Chapter 4

2012 Words
Skylars POV I slammed my laptop down. They knew that we had scouts out on the boarder. We were going to have to get better. We shouldn't have been caught like that. They were onto us. Now was the time to attack before they caught on too much. We had laid low after my father died. We had to. We wanted them to think that we had disappeared, but we hadn't, not even close. I strummed my fingers on my desk waiting for my people to get here. They were who I trusted the most. We didn't run like a normal pack around here. I would consult them and then hold a pack meeting, and we would take a vote on things. Everyone here was for different reasons. Some were still angry about the council being disbanded and the kingdom taking power and others had a vendetta against the kingdom for other reasons, or they were just rogues who needed a home, and we gave that to them, and they followed us. My door finally opened and Jasmine, her father Kevin, Braden, and Dan all walked in at the same time. I'm guessing Jasmine had them downstairs until they all got here and then brought them all up. "What's up kiddo?" Kevin asked. "I think they are onto us. The team we had going around the boarders, they didn't cover their tracks, and they were found. I think we need to move now. Like tonight." "Hold on, we aren't prepared. I think we need to watch them more," Dan said. "We've watched them all the time. We are ready for this. We know their weak points, and I've been thinking about this all day. We've talked about this day for a long time. We go in at the weak points where they don't have a camera, and then we hit from all directions. This is an all-hands on deck attack. Full force." "I agree," Braden said and everyone else nodded their and I could see Dan give in. He has been fighting this longer than I have been. "What is your plan when we take over?" "We kill off all the important people, disband the academy and start back over with the council. You two can lead it. I don't want to be on it. I just want revenge for the death of my father." "Is this the only reason you are doing this?" Kevin asked. "It's the only reason I need. I know how my father felt about the council and how it was handled, but I don't care about that, I just want to sink my teeth into the person who killed my father and rip out their throat slowly and watch the light drain from their eyes." "Good enough for me," Braden said and Jasmine nodded. I knew they would be on my side. "Get the troops together and have them meet us here at six. Tell them be prepared to leave from here," I said, and everyone left but Kevin. "Skylar, I'm worried about you." "Why?" I asked, leaning back in my chair and putting my feet up on the desk. "Because your father was so passionate about overthrowing the kingdom, and you just want them dead." "He wanted them dead," I snapped back at him. "No, he wanted them to step back down and give the power back over to where it belonged. They came in with some sad story that I didn't buy for a second and neither did he, but going in with that attitude is going to get you killed or captured. Be careful, or you are going to find yourself without a pack." he said, and got up and left my office. "He's wrong. You made a promise to avenge your father's death and that's what we need to do." Bri linked me. "I know, and I'm not going to listen to him. This is going to work. We have worked too hard for the last four years for this. It's going to work and after that I think it's time to leave. They can do whatever they want. Jasmine can come with us. We can start over somewhere new." "On a beach maybe?" "Aren't wolves supposed to like the forest and the cold?" "So sue me, I like the beach or at least I think I would. It looks so warm, and the sand looks soft. I could roll in it and then take a nap and then go for a swim and clean off." "You are ridiculous," I linked her and laughed. I busied myself back on my laptop finalizing the rest of the plans for tonight's attack. When I had an hour left until it was time for our meeting, I made my way to my bathroom and put my hair up in braids and put my clothes on that I had just for this. All black and my favorite boots. I stopped at the picture of my dad that I had on my dresser and picked it up. It was my fifteenth birthday. We were sitting outside at the table with a birthday cake in front of us. We were both so happy. Our faces were beaming with smiles. I missed him. I would never stop missing him. I walked to my backyard where everyone was starting to gather here. I stood on the patio that was set just a little higher than the yard. Jasmine was up there along with everyone else that I met with this afternoon. We stood up there as a united front. As everyone showed up, they pushed together at the front of the deck and I stepped forward. "It's time," I said, and they all started cheering. I held my hand up to get them to calm down. "We are going to move tonight. You all know your groups, follow your leaders, remember we have one goal, over throw them and take over, we're not there to kill them, or to get yourselves killed. If it turns that way, I want you to get out." I said, and I looked behind me and Kevin, who nodded. I stepped back and everyone cheered again. I felt like hypocrite. I was going in there with the intent of killing, but I told them not to. They didn't need to know that. I planned on leaving after this was over anyway, which made me feel even worse. I grabbed Jasmine's hand and pulled her inside the house and straight to my office and slammed the door shut. "What is going on?" she asked with a look of concern on her face. "We are doing this for very different reasons. I know we all have our own agenda for being a part of this pack, but for me, it's different. I want the blood of my father's killer on my hands and nothing more. I don't care about over throwing the kingdom, I don't want them to die because I want to kill someone, and the dumb part, I don't even know who it is. I think this is a bad idea. I'm changing my mind. I need to do this on my own." I rushed out. My chest tightened, and I dropped my hands down to my knees and tried to take deep breaths, but enough oxygen was getting in. "Calm down," Jasmine said as she took me over to the chair and had me sit down. "Don't go tonight. We will leave. You and I and we can figure this out together." "I can't just leave them. I'm supposed to lead them tonight. This is what my father wanted. I'm supposed to follow in his footsteps, he only ever wanted to see them taken down, and I can't even focus on that. I honestly don't care if they are taken down. Honestly, as far as leadership goes, I think they have done a good job. Packs are thriving under their control and I just want my father's killer dead." I said and looked up to her who was just smiling at me. "This is why I love you." "Why? Because I'm a damn basket case who can't give my father his dying wish? Make his dreams come true." "No, because you don't want that. Everything we have ever been taught doesn't matter to you. You do what you want, and you see things the way they are." "Wait, you don't think we should overthrow the kingdom?" "Goddess no. I agree that they have done a good job with leading the packs. They are fair and just. I'm here because of you. You are my best friend and I wouldn't leave without you. So let's leave and we can do our own thing." "What about your father?" "He will get over it. Honestly, I think that he is getting tired of this game. He just wants to enjoy the rest of his life. He wants to retire basically and travel. We've talked about it a few times." "We would be seen as traitors, and they would kill us if they found out," I said. "I'm not scared of a single person here. We can use this as a way in to the kingdom tonight. We will split off and go in search of the person that killed your father and after that we will find a new pack to take us in." "We should tell your father our plan. He deserves to know at least, and we need to find someone to take over our groups." I told her. This made me feel a little better. I didn't feel quite like a fraud anymore. Jasmine nodded to me and turned and left the room to get her father. "Bri, can we do this? Is this the right move?" I linked her. "I can't tell you that. I want your father's killer as much as you do, but leaving our pack," she didn't finish her sentence as the door opened and Jasmine and Kevin walked in. He looked at me and he knew. "You two aren't going with us are you?" he said. "Yes and no. I have my own agenda and I know it's not the same as everyone else's. I can't lead them in there and tell them to do the opposite of what I want." "I'm proud of you for making that decision. I'm not happy about it, but I am proud of you for it. I will take care of the pack. Don't worry about them, but I can tell you that you can't come back. They won't be forgiving about it," he said, but I already knew that. "Pack a bag and contact me later, and I will get it to you." he said, and then turned to his daughter and gave her a hug and whispered something to her that I couldn't hear. I saw the tears fall from her face. "Jasmine, stay. This is your home. I can't ask you to do this with me." "Like hell you are going alone. We are in this together," she said, as she still had her hands wrapped around her father. "Alright you two, go pack your bags and put them in your bedroom. I will see you again soon," he said, and let go of his daughter before he kissed her cheek and walked out of the room. "You don't have to do this." "I know but I want to. We're a team and don't forget that," she said, and walked out of the office also. I quickly followed her out and ran to my room and threw a bag together and dropped my knives in my boots. I wasn't sure if I would be shifting tonight or not, but I wanted to be prepared either way. I dropped my bag by my door and walked out to the living room where Jasmine was waiting for me. "Are you ready?" she asked. She had more confidence than I ever felt, but that was just her. She was confident about everything she did.
