Phil and who knew how long it would take them to get to me. I could call them if my phone hadn't been broken. I just hoped I had no internal bleeding, I hoped that my child was okay. I wrapped my arms around my abdomen that now held a slight bump and laid there on the floor.
I was unaware of the time but then I heard a knock somewhere. Was it at the window or the door. Maybe it was my imagination.
"Bella?" I heard a voice call to me. It took me a few seconds but I quickly recognized the voice, it was Adams. I heard footsteps in the hall. "Bella, are you here?" he asked me.
There was a bit of quietness before I heard the footsteps fading away. Adam was my only chance at seeking medical help so I needed to get his attention.
I kicked out my foot at the window, a bit too hard, and caused it to shatter. Then I began knocking on the hard wood floor.
"Help!" I shouted as best as I could. It came out in a garbled mess from the blood pooled in my mouth. "Help... Adam!" I replied as I continued hitting the floor. Every movement sent pain and agony through my body.
"Bella is that you?" I heard Adam say as his footsteps came back. I heard his footsteps at the bedroom door and then I heard him gasp as he came to my side. "Bella, what happened?" He said quickly. "God there is so much blood"
Adam began talking quickly to himself debating what to do. Apparently his truck was just outside but he wanted to tell my parents. Alert the parents or drive me to the hospital. Finally he made up his mind and carefully lifted me into his arms. I couldn't help the blood curtling scream that slipped from my mouth. I tried my best not to scream because screaming only brought more pain to my already broken body.
When we made it to the truck he laid me in the back seat and then got in the front before we sped off. Several times we hit bumps that jolted me and caused more pain. Each and every time he apologized. I hoped to god that I made it through this, that my child made it through this. I wasn't going to give up.
The minutes that we drove felt like hours to me in my broken state. When we came to a stop I was left to myself for a few seconds before I was being pulled from the back seat of the truck by medical personell.
"Please" I begged. "Save my baby."
I didn't know the extent of my injuries. I didn't care how bad I was hurting as long as my baby was safe. My baby, that was all I cared about.
