(Astrid POV)
I groaned as I woke up in pain.
My whole body was aching and I wanted to take a leave and stay in my bed.
But sadly I couldn’t. It’s the ending semester. Only a few days more until the study holidays start. I still have my thesis to complete.
I dragged my body to the shower. I washed my dry and bloodied wound hissing at the pain.
After that, I bandaged the bruise before putting on my clothes. I put on a hoodie to cover my wounds and walked out.
The classes went on as usual and now I am sitting in the library taking down the notes for my thesis.
I avoided my friends today and they didn’t really mind much since I do that often.
But the one person who constantly tried to catch me was Dave. He would appear in front of my class but I would manage to escape. I didn’t even have lunch in the cafeteria knowing he would be there.
And now I am freaking hungry.
I groaned as I looked up but only to widen them.
Speak of the devil and he shall arrive.
Dave walked into the library and his eyes met mine.
I cursed as I took my bag and stood up. I have to avoid him at all costs. I can’t have him involving in my messed up life.
“Stop avoiding me, Ash,” he said as he stopped in front of me. I flinched as I looked at his bruised face. He was also wearing a hoodie but unlike me, he didn’t put the hood to hide the damaged face.
“I won’t let you go without a proper talk,” he said as I sighed.
“Alright what do you need to know?” I asked as I sat down. He followed me and sat opposite before looking at my face.
His eyes for a moment lingered on the cheek which was bluish-black from the punch.
He was just as worse as me. He had bruised lips and a black eye along with a very badly bruised chin.
“Astrid, I don’t want to pressure you asking all the questions but I need to know one thing,” he said as I sighed and nodded.
“How the hell did you know to fight like that?” he asked as I looked at him confused.
“Huh?” I asked looking at him weirdly.
All these things happened and he wants to ask how I fought?
“I know how to fight. I have trained” I said as he nodded.
“It's just, you took me for a hell of a shock when you moved so swiftly. I mean you are so timid and always quiet, I thought…” he said as I sighed.
“Haven’t you heard of don’t judge a book by its cover?” I said as he looked at me.
“I also wanted to know who that man in the video is but I won’t ask now. I know how frustrated you are on the topic” he said as I smiled at him.
“Thank you,” I said before looking at the time.
“I should go. My shift will start soon” I said as I stood up.
“I will come with you,” he said as I sighed and nodded.
We made our way out the college, both of us in awkward silence.
“Hey what is that?” Dave suddenly said as he pointed to the crowd.
I shrugged and continued to walk but Dave had other plans. He pulled me into the crowd.
“Come on… Could be something exciting” he said as he squeezed through the crowd dragging me along.
On reaching a clearing my eyes widened as I saw three expensive black cars parked on the side. Bodyguards were standing around in a suit and I knew who was sitting inside the car.
“We need to go now!” I whisper shouted at Dave and somehow he got the hint that it may be something bad.
I knew he would come for me. I even prepared for it but I guess in reality I was not ready. I am always weak when it comes to him.
A part of me wants to stay and see him once again. I wanted to run to his arms like old times. But the other part of me wanted to run in the opposite direction, far away from him.
I knew what he was and I had accepted it. I wanted to be with him irrespective of how dangerous it was.
But now…
My mind went to the void faced man on the video.
He was different from my old Elliot. This man’s eyes held nothing but coldness. He gave out a different vibe.
He changed. I feel like I don’t even know him.
We started to walk back when the door opened.
“You really think you can walk away like that?” a very familiar voice rose as I froze in place.
