Zaire Levi / Jozine Vesaurius Three days, the day has finally come. "Let's go, Elise." I walk towards the carriage waiting for us when a familiar voice called my name. Again. "Where are you going again? Have you forgotten that you have to attend the dinner party at the House of Tefiln?" Felicia called me. I turn to her, "I'll be back. I'll be sure to attend." Geez, she really can't afford to miss a single party that will help her grow her influence. Such a cunning woman, I wonder why Clarence didn't inherit even that attitude of hers. She watches me warily but eventually sighs and left. I look at Elise, again, she looks worried. I got used to it, whenever Clarence or Felicia is around she always looks shook a life. It's both amusing and bothersome at the same time, their voice alone can make her jumpy, and even if I ask her what it is about them that scares her she wouldn't tell me. "Elise." I called her, she flinches. I heaved a deep sigh, "you know unless you tell me what's wrong I won't be able to help you." She shakes her head at me smiled, it irritates me how fake it was that's why I couldn't help my scoff. "Tsk. Stop smiling at me, your fake smile irritates me." I tell her without looking at her. "..I'm sorry my lady.." her voice shakes. Damn it. I heaved a deep sigh and lift her chin to look at me, the carriage shaking a little. Elise's eyes are teary. "I don't mean anything bad about it. All I wanted to say is don't pretend to be happy or fine in front of me especially if I know there is something wrong. You can pretend all you want as long as I don't have an idea but if you know that I have then don't even try smiling at me. I won't mind if you keep frowning." I tell her looking directly in her eyes. "My lady..." she hiccups trying not to burst into tears. This girl really. She would smile when Jozine smiles and laugh, she would cry for Jozine whenever Jozine can't cry for herself. Elise is a precious friend, like her. I stilled. I sat back comfortably. "I won't ask you anymore, I trust that you will tell me when the time is right. You think of me too much as your lady, remember that I'm your friend too," Yeah, we're friends and as my friend, I have to protect her. Something that I failed to do before. The carriage is filled with silence on our way. Elise is totally back to her old self, the happy but paranoid Elise. A dinner party at the Tefiln Household later, geez, I wish I could pass but sadly, I can't. I'm certain the rats will tell me something. Something good. I smirk. Upon arriving at the border of Bayport, we get off the carriage. The town looks as busy as before, maybe even busier. I wonder if it's because of the dinner party hosted by the Tefiln who runs this area? Hm, oh well. "We'll be back. You can wait here or eat, you're free to do what you want." I tell the coachman and left. The rats and I are supposed to meet at an abandoned house on the western part of the town. It's just ahead of this market so carriage would not be necessary. I wonder if I should visit the tailor shop? Maybe not, the tailor but feel pressured if I do that. Good thing I wore the most simple dress I have and not a gown that nobles in this country usually wore. Seriously, wearing a gown with corset regularly and most importantly attending a party with lots of delicious food only to eat a small portion like your a chicken instead of a human, how tragic can these noble ladies' life be? Diet, dance lessons, piano lessons, studies of different etiquettes and more. I feel sorry for them personally. It's not like I can change that since it's basically the culture and their way of life here but some things are just so unfair especially for the ladies. Tch. "Stay here, Elise." I tell her when we reach the abandoned house. It's a crappy one, one blow from a strong wind will surely make this house collapse. "Master lalala!" "Master!!! Laaaa!" I look down and there they are, the two rats. And they're not alone, rats are filling this shabby house, their sounds of squeaks and talking that only I can understand filled the empty house with noise. I chuckles. Ever since I learned I can talk to them, I find rats adorable. Their small voices and their snouts, even the way they crawl. Pff! "Hey, you two have company huh." I said crouching. I look at all of them and waved at those rats looking at me. I pick up Amda and Tion. "Good job doing your first mission, now the second one, how is it?" "Squeak! We have the news lalala you want Master!" Said Amda. I nodded my nead petting him. "Good job you two. Tell me about it." Amda and Tion started telling me all the information they were able to dig and sniff by spying around. Yep, my own spy squad made of rats. Listening to their stories my smirk cannot fall of. Freaking hell, this is more complicated than I thought and it's more fun! I patted both their small head. "Wonderful job you two. For that, you will get a reward along with all this rats." The two cheered, more like squeak and those who understood followed suit. I look at Amda, "you know where the house of Vesaurius is don't you?" He nodded his head. "You will come with me and you," I turn to Tion tapping his little snout, "I have a new mission for you. You lead your own squad of rats while Amda will do the same." The two nodded her head. I laugh. "You don't mind being separated with each other." "Amda is ugly lala so it's okay Master." PFFT! I seriously laugh out loud at that, especially with how Amda's expression hearing that from Tion. "Lalala who wants to be with you who is obsessed with food lalala!" And that, their bickering started. I sigh. "Okay okay stop it, you two. Listen to your mission, Tion." And he gladly do so. After our little meeting, I called Elise and we distributed the food, fruits and cheese that we bought. I also bought nuts for all of them. We went out while Amda and Tion is both on my shoulders, Elise on the other hand is distanced away from me in fear. Yeah sis, she's afraid of rats. "Where... where should we go now, my lady?" I look around. I have been planning of this after I was able to create my mana base. I have the basic knowledge of magic but I need something more. "When will the class start again, Elise?" "Well, that would be six months from now, my lady." Six months. It's a magic school and students are required to stay for an entire year inside the academy. Outsiders fully forbidden. Meaning, I'll be losing some of my freedom there. Fuck. I need to train my magic. I did tried learning, heh, I was able to manifest fire magic first yesterday. It was weird how it felt so easy and natural but I did not think too much about it. I must be gifted hoho! More gifted than Jozine! Sorry sis! Maybe because of that weird book last night that appeared out of nowhere too? It appeared the night before I tried manifesting my magic. It seems to have all the information that I need in order to practice magic so I got engrossed reading it I slept so late, like I'm not used to, but anyways, I'm planning to try cultivating my fire magic to into high level novice. It wouldn't be easy to do it so I need a magic energy quantifier to determine the level of my magic. So since I was able to awaken fire magic, I suppose I'm not that weak in terms of magic huh. Fire magic is considered the most destructive and strong in elemental magic. "Lalala~ Master what should I do?" Asks Amda. "Well I need to buy a magic quantifying orb." I tell them. That thing is seriously expensive. "But the magic council handles the selling of those orb, my lady. If you want to have your magic level checked and confirmed you will have to go to the Konseho." Elise explained. I nod my head at that. Indeed. But there are downsides of having your magic level measured and identified. It will be made public for the entire kingdom to know especially if your magic level is strong. Geez you will become instant celebrity if that happens. "Amda, I have a sudden mission for you." I tell him in which he happily nodded his head at. He leaned closer to me through my shoulder and I whispered him about it. He made a squeaking sound and jumped off me obviously more than happy to obliged. "Tion, you go back and start your new mission, don't forget to clean the mess in that house." He too nodded and jumped off. Elise and I are leisurely walking towards the border of Bayport enjoying the weather. This doesn't seem all bad, maybe I should not return to the house first? Yep yep, good idea. "Elise let's go!" I took her wrist and grab her to the eatery I spotted while walking. I have my priorities. Seeing that chili sign along with the name of the eatery, I thought I heard voices of angel singing. It's been so long since I last eaten something spicy! Do they have lobsters here? How about spicy noodles? I almost drool just thinking about it! "You peasant! How dare you!" I felt a strong force on our side and out of reflex, I pulled Elise back as she is walking ahead of me and I was right, there was a flying sword from our side! The f**k! I stomped towards the voices of people and where the sword probably came from. It was on the corner. There's a man wearing an obviously fancy suit and behind him is a carriage carrying a symbol of his family. A noble. "A peasant like you dares to glare at me?!" He is ready to strike when I grab his hand. He might be the same age as me or younger, and I don't give a flying f**k. "Oi," He looks at me confused then it turned into annoyance, he has the guts to be annoyed huh. "Is this yours?" I ask showing him the sword. "No," he answered trying to pull his arm away from me but failed. "Who threw this then?" "Me." He sounded proud. "You threw it but it's not yours?" He smirks. "A cheap sword like that is not fit to be held by me. The owner of that should be thankful." I look at him and let go of his hand. Damn it, damn it to the moon and back. I've never met someone as despicable and arrogant like this boy. "Oi boy, you're a noble aren't you?" I ask glaring. He flinched but nodded anyway. "... my lady we should—" I gestured for Elise to be quiet. "Step back Elise," I ordered in which she hesitantly obliged. The spoiled noble's company interfered. Must be his guard. "I'm sorry, kindly show respect to our young master." He slightly bowed, I can see the arrogance and malice in his face when he did that. "Hah!" I scoff, "did you know me and my friend here almost got killed bu that sword your dumb young master mindlessly threw?!" I yelled. The guard flinch but glared at me. "You disrespect—" "Shut up. I'm not even talking to you so why are you interfering? Can't your young master speak for himself?" I raised my brows and cross my arms. People are starting to gather around us. I hated the attention but I can't just let this pass especially after being almost killed by that sword. If I was a little late Elise would have... damn it. "You—" "It's alright. I never ask for your help so step aside." The pompous young master pushed his guard to the side. Ghad, this young man lack manners. "How dare a commoner like you talk to me?" I laugh at his arrogance. I took a step closer smiling at him. He's a handsome young man but by the looks of him, his nasty attitude is the total opposite of his handsome face. "How dare a dumb brat like you even breathe the same air as me." I retorted. He audibly gasps and ready to fired back when I leaned my fav closer to his. "Bullying a person, taking other's possession and attacking us for no reason. Tell me, young master of whatever household you're from, those offense, isn't it punishable?" His eyes widened. "You dare threaten me?" He asks with his gritted teeth, I can see his hands shaking though. I pull away and smiled. "I dare not threaten a young master of a noble family.." he smirks, "is that what you want me to say?" His smirk disappeared. "Well, I'm feeling generous so I will let this pass. If young master is willing to pay the owner of this cheap sword." I smirk. "You...!" "Me?" I lean to whisper at him, "are you aware that you don't possess any magic yet you act so high and mighty in this place where intermediate hunters are?" I asks him. He stiffened. "How did you know?" I walks away and went to Elise. "Let's go Elise." I grab her hand. We started to walk when I felt a threatening magic energy approaching. I sigh, turned around and block the magic enhanced daggers using my fire magic, I wrap it within a fire ball and threw it back at whoever threw it. It was none other than the guard of the noble. He coughs gripping his stomach, bruised. "I hate being attacked behind my back the most." I heaved a deep sigh and smiled at him, his young master frozen in place and is not even helping him. "Know your place. Not because you're a noble you can act so arrogantly everywhere and not because you're a little strong you can attack anyone." I tsked, "dumb assholes." With that, I walk away from the crime scene, eyes following me and Elise on my side. When I'm in a safe distance I leaned against the nearest wall. "...my lady?" "Damn it..." HOW COULD I GOT CARRIED AWAY BY THAT?! There were eyes looking and ears listening! f**k f**k f**k! I lost my composure and it wasn't a good idea. Shit. I heaved a deep sigh. Happy thoughts, happy thoughts, happy thoughts... I CAN'T!!!! Damn. No more happy thoughts. "...young miss," I abruptly turn behind me and it was the young man, no not the freaking brat but the one being bullied. His black long hair covering his face, his clothes too is in a complete mess. I can't even describe it as clothes anymore, it's a rag. "Yes?" f**k my voice croak. "Erm, yes? You need something dude— erm, young man?" "I... I would like to thank young miss for saving me." "Don't be!" I quickly cut him off. "I didn't actually saved you, I was doing it because we were almost, you know, killed by his thrown sword. I don't really like bastards like those so I intervened as much as I don't want to but still, it happened and I got carried away I couldn't just let go so you know, don't thank me." What the hell. "But," "Shush, honestly man, don't thank me. I'm merely irritated by guys like him so it was no biggie. Here," I handed him a pouch of fifty silver and ten golds. "Find yourself something to eat and change into a thing you can actually call clothes. Maybe a temporary shelter too." I don't know what his expression is because of his hair but his hands are shaking. I placed the pouch on his shaking hands and enclosed it. "Well then, we're going first. Bye, dude!" I waved at him and left hurriedly because people are starting to notice us. When we reach the carriage, the coachman has been waiting patiently. "Have you eaten, Mr. coachman?" I ask climbing on the carriage. He slightly flinches looking surprised. "I... I did, my lady." I nodded my head. "Cool," When we entered, Amda is already waiting. "Hello, Amda. How was it? Got me some good news?" The cute rat nodded his head enthusiastically. Aw man, this will be a lot of fun. ~ The thing about having an advantage regarding something or over someone, there is nothing more fulfilling than that. Have you ever watch a conversation and hear one of the people talking and acting like he knows everything but in reality, he's too far from knowing. He is rather kept in the dark but he just wouldn't listen to others but listens to himself only. Because he knows it all. I know you can relate, we all love watching those type of people make a total fool of themselves. Admittedly, I find it amusing. So funny that right now I’m having a hard time in this so-called dinner party of House Tefiln. I kept my straight face while listening to their conversation, on my right side is Felicia while on my left is Clarence. “We rarely have complains here in. Well, I don’t want to brag but the vagrant in Bayport has been handled by my son quite well. They’re all settled.” Said the Mistress of Tefiln. I almost burst out laughing good thing I’m able to hold it. I wonder how long though. I’m bored already, the drama has yet to start. “I see. Your son bas always been a remarkable young man, fit to become a leader like his father.” Pff. That was Felicia, such a butt licker. I bet she already knows that state of Bayport. Mrs. Tefiln chuckles elegantly. I did not join their conversation and focused on eating. “I feel that compared to your daughter Jozine, the achievements of my son is close to nothing.” I smirk while slicing the steak. “As expected of the lady prodigy.” She complimented. I half-heartedly smiled. I doubt she noticed that, they’re too busy licking each other’s butt. Ghad. “Aiya, I heard rumors going around that Jozine failed her breakthrough?” Asks Mrs. Tefiln. She sounded concern but I know it’s fake. My goodness she dare not hide the twinkle in her eyes when she said that. “Well,” I glance at Felicia. I wanted to heaved a deep sigh. Does she not know this could be possible? Naive. “Jozine keeps us about it. I believe that it’s not true, she is after all my daughter. I know it couldn’t be.” I mentally scoff. She just dropped me. Cleaning her hands eh? It was she who told me that I lost my magic base, my gosh. So what if I’m your daughter, which I’m not, she’s not even a mage so why should Jozine being a mage be the reason is you? My ghad Felicia! I’ll give you the mother of the year award soon Felicia. You never failed to achieve the little expectation I have of you as a mother. Seriously. I smiled at Mrs. Tefiln. “The matter regarding my magic, I’d like to keep to myself. You know, surprise?” Mrs. Tefiln stared at me and nods her head unknown what to say. I continued eating when a noise from outside started. I can hear various footsteps and voices of servants from the Tefilns. The door of the dinning hall opened, knights and mages entered along with a beautiful lady. “House of Tefiln, you are proven guilty of plunder of the funds given for the renovation and development of Bayport.” The lady announced. “What...?” Mrs. Tefiln exclaimed. “That is not possible!” “You are given the right to remain silent, however, you will be taken into custody by the Ministry of Justice. Take her away.” Mrs. Tefiln tried to resist but it was futile. The drama finally ended. Right now, inside the silent carriage, Felicia and Clarence’s eyes can almost make a hole on my face. “I can feel your eyes, is there something wrong?” Stop staring at me you two. Can’t say that tho. “Well, good thing we were able to safely evade that conversation regarding your breakthrough. That ruckus was surprising, to think the Tefiln will get caught.” Said Felicia. “Yeah. That’s why one should think thoroughly of their actions especially deeds like those. Am I right, mother?” She did not answer me, instead, she talks to Clarence. I smirked. I hit a sore spot. Good thing we’re going home, I have more important things to do than to play perfect.
