Rain POV
Ray’s bar was filled with vampires and werewolves as I entered. Quickly, I made my way to the bar, wanting to get this task over with.
“Hey sweetie,” Ray’s voice cut through the chatter as she approached me.
“Boss said you asked for me.” I muttered.
“Yes, I did. Come in the back,” she motioned, her hand guiding me towards a door. We entered a small, cramped room, and she turned to face me, a mischievous smirk playing on her lips.
“So, boss gave you one month to bring the precious Dire wolf to him,” she said, her voice dripping with amusement. “But as I witnessed the last time you were here, Wolfie is already attached to you.”
I nodded, my heart pounding in my chest. “Yes, but I doubt he will follow me. And as you are well aware, the boss wants him to follow me willingly instead of a fight. Not sure why, but that’s the request.”
Ray reached over to a small desk and handed me a photo of Caleb kissing me earlier. Anger simmered within me, but I held it back, waiting for her to reveal her intentions.
“I’m pretty sure he will follow you, honey,” she laughed, her tone taunting.
“Now, get to what you want. You clearly want something if you summoned me. And the boss would have already had it out with me over the photo if you told him.” I snapped.
“Simple, sweetie,” she began. “From now on, you work for me on the side while you are here. And if you do as I ask, the boss does not get the photo. I’ll continue to report that you are doing your job fine. He is just a hard egg to crack.’
Frustration boiled within me, but I knew I had no choice. “What is it you want me to do?” I asked, gritting my teeth.
“Anything and everything I ask, starting now, honey,” she said with a sly grin. “And I’ll keep this little fling you have with your target under wraps.”
“Fine,” I reluctantly agreed, clenching my fist in frustration.
“Good girl,” she praised. “Tonight, I have a very important client, one that never seems impressed like the vampire. You are to show him a good time and get him to spend a lot. Anything he asks you to do, you do.”
“As you wish,” I responded.
Ray led me out of the room and pointed towards the client entering the bar.
“Draven, this is Rain,” Ray introduced us. “She will be your escort for the evening.”
“Don’t need one,” Draven hissed, his voice resonating with authority. I walked over to him, dropping my shield slightly.
“You want to sit with me?” I whispered in his ear, my voice low and seductive. “And you are going to buy me an expensive drink and keep them coming.”
“On second thought, give me a round of your best concoction,” Draven said, his tone softened. “And keep them coming.” He wrapped his arm around me, leading me to a table.
Once seated, Draven motioned for me to move closer to him, his dark eyes piercing into mine. “You look so tasty,” he said in a low, seductive tone. As Ray approached our table, a bottle filled to the brim with a strange, glowing liquor and two shot glasses in hand, she smirked at me. “I’m sure she would be more than glad to let you taste her,” Ray said with a sly smile.
The Vampire pulled me closer, his cold touch sending shivers throughout my body. “You do smell very tempting, little one,” he murmured, bringing my wrist to his nose. Meanwhile, Ray poured two shots into our glasses, her mischievous grin never fading. Desperate for a distraction, I quickly grabbed my glass with my free hand and downed it, craving anything to take my mind off the impending bite.
Draven’s fingers brushed the strands of my hair away from the nape of my neck. As he leaned closer, his warm cold breath caressed my skin. With a firm bite, he drank from me.
“Mmm,” I moaned as the pleasurable sensation washed over me. Once he finished, he licked the remnants of my blood from his lips and then took his shot, before filling both of our glasses again. “You taste delectable,” he whispered, his hand trailing along my side. Nausea rose in my throat, but I forced myself to take another shot, trying to drown out my discomfort.
The music filled the bar, enticing patrons to the dance floor, while two more vampires joined us in the booth. “Looks like we could use another bottle,” I suggested to Draven, my fingers caressing his arm. He raised his free hand, signaling Ray over. She smiled at me, clearly pleased with my performance, as he ordered another bottle of the potent concoction.
Curiosity getting the better of me, I asked Ray, “What’s even in this drink?” She chuckled, her voice filled with amusement. “You don’t want to know, honey. Let’s just say Wolfie won’t be so happy you’re drinking drugged alcohol.” With that, she walked away, leaving me to embrace the vibrant lights and the pulsating music that seemed to fuse with my senses.
As the night progressed, our table managed to polish off five bottles, with Draven keeping me close to him at all times. Around 1am, he signaled Ray over again. “It’s a done deal. You have earned my business,” he stated, before abruptly leaving the bar. “Good work,” Ray commended me, a hint of a promise in her voice. “Keep it up, and maybe I’ll even get you an extension.”
Feeling the effects of the alcohol and drugs, I slurred my words as I asked, “Am I done for the night?” The substances had taken a toll on me, blurring my perception of reality. “Yes, but remember, you come whenever I call,” Ray ordered as I stumbled out of the bar, my mind hazy with the night’s intoxication.
The cool night air gently brushed against my face, offering a refreshing sensation as I stumbled my way back to the dorms. Climbing up to the roof, I was stunned to find Caleb waiting for me, sound asleep with two pillows and an oversized blanket. The bond between mates seemed to have made him incredibly attached to me, despite the fact that I was still a stranger. I turned to leave, not wanting to disturb or deal with him. But just as I turned, I heard him murmur my name, slowly sitting up.
“I’m later than I thought. I’m sorry for making you wait. We should head to our rooms and sleep,” I said, my words stumbling out.
“You’re drunk,” he growled, standing up and walking towards me. He gave me an unreadable expression as he brushed my hair away from my neck. “You let a f*****g vampire feed from you,” he snapped, his anger radiating off of him. He continued by sniffing me. “And you’re on drugs,” he snarled.
“Maybe,” I mumbled, stumbling a bit. He caught onto me, pulling me close against his body. “You’re warm,” I mumbled into him as he effortlessly lifted me into his arms and kicked open the roof access door, carrying me down the stairs.
“Put me down,” I groaned, slamming my hand against him. But it was a feeble attempt as the world spun around me. Soon, I felt my body being placed on a mattress as I tried to push myself up.
“Wait, why are you undressing?” I stammered as I watched him pull off his shirt.
He ignored me and walked over to his dresser, grabbing a large t-shirt. He then walked back to the bed. “Lift your arms,” he ordered, and I complied without thinking. He pushed his hands on my dress, working it up my body. “Wait, no,” I snapped.
“Your dress reeks of the filth you were around,” he muttered.
“Fine, turn,” I said, grabbing the t-shirt from his hand and standing up. Luckily, he complied as I pulled my dress off and put on his t-shirt, which thankfully covered me enough. “I’m dressed,” I slurred as he turned around again and kicked my dress to the side. He then opened a small fridge by his bed and handed me water.
“Drink this and then get some sleep,” he ordered.
“You want me to sleep here?” I stammered.
“Yes, until the drugs wear off. I’m not risking someone taking advantage of you,” he spoke.
“You want me to share a bed with you,” I said, rising to my feet. But before I could make my escape, he gently pressed his hand against my shoulder, effortlessly guiding me back down onto the mattress.
“I’ll sleep on the floor,” he offered, as he pulled the soft comforter and draped it over me.
“Drink and sleep,” he instructed.
I raised the water bottle to my lips, feeling the cool liquid cascade down my throat, momentarily refreshing me. I sank back against his pillow, but the drugs coursing through my veins prevented sleep from claiming me.
Thankfully, I was accustomed to their effects and managed to remain somewhat functional. Restlessly, I tossed and turned in his bed while he remained silent on the floor. After what seemed like an eternity, I finally sat up, silently slipping out of the bed, assuming he was asleep. However, he startled me by grabbing hold of my leg, halting my escape.
“Don’t try leaving,” he sighed, his grip firm yet gentle. Admitting defeat, I returned to the edge of his bed. Caleb stood up and took a seat beside me.
“Can you at least tell me why you’re drugged and why a vampire fed from you?” he asked, his voice now calm and composed.
“It’s a job,” I confessed. “The bar owner isn’t my boss, but she knows about us. She has a photo of us together. To keep her from telling my boss and getting me sent back, I have to comply with all her demands. Tonight, it was being an escort for some vampires.” I spoke truthfully, hoping that this revelation would diminish his growing affection for me.
“Escort?” he repeated, his fist clenching involuntarily. “He didn’t...” Caleb’s words trailed off, unfinished, a mix of concern and anger etched across his face.
“I did not sleep with him,” I asserted. “That’s something I’ll never do, even if it means being sent home.” As my words hung in the air, his demeanor softened slightly.
“Is your mom really a Phoenix?” I asked him.
“Yes, she was blessed with the soul of a Phoenix when she was born,” he replied.
“Tales of her and your fathers are often told where I am from,” I admitted
“If you can’t tell me where you’re from, can you at least describe the place?” Caleb inquired.
“It’s always dark, a place that many would consider worse than hell,” I whispered.
“Yet you seem content living there,” he observed.
“Yes, it’s the only place that accepted me,” I responded, a touch of sadness in my voice.
“What about your real family?” he asked, his hand reaching out to hold mine.
“They rejected me and left me for dead,” I revealed, my gaze falling to the floor.
“How could anyone reject you?” Caleb questioned, his voice filled with disbelief.
“Because I’m not pure. It’s considered a crime in the fae realm,” I explained.
As he pulled me closer, his lips brushed against mine, a gentle yet insatiable hunger evident in his kiss. His grip tightened around me, his body pressing against mine.
The haze of drugs and alcohol had faded, and I could sense that he noticed the change. I ran my hand lightly across his body, and his eyes grew more intense, captivating me like a dangerous magnet. In that moment, I desired him intensely.
“I don’t know how much longer I can resist you, Rain,” he growled in my ear, his voice filled with desire.
He pushed me down onto the bed, his body hovering over mine. His hand trailed beneath the t-shirt he had given me. Slowly, he pushed the fabric up, exposing my bare skin.
“No bra,” he growled again, his lips trailing a path of fire along my exposed flesh. As he reached my breast, I felt his fangs sink into my skin, and my body arched against him in pleasure. His bite, unlike anything I had experienced before, brought me to the brink of ecstasy.
