The rest of the day went without arguments between Jake and I but that was only because he was out doing whatever he did when he wasn't at the house. I spent alot of time by myself trying to come up with a conversation starter that would help me get my mother into the idea of moving to Hawaii. She loved the sun and Hawaii had that. She loved the water and the scenery, Hawaii had that too.
I was in the kitchen making a sandwich when the front door opened and closed. I thought for a second Jake had returned until I saw my mother.
"Hey mom." I said as she came into the kitchen.
I wrapped my arms around her in a hug and then went back to making my sandwich.
"Your boss called me today" my mother began.
Maybe I didn't have to think of a way to start the conversation about the promotion I just had to work it into the conversation.
"What about?" I asked as I finished my sandwich and headed to the table to sit down.
My mother sat down across from me. Before I could pick up my sandwich my mother took my hand into hers. She kissed my hand. "As a mother you have to make sacrafices for your child, that you will learn. These days it is really hard to find a job like the one they have offered you and I want to do whatever it takes for you to keep it."
"So my boss told you about the promotion?" I asked.
She nodded her head and smiled. "I told him I'd talk to you about it and I'd have you call him back." she said as she pushed her cell phone towards me. "Phil and I have already discussed it and we think this is a good oppourtunity. We will only stay with you until you turn 18 next year, unless Phil gets into something then-"
"Mom, that's way too much for you to give up. I can always find another job."
My mother pulled the phone back and dialed a number before she put it on speaker phone and placed it in the middle of the table.
"John Riler." A mans voice spoke.
My mother stared at me waiting to speak.
"Hello, Mr. Riler this is Bella Swan and I am calling back to let you know I am accepting the job."
"Ah Bella this is wonderful. I know you will make a wonderful addition to the team. I will have my assistant come by and get everything moving along."
The rest of the phone call was just getting my address and a good time to stop by. In the next hour we had our visitor and we were sitting around the table, Phil as well.
"So I've taken a walk around the property and I think it is wonderful, it will sell quickly on the market, especially with the beach just yards away. Our company owns 2 beach front properties and one property a bit inland that we think would be a suitable match."
He took out a few pictures and placed them in front of the us. "This one right here has all the same features. Guest house, yards from the beach, wrap around deck." He began.
My mother pulled a picture towards her and looked at it before she showed it to Phil. "I love this one." She said quickly. "Tell us about this one." she told the woman.
I saw her flip through a binder before she pulled some papers out and handed them around to each one of us. "This 4 bedroom, 3 bath, beach house is located in the tranquil Indian Beach subdivision. The 2,300 sq. ft. floor plan allows for large gatherings but affords privacy when needed. It has a wide covered porch across the front, an open air deck on the back, a screened-in porch on the side. The home has large windows with views to the water from every direction, high ceilings, beautiful architectural details and a gas fireplace. 40 yards from the main house is the guest house, it sits 10 yards from the beach and has 2 bedrooms, a bathroom, living room, full kitchen, and seperate dining area." she finished.
This home was perfect for both my mother and stepdad. The guest house was far enough away to give us our own privacy but was still close enough in case I needed my mother for something. Images of me and my son or daughter playing in the waves and building sand castles on the beach filled my mind.
"It's perfect" I whispered. I looked up at my mother. "Can we get it mom?"
"We like this one" my mother said pointing to the beautiful home we all three fell in love with.
The woman pulled out a few papers and my mother and Phil filled them out.
"Before you sign along the dot please know that this home will be sold on the market." She said. Once my mother and Phil signed the woman continued. "The moves will be by tomorrow and everything will be expedited to a one day delivery. Tomorrow you will be flying out and the next day you start work." she said before she rose to her feet. "Your schedule will be placed in your home upon arrival." The woman opened up an envelope that was with the information about the house and then handed my mother a set of keys. After saying good bye she left.
"Are you sure about this mom?" I asked
She moved around the table and wrapped her arms around me. "I'm sure about you. You still have several years ahead of you, make the best out of it." she replied.
My mother and I spent the next hour talking about babies and her pregnancy with me. After that conversation we got into her marriage and divorce. It was sad how the way of Forks broke them apart. When my mother started talking about details for my and Jakes wedding I decided it was time to head back to the guest house. It was almost time for dinner and for practice it was the wife who normally made sure dinner was ready. I was a good cook so it wasn't a problem.
A plate of fish and fries sat on the table waiting for Jake to return. I sat at the table, plate in front of me, waiting for him to return. I wanted to be polite and share dinner with him but he was no where to be seen. After the sun went down I reheated my food and sat down to eat it. When I was finished I grabbed some tin foil to wrap up his plate and then put it in the fridge. Where was Jake at?
It was well past 9 pm when Jake walked in. The moment he closed the door I stood up, arms crossed.
"Did you have a nice day?" I asked him sarcastically.
Jake stumbled past me, tripping over his feet a few times before he made it to the kitchen where he began shuffling through the fridge. He plucked the plate from the fridge and stuck it in the microwave before he set the clock to 4 minutes. Almost immeadiately it began sparking before it set on fire.
I jumped to my feet and removed the plate before I tossed it in the sink and turned the water on. I closed the microwave door and turned to look at him.
"You have been drinking." I accused.
Jake looked at me and laughed. "So what is it to you?" he replied.
"You are 16, where would you even get beer?"
"For your information it was liquor not beer and if you look the part you can get into parties anywhere. The women, wow. The ladies here I swear they were born in bikinis." he chuckled.
I brought my hand across his face and smacked him. Jake stared at me for a few seconds before he grabbed me and pushed me up against the wall.
"Let go of me Jacob." I growled.
He shook his head. "In the next month or two we are going to be husband and wife so just remember that. I'm the man of the house so you will not question me about what I do and when I do it. If I want to go out and get some local tail I will and if you don't like it, well just keep it to yourself because I'm not going to listen to it." Jake released me and I quickly headed into the bedroom.
"You are an ass hole." I shouted to him before slamming my bedroom door and locking it.
I laid in the bed thinking about my future with him. Did I really want to live with him if he was going to be drinking. I wasn't going to lie, he scared me when he had pushed me up against the wall and held me firmly. Was this just a one time thing or was this going to be a new past time. I had to remember whatever I decided would be to benefit my child. My child.
