Caleb POV She was driving me crazy, her presence overwhelming my senses. I lost complete control as my teeth sank into her breast, the taste of her blood mingling with the heat of the moment. I should have asked for her permission, but my desire pushed me forward. Rain, instead of telling me to stop, responded to my touch, her body moving against mine. Releasing my teeth, I looked into her eyes, searching for any sign she was upset. “I can’t do this, Caleb,” she whispered beneath me, her hand resting on my chest. “Why can’t you?” I asked, my lips brushing against her body as she writhed with need. “I can sense that you want this just as much as I do. I can smell your arousal,” I growled in her ear, as she shivered against me. Her body pressed against mine once more, her breath hitching as I nipped at her skin. Trailing my hand down her body, her soft moans filled the air. “I can’t feel this way about you,” she whispered as I slid her panties down. “Yes, you can. Stop denying it,” I said in a low, commanding tone, my fingers brushing against her most sensitive spot. “I won’t allow anyone else to have you. I’m the only one who can touch you like this,” I growled possessively. I then traced my lips down her body, savoring the electrifying pleasure of tasting her. Her soft moans filled the air, fueling my desire. "I want you, Rain," I whispered, my voice filled with longing. "But I won't take you unless you allow me. I'll never do anything you don't want." "I want you" she moaned. Her admission of wanting me just as badly only intensified my hunger. As my mouth reached her thigh, her quivering anticipation grew. And when I finally reached her sensitive area, a cry of pure pleasure escaped her lips. "I want this," she moaned, giving me the permission I craved. With my tongue, I teased her, building the anticipation before slowly ascending back up her body. “This, us, it’s dangerous,” she moaned, her body quivering with anticipation. I reached over to my nightstand and opened the drawer, retrieving a condom. Remaining over her body, I removed my pants, her eyes fixated on me. She remained silent, her desire evident. “I’m going to make you forget that bar scum. The only thing I want imprinted on your body is my touch. You’re mine, and I’m yours,” I declared, sliding the condom onto myself. I leaned in closer, my manhood teasingly grazing her entrance, eliciting a gasp that mingled with the faint scent of arousal in the room. With one careful thrust, I entered her, feeling the tightness and the resistance. A small whimper escaped her lips, a delicate sound that mingled with our bodies coming together. I held myself still, allowing her to adjust, whispering against her ear, “Take a deep breath, Rain. The pain will subside.” As I began to move, I could feel her gradually relaxing, her body responding to the slow, deliberate thrusts that matched her comfort level. And then, as her body yielded to mine, I pushed the remaining distance, filling her completely. The sensation of her tightness enveloping me was overwhelming, a sweet ache that mingled with the heady scent of desire in the room. Her moans grew louder, matching the rhythm of my thrusts. With each movement, I felt her surrendering to the pleasure, her walls gripping me tightly. Her innocence, now shattered, was replaced with a hunger she couldn’t deny. The pain she had felt melted away, replaced by the intoxicating pleasure of our union. Her nails dug into my back, leaving trails of electrifying desire. I kissed her hungrily, our lips locked in a desperate need for each other. The room was filled with the sound of our bodies colliding. “Tell me, tell me I’m the only one that can ever have you,” I growled, my voice low and husky. The anticipation of release coursed through my veins, causing my body to tremble. She gasped, her breath hitching as I pulled her close, our bodies fitting together perfectly. I felt her reach her climax, and then with a deep breath, I released my seed into the safety of the condom. As I slowly withdrew, a wave of satisfaction washed over me, mingling with the intimate connection we shared. It was against my principles to mate without marking, but in this moment, I knew she wouldn’t accept my mark. It might even put her in danger. Still, I couldn’t resist the urge to claim her completely. I needed my scent all over her. Once our bodies had calmed, I left for the bathroom to clean up, grabbing a warm washcloth for her. But when I returned, she was already getting dressed, slipping my t-shirt back on. “We must act as if this never happened.” She ordered. “You’re leaving?” I asked, my hand reaching out to touch her. “I have to. It’s already early morning, and I need to check in with my boss. If I want to stay here, I have to play it cool. I’ll walk myself to classes from now on. We can hang out, but we can’t be seen together all the time. It’ll raise suspicion.” She explained. Overwhelmed by the thought of losing her, I couldn’t help but push her against the wall, desperate for reassurance. “Tell me you don’t regret what just happened. Tell me that behind closed doors, you’re mine.” Her lips brushed against mine as she replied, “I should regret this, and I should stop this now to protect you. But I can’t deny that I want you just as badly, Caleb. It scares me. Nothing has ever felt so right.” “I won’t let you go. I won’t allow this boss of yours or anyone else to have you. I’ll fight for you. I’ll follow your request for now, as long as you understand how deeply I feel for you.” She nodded, slipping out of my embrace before opening the door. Just before she left, I spoke one last time. “I’ll have a phone and new clothing delivered later today.” “Thank you, Caleb,” she said softly. As she left, my wolf, Mace, growled in my head, urging me not to let her go. “We don’t have a choice,” I responded. “I’ll have her followed, send someone to investigate that bar, and get to the bottom of the danger she’s really in.” I would uncover the truth, no matter what. I finished getting dressed fast and then connected with my father through our mind-link, relaying the details to him. I informed him that I would be excused from classes for the day. Although I couldn’t reveal much about Rain at the moment, I assured my father that I knew her true nature and would protect her secret. He respected my decision, but as I recounted some of Rain’s recent activities, his anger mirrored my own. “Once we conclude our business here, your mother and I will come to the city and assist you,” he offered. I understood it would take some time, but the knowledge that a demon was involved with Rain made me grateful for any help I could get. After finishing the mind-link, I grabbed my phone and dialed Colson’s number. “I’m taking the day off. Meet me by the shoe factory in fifteen,” I said to Colson over the phone. As I hung up, I walked past Rain’s empty room. I wished I could whisk her away from this city, but the demon mark on her would always lead the demon to her, no matter where we went. Resigned, I made my way to the old shoe factory, where I waited for Colson. “You summoned me,” he chuckled as he approached. “I need your help,” I began. “That girl Rain, from class yesterday, she’s in trouble. I think it’s connected to the danger Amaris predicted. I need you to follow her tonight. She’s been working for a lady named Ray who owns a bar.” Colson’s voice grew serious. “If she’s involved with Ray, it’s real bad. She deals with the worst of the worst.” “My mother warned me about that,” I replied. “That’s why I need you to find out how Rain fits into all this and what they’re making her do.” Colson probed further. “Does this have anything to do with the fact that you can’t take your eyes off her?” I hesitated for a moment before confessing. “She’s my mate, but no one can know.” “Understood,” Colson said, understanding the weight of my secret. “And to top it off, she’s stronger than your mother.” “You could tell from your fight?” I asked. “I didn’t hold back with her,” he explained. “But she held back with me. If I had to guess, she only used about 20 percent of her true strength. So watch out, kid.” “I’m not a kid.” I sighed. “To me, you are and always will be,” Colson chuckled. “I’ll tail the girl. I’ve been to Ray’s bar multiple times, so she won’t suspect a thing. But you, be safe and be prepared. If I find out your mate is just as evil, you’ll need all the strength you can muster.” “I appreciate it,” I said to Colson."I’m going to go question a few of the individuals who reported some of the unsolved disappearances in the city. Call me with updates on Rain." “Take care of yourself, Caleb,” Colson replied. “This city, even with your parents fixing it up, still has some very dark spots hidden underneath our noses.” I nodded my head in agreement as I walked away. I had compiled a list of recent missing creature files, and as I glanced down at it, my mind began to race. None of the reports were of humans; instead, they consisted of criminals and innocents alike, all possessing special abilities. Were they being targeted for their uniqueness? Determined to find answers, I made my way towards a small pub. A server had claimed to witness someone taking another server she worked with, but the police dismissed her story as far-fetched. It seemed as though the authorities either didn’t care or were being bribed to turn a blind eye to these disappearances. As I walked towards the pub, my thoughts drifted to Rain. The thought of pretending she meant nothing to me in public was challenging. I wondered how well I would be able to control my emotions when other men approached her. Did she even realize how attractive she was? I had noticed the way other unmated males and even vampires in our classes looked at her. She had to understand that some of them desired her, like Devin. And then there was her supposed work, which involved getting close to random vampires. The mere thought of them touching her, feeding from her, ignited a fire within me. It angered me not only because she was my mate but also because I knew it made her uncomfortable, even if she brushed it off as just a job. I clenched my fist, feeling the tension build within me. But as I neared the pub, I managed to regain my composure. Stepping inside, I approached the hostess, who greeted me with a friendly smile. I asked for the server, and she informed me that she was out back on her break. Expressing my gratitude, I walked around the building. Finally, I spotted the lone server standing out back. As I approached, she jumped, clearly startled by my presence. It was evident that she was only human. “Elena,” I said. “Y-yes, that’s me,” she stammered, her eyes wide with fear. “My name is Caleb,” I said softly. “I’m not here to cause you any trouble. I just came to ask you a few questions about the girl you reported missing.” She looked at me warily. “I told the cops everything,” she replied. “Why ask more when no one believes me?” She asked. “I am trying to get to the bottom of the disappearances, no matter how far-fetched your story sounded to the cops. I would like to hear it.” I responded. She hesitated for a moment, then motioned for me to follow her to a secluded spot out back. As we settled into a couple of worn chairs, she began to speak. “Amy was a server here, and my friend. We were closing up a few months ago when we heard a loud bang coming from the front. Amy told me to hide in the back since I’m just human, and she went out front. I heard a lot of commotion and then Amy’s piercing scream. I was paralyzed with fear, so I remained hidden. After a while, a man entered the kitchen, carrying Amy’s unconscious body. He was followed by a woman. The man asked the woman what he should do with my friend, and she replied, ‘Take her to the collector in the Undercity.’ The man left, and as the woman turned to leave, her eyes locked with mine. They were completely black. Then, in an instant, she vanished into thin air, leaving only a trail of acrid smoke behind.” I thanked her for sharing her account. As she rose from her chair, a glimmer of hope sparkled in her eyes. “Are you going to find Amy?” she asked. “I will try my best,” I promised. As she walked away, I couldn’t help but wonder what the Undercity was and who the collector was and, most of all, if Rain was linked to all of this.
