Chap.6*Nobody Cares*

1122 Words
After everybody took Irene's side, we were on our feet to the residential areas for everyone to find their families. "Kai!" I ran after him on the road and matched pace with him and Irene, they keep leaving me behind and walking ahead of me. "Mr. And Mrs. Pascal’s left to the safe zone with my mom," I mumbled and a sigh of relief followed through him. Ricky and Caz were walking behind us with Hila alone in the middle of us and them. "I'm so worried for my brother," I heard Irene's murmur from Kai's left side. I knew I shouldn't be focusing on all this for now but I was highly concerned about her closeness with Kai. The way they looked at each other was no surprise that there was something going on between them. "It's okay to be worried as long as you don't lose hope," Kai responded to her, making his tone as soft as he could. "I'm so happy that you are with me." She whispered, probably preventing her sweet talk from me. "Irene! I'll make sure you are safe; your family remains safe." His entire attention was at Irene. They were still in their blue and white uniforms but the guys were wearing their jock jackets. "It's so cold," Irene mumbled, I did notice when I first met them in that classroom that she wasn't wearing her sweater. "Here, take this." Kai didn't waste a single minute to take off his jacket and wrap it around her. The same jacket he had told me to never touch as it was his jock pride. I was slightly offended so I slowed down a bit and soon they had walked ahead of me and I was left behind with Hila. "I'll die," she had her head bowed down and her arms wrapped around her body. "What?" I inquired, watching her way to make sure she was okay. "I'll be the first one to die." she lifted her face and I easily spotted streams of tears down her cheeks. "No! Why would you think that? We are all here with you, Hila." I gently wrapped my arm around her and she rested her head on my shoulder. I knew she was feeling alone. All of us had someone who would prioritize us over ourselves, but she had no one. "Wow! What is going on over here," Ricky, being a douche he was, commented from behind us? Hila swiftly raised her face from my shoulder and pulled herself away from me. I had to turn around to glare at Ricky, who was smirking in pride. Caz had stayed silent this entire time; he didn't pass any unnecessary comments like he used to do before. We were now in Caz's neighborhood, most of them used to live here. It was only Kai and me, who lived in an entirely different neighborhood. "That's my house." Caz lifted his face and spotted his house from afar. We all halted to stare at him and then at the house and from the looks of how the front door was left open, we knew it wasn't going to be easy for us to find his family. He ran ahead of us and the moment he had reached the entrance, his steps ceased. "There’s a note on the main door." He took the note down and began to read it aloud. *We are leaving for the safe zone. Try to get to the safe zone quickly before the whole time gets infected. Tell Rickey that his family is also leaving with us so don't waste your time on finding us, we are safe.* "They are safe," Caz and Ricky shared a glance and quickly ran to hug each other. Thankfully, they were able to celebrate, but their happiness had brought only a fainted smile onto Hila and Irene's lips. "That's my house," Irene yelled, pointing in the faraway direction. Everybody gave her a nod and began to sprint towards her house. Her house was in a bit different condition than her other houses, the door seemed to be locked. "Leo!" she banged the door while Kai peeked through the windows in agitation. Everybody else was doing too much while I had my eyes on Kai, everywhere he went, I followed him to make sure he remains safe. "We should break this door," Caz suggested while Irene bobbed her head in affirmation. Kai and Caz began to kick the door and in a matter of few minutes, they took it down and we were able to get inside her house. Everything looked squeaky clean and well in order. It didn't even look like her house was surrounded by chaos. "Leo?" she ran upstairs with everybody following her. Once she opened the room the door to her brother's room, she found out what had exactly happened. "Irene!" He was hiding in the closet and jumped out when he saw his sister. "Oh my God! You are okay?" she filled him in her embrace and swiftly scanned his face and arms. "I'm fine. I saw the zombies so I knew I had to keep silent and not make a noise." it wasn't the first time that I was meeting this kid, he was one mischievous kid. "Thank goodness, he is okay." Kai took a lead to leave an impression on Irene. Leo also looked happy to meet everyone except for me, I didn't adore that kid for one single moment. "Guys!" suddenly Hila's voice fell onto my eardrums. Everybody looked her way when she stepped backward and entered the room. "They are coming!" she screamed and suddenly a crowd full of zombies started to rush on us in that room. "Shut the Door," Rickey yelled and both the boys began to use anything they could use to push the zombies out. The screams from everybody's mouth had begun to give me a headache. While everyone was screaming and trying to help, my nose started bleeding, making me kneel down and cover my ears. They were able to lock the door and leave the zombies outside but the door seemed too weak to hold back the zombies from coming in again. "The window, towards the window guys." Irene knew the layout of her house better than us and her master plan was to push us all out of the window. "Hey, you okay?" a soft pair of arms wrapped around me and when I raised my face, I saw Hila gently rubbing my arm to calm me down. I looked around in search of Kai and found him helping Irene and her brother out of the window. Did he not even notice me on the floor?
