Chapter 2 part 4

She had forgotten to throw it away, along with the things Josh had gifted her. “Hey big man, did you miss me today, do you know you look and smell like your father?” She jokingly taunted as she played with the toy. She stood up from her bed, hopped into the bathroom, took a shower and proceeded to continue her evening skincare routine. After she was done, she played with her phone a bit. She took some drinks and snacks from the fridge and played with them for a while. She watched a movie. It was going to be a very long night. As she laid to watch the movie she heard her phone ring. “Who could it be?” She recognized this number. It was her nightmare. How did he get this number? So many things ran through her head. Should she pick and should she not? She picked. There was silence. Much silence. Many things went through Nina’s mind. Her heart beat out very fast. “Why won’t he talk?” She thought. She remembered his threats, his face. How he threatened that if she tried to run he would track her. Could this be it? He was tracking her. Would he send hitmen? People to kill her? If he was going to kill her, then he could go ahead and do it anyway. She didn’t care. Life was very exhausting, and she didn’t mind if she was six feet under. Depression wanted to get the worst out of her. She was tired. All her life she had been provided for. But now this was her against the world. She was against a cruel world, trying to get grounding. There was no difference between her and the baby. She sat and wondered what a life without Josh cutting through her mind every minute would look like. She laid on her bed, bored. She couldn't even get into the movie. Anxiety would not allow her. She thought and thought hard. She started counting the ceiling. She thought about Sweden and her parents. Then she stood up and walked to her wardrobe. If she was going to make a good impression on the people she would meet, then she had to dress well. Nina was always well put together. She almost never had bad hair, makeup or outfit day. She was careful enough to not let the people she would work with know she had touched money in some kind of way. She wanted to look elegant, poised and still, very humble. “ This is hard, " she thought as she ran her fingers through her clothing. This was the first time she realized that all she had were expensive clothes. She knew that if she dressed really extravagantly there people would single her out as Josh's ex-wife. She touched her hair. She had work to do too, and she had to be there as early as seven in the morning. What time would she have to be awake in order to meet up with these preparations? Sigh.. The struggle never ends, or should she postpone whatever plans she had ? She was nervous. Was this going to turn out well, or would it flop like others? How long was she going to keep flopping? Was she a failure really? This was an opportunity presented in front of her, and she was running. Her pulse was higher than before. Gosh! What is she doing? And what is she thinking? She sighed. She walked back to the phone. She did not realize the call was still on. s**t! She hoped he didn't hear all the muttering she was doing to herself. With fire in her eyes and anger in her voice, she picked up the call and yelled into her phone. " What is it again, Josh? What the hell do you want? Why do you keep calling me? Trying to torment me. Won't you move on? You've done enough! Are you happy? " She screamed at him angrily. The person at the other end of the line did not bother saying anything. " I will f*****g kill you with my bare hands if you keep trying to taunt me. What the hell! Have you not done enough, you evil person? Let me be! She sighed, " You evil piece of s**t! Son of the devil ” She ended the call as she was shaking. After she was done ending the call, she messaged the number again to let them know she had canceled the interview and would not come to work. She asked to give me some time. Surprisingly, they replied and asked her to choose another date within the week. Confused, she picked up her phone and called Sweden to come spend some time with her. “ I need your sis, I'm breaking down. You have to come with me. Sweden packed her things and promised to book the first flight there. She had to be there for her sister. Sweden arrived in New York as early as nine in the morning. She was excited about being there. She had come to New York a few weeks again, but she was at Josh's house with Nina. She booked a taxi from the airport and went straight to the address Nina had texted her. This time around it was different. They were not in a big and nice fancy house like before, they were in a small cramped apartment. Nina lived upstairs. Sweden took the elevator and landed at her doorstep. She rang the doorbell and almost immediately a blonde lady opened the door. There was her sister. She looked exhausted. Her eyes were swollen and sunken and one side of her face looked red. Gosh! Could this be her sister? She lost most of the weight she had on. She rushed and grabbed her quickly in her arms and gave her a big warm hug. She hugged her so tightly for a long time and gave her a peck on her head. How sad. She removed herself from her after sometime and carried her luggage inside the house. It did not look too bad. It was a three-bedroom flat that still looked kind of empty. The parlor was exposed to the kitchen as an open plan and the rooms were a bit shabby. She looked around, a lot of work still had to be done. Nina showed her to the room she slept in, and she carefully arranged her luggage, hopped into the shower to take a bath and then changed the clothes she wore to the airport. "Sis, I'm hungry," Sweden complained. “ I'll order you some food, rice and beans maybe?" Nina ordered a lot of food to last them throughout the day and into the next morning. After Sweden was done eating, she cleared the dishes and made the place neat. She then turned around to look at her sister. " Sis, can we talk? You know we have a lot to discuss or do you not want to share? " Nina sat there looking sunken. Unable to say a word, I just nodded. Sweden looked at her curiously. She wanted to know everything that happened. How Nina was bold enough to finally stand up to Josh and leave the house. She had lived with them for some time and had seen everything that happened firsthand. Nina tried to speak but her voice cracked. She just broke into tears and Sweden stood up to give her more hugs. " It's okay sis, you don't have to talk if you don't want to. It's okay, I totally understand. " Sweden said as she confronted Nina. " When you're a bit stronger, we can talk, I love you, and I'll always be there for you. I want you to know that. " They spent the day doing nothing. Nina held Sweden's hands really tight and later hugged her as they both took long naps. They woke up in the evening and talked to their mother. They binge-watched Netflix, ate popcorn, danced, sang and did a lot of other activities. Nina was happy, she finally had some comfort and did not have to take the pain alone. She shared a strong bond with her sister and no one was going to take it away from them. Sweden was her life. She hugged her sister tightly and slept off her back. Little did she know that the future had bad plans concerning her and Sweden's relationship.
