(Astrid POV) “You still wear caps?” I asked as he put on a baseball cap as soon as we step out. “Yes. I have to stay undercover” he said as I rolled my eyes. He should be lucky it is sunny so people will think the cap is for the shade. But no matter what we say those caps look ridiculous with those designer suits. He used to wear caps when we were dating too. Sometimes it is accompanied by face masks. “Why do you always wear that?” I asked once, when we were in the wild to take photos. “Father doesn’t allow me to go out unless I wear something to cover my face. He says it will be very dangerous if I go recognized” he said as I nodded. “Hey you coming princess?” his voice rose to snap me back to reality. I nodded and quickly got into the car. Halfway through my phone bell rang. “s**t” I cursed when I saw it was my boss. Elliot raised his eyebrow at me as I rolled my eyes before answering the call. “Good evening Mr. Miller,” I said trying to sound cheerful. “Where are you!? This is a weekend and peak of the time” He shouted from the other side as I flinched. “Sorry, Mr. Miller. I had an emergency” I said as I heard a huff. “I will give you an hour to get back to work. If you don’t come then consider taking a permanent leave” he said before the call cut. I groaned as I look at Elliot. I want to talk to him… Ask something… then say goodbye forever. But now. “Can we talk now?” I asked as he raised his eyebrow at me. “I have my job. I need to reach there in an hour. We can talk on our way” I said as he made a ticking sound. “I need more than an hour,” he said looking at me. “I have to return to work,” I said as he sighed. “Then I will pick you up after work.” He said as I shook my head. “I have plans,” I said avoiding his eyes. “Where?” he asked as he squints his eyes. “None of your concern,” I said as he ticked his tongue again. “Sir, please drive to Mackey’s Kitchen. It’s downtown” I said as the driver nodded. The rest of the car ride was silent and when I reached my work, I got out immediately. “I will pick you after your shift, princess,” he said as I turned and raised my eyebrow at him. “I told you I have other plans,” I said turning back to the restaurant. “You know what. Meet me tomorrow after my college. I have no shift until 6. But please don’t come in a way to grab peoples’ attention.” I said before walking to the restaurant. After getting a series of warnings from my boss, I started to wait for the tables. Friday was always a busy day in the café. It means extra work so the boss never allows us to take leave on that day. I massaged my aching shoulders as I looked around. I just finished cleaning the floor. “Done?” Kate, my co-worker said as I nodded. “Yes. I got to go” I said as I looked at the clock and frown. It's 1 hour past my shift time. But then again I was late today. I wonder what Elliot wants to talk about. I knew I should talk to him. I want to know what happened for him to fake his death. That and also the fact that I know he won’t rest until he had that talk with me. I changed into my casual dress and made my way out. The street was crowded as it was only past 8. “Ash!” a voice called from behind making my eyes widen. “Dave?” I said as he smiled. “I’m glad I saw you. I thought you left” he said as I looked at him confused. “What are you doing here?” I asked as he smiled. “Have dinner with me. You owe me remember?” he said as I sighed. “Come on… Please. Just one. I promise I’m not that boring” he said as I smiled and nodded. “Ok” Dinner with him was good. I actually enjoyed his company. We even went for an ice-cream. When he dropped me home, he asked if we can hang out tomorrow since I had no shift. But I had to refuse since I promised I would meet Elliot. I fell on to my bed and groaned. I have no college tomorrow but I have to complete my thesis. Hopefully, I will finish it in these two days. My phone light with a message as I took it. ‘Good night, Princess’ it said and I immediately knew who it was. ‘How did you find my number?’ I replied. ‘Can you guess?’ it says as I roll my eyes. ‘Private investigation?’ I asked. ‘Yes,’ the reply came immediately with the wink face. ‘Not shocking’ I replied. ‘I have to sleep. I have college. Bye.’ I texted before he could finish the text he was typing. ‘Alright then. I will see you tomorrow. Good night and dream of me, princess’ he said as I rolled my eyes. ‘Ya. Night’ I replied blankly before putting my phone on the table. I can’t forgive him. I don’t want anything to do with him.
