Chapter 5

2045 Words
Callen's POV Ash walked the perimeter of the boarders with a group from the academy. This was good training for them. We had extra patrols out tonight and would until we could figure things out with this damn pack. I was still fuming that my father had kept this from me. I would yell at him later. This is something that I should have been made aware of from the beginning. "Oh, calm down, he was just trying to help you," Ash linked me. "You are supposed to be on my side for everything." "I am, but I also understand what he was trying to do," he said, and I cut our link, tired of hearing him right now. I peeked over my shoulder and everyone was still behind me and then we continued forward. I had one more lap to do all the way around. It would take some time, but then we would change to walking around the pack house and that group would head in for the night. An hour and a half later, and we were jogging on our way to the pack house, when links started coming in. We were being hit and from multiple locations it sounded like. I turned to everyone behind me, and they had stopped moving as they were getting the same link I was. "North side, fifty wolves," someone linked. "Southeast side, seventy-five wolves or so, send help," this one said, and we took off in that direction. A few seconds later the alarm bells rang. "I want the blue team to head north, the red and yellow team go to the southeast, purple you stay around the pack house and anyone that is capable get to the west and make sure nothing is coming in on that side," I linked to everyone and then shut them out as I ran towards the southeast side. So far, this side had a report that it had the most wolves. "Guys, you know what to do. Keep them alive if you can, but don't get yourselves killed." I linked to everyone behind me as we ran into the fighting. We were outnumbered here, but it wouldn't be long until the other two teams showed up. These guys weren't holding back, I ran head first towards one that was on top of one of my guys. I hit them, and they went flying, and I moved on to the next one, trying to keep them at bay until more help showed up. Something in the tree line caught my attention. Two girls, walking along in the shadows and, just as the breeze kicked up a scent so strong, hit me, paralyzing me. "MATE," yelled Ash, in my head and then, with no control over my body, Ash sat down on his hind legs and let out the loudest howl of my entire life and then something overtook me and I felt like my skin was going to explode, and then it was like the first time I shifted. I screamed out as my bones broke and rearranged. This time it didn't take nearly as long as the first time and when I opened my eyes and looked down, my paws were black. My second wolf had shown up, and he was pissed. He let out another howl and this one was even louder and meaner sounding than the first. He took off running looking for our mate and by the time we got to the tree line she was long gone. We followed her scent to the boarder where it kept going, but we had to turn back and go help our pack. My wolf had yet to speak a word to me, but he looked up to the moon and this time when he howled, it was so sad and broken sounding. Once he was finally done, he turned back and headed straight back to the fight or what was left of it. "I want them all taken to the dungeon," I linked out to everyone. I wasn't sure what was happening, but right now I felt an overwhelming anger from my new wolf. He wanted to rip someone to shreds and I had a feeling that the person he wanted to do that to was our mate, not that I had a clue who it was. I stood back and watched as we took control of everyone, and they started to be escorted down to the dungeon. We would have to put multiple people in the cells, but I didn't care. "What the hell is going on?" Asher asked as he came up to me. I was still in wolf form. I knew I was still in the form of my new wolf who had yet to speak a word to me. I shifted back, taking control back over. Kaden had now shown up, and they were both staring at me. "What?" I snapped at them. "You're eyes." "What about them?" "Come with me," Asher said, pulling on my arm and taking me into the pack house and straight to the bathroom, where I looked in the mirror and I could see why they were confused. I now had one bright blue eye and another that was bright green. "It's me," my new wolf finally said. "What is your name?" I linked him. "It's Smoke, and he doesn't like talking." Ash said. "Shut the hell up. Our mate, she left us. We need to find her and punish her." he linked. "Whoa, hold on. We aren't punishing anyone. We don't know her and we don't know what is going on. We need to get the facts first. Smoke you need to calm down," I linked them. I could feel how angry he was and that is why I felt that way out there. This was such a weird feeling. I knew I would have two wolves and my mom always said it was a blessing and a curse at the same. I can feel that right now. I felt like I was being torn in two by their different feelings. Ash was hurt that our mate ran from us and Smoke. Well, he was furious. Finally, looking up at my two beta's who still looked as confused as ever, "my other wolf showed up." I said and both of their jaws dropped. "What brought him out?" Asher asked. "My mate," I said, and I think their jaws hit the ground this time. "Your mate was in on the attack?" Kaden asked. "I don't know. She was still in human form, along the tree line. We ran after her and she got through the border, and we had to get back to the fight. I wasn't going to let you guys fight on your own." I told them and then walked out of the bathroom and ran upstairs to my room and grabbed some clothes, putting them on and heading back downstairs. As soon as I opened the front door, I collided with my father. "Where have you been?" he snapped. "Taking care of s**t, that could have been taken care of had you told me everything," I said and walked past him. He grabbed my shoulder and turned to me to face him, "What?" I growled at him. Smoke's anger was making me angry. It was like I couldn't help it. "Your second wolf showed up today, didn't it?" "Yes." I snapped at him and went to walk away, but he tightened his grip on my shoulder, not letting me go. I watched as his eyes glazed over, and I knew he was linking with my mother. I wasn't in the mood to talk about s**t last night. I basically had an entire pack being put in the dungeon, a wolf who was so angry that it was making me angry, and I needed to speak with Declan. I needed him to find me a picture of the girls. I jerked away from his grip and went straight to the school. I knew that Declan was there going over footage. I passed several people who did a double take and I knew it was because of my eyes. That was going to take some getting used to. I opened the school doors and went straight to the office that had all of our computers where we headed up security. I made quick work of getting to the room and when I opened the door all the lights were out but there was a bright glow coming from the back of the room. Declan was sitting in the chair clicking around. "What have you found?" I grumbled, scaring him. He was focused on his job. I appreciated his dedication to it. "Seems they found a weak spot in the boarder. That is where they came through, and then they spread out from there and went undetected until they attacked." "While I was on the southeast side, I saw two girls in the tree line, I need a clear picture of them now," I growled and shook my head. I really needed to get Smoke calmed down. "I will see what I can find and let you know." I walked out of the room without another word and dropped the block I had. "Smoke, can you calm your anger?" I linked him. "No, she f*****g left us. She wouldn't even talk to us, plus she is part of the pack that attacked us. There is no forgiving that. You only attack a pack to kill them." "Chill, dude, we don't know her story. She wasn't actually attacking us, maybe she isn't part of them." Ash said, and they were giving me a headache already. I put the block up so I didn't have to hear them fight. I will figure that out later. I went back outside to find that they had everyone moved to the dungeon and were cleaning up. There were a few of their pack members that were dead but none of us were even hurt. It was a success, and I was happy about that, but I didn't like killing others. "Meet me at the dungeon," I linked Kaden and Asher and headed that way. I wanted to know who led that attack, who those girls were and what the hell do they want. It's been four years since they've attacked. I killed their leader that day, and they didn't seem to want to kill us, but wanted something. They were waiting at the door for me. Our guard opened the door, and we walked inside and went downstairs. This was an underground dungeon. It was built years ago, but it wasn't big enough to hold all the people we have now. I walked to the first cell and looked inside, and I didn't know who was in charge here but I was about to find out. I closed my eyes and let Smoke come forward. I needed to have the roughness that he seemed to possess. When I opened my eyes, there was a green glow about the room and I knew it was coming from my eyes. "WHO IS IN CHARGE?" he commanded, and you could see everyone cowering back, including Kaden and Asher. "Me," a man quietly spoke from four doors down. I walked down to the cell and snapped my fingers wanting the keys. One of them dropped them into my hand and I unlocked the cell and the man stepped forward. i***t. He was too willing, but if he was in charge he should step up, I thought. A true Alpha will take the punishment for his pack. I grabbed the man in a crushing grip around his neck and dragged him out of the cell and walked to the room at the very front. This is the room we used for torture. I had no intentions of torturing him, but if he didn't give the information needed, I wasn't opposed to torture. I slammed his body down on the chair and walked around to face him. No need to strap him in. "Why are you here? Why did you attack?" I asked, and he just looked down at his lap before he started to stutter out his answer.
