CHAPTER THIRTEEN.
Kyle Smith is a beautiful and brilliant lawyer who cracks difficult cases and unravels the truth even if it's hidden. Kyle lost her parents when she was 8 years old, she was kidnapped by some men who demanded ransom when her parents went to deliver the money when they both lost their lives, kyle wa saved by a cop and was taken to her Grandma's house Mrs. Elizabeth Johnson, a very wealthy woman.
Kyle was sent abroad to complete her studies and join the family business. When Kyle returned to the country, she explained to Mrs. Elizabeth that she was more interested in becoming a lawyer than joining the family business. Mrs.Elizabeth understood where Kyle was coming from so she supported her choice.
Leonardo was Mrs. Elizabeth's most trusted man, he loved Mrs.Elizabeth like a mother and respected her so much that he did whatever she asked of him. Leonardo fell in love with kyle the first time he met her, It was love at first sight. He kept his love hidden because Kyle only took him as a friend and he didn't want to spoil their friendship.
After Kyle came back from studies abroad, Leonardo couldn't hold his feelings back anymore so he confessed his love to her, he thought she was going to reject him but he was stunned when she told him she loved him back.
After years of dating, Leonardo and Kyle got married and had a son which they named "Mateo".
Kyle and Leonardo were leaving happily until Kyle resumed her work as a lawyer. She began to work late, neglecting her duties as a wife and a mother. Leonardo kept on complaining to her but whenever he talked she promised to change, and then a new case arose making her repeat the same mistake.
The sun was down and it was time for Mateo to go to bed. Mateo asked his dad to read him a bedtime story. Leonardo agreed to his son's wish and together they went to his room. Leonardo had finished reading the book when he noticed Mateo was already asleep, he kissed Mateo's forehead before adjusting his blanket. He was about to leave the room when Kyle entered, apologizing.
"I am sorry Leonardo, the case took longer than expected." She explained entering Mateo's room to find him asleep.
"I don't understand you anymore Kyle, you are not the woman I married anymore. You don't care about me or our son, this is the time Mateo needs you the most but you are failing him." Leonardo let out looking away.
"Leonardo you are supposed to understand me the most, those people needed my help, should I just send them away when I can render them my assistance?" Kyle asked.
"Kyle, there is no excuse for being absent in your son's life, mama has told you countless times to join the family business, what is your reason for refusing her offer?" Leonardo said.
"How will I join the family business when I know nothing about the company? I am trying my best Leonardo, believe me." Kyle said moving towards where he stood.
"I understand you Kyle but does Mateo understand why his mum is always busy? You just have to make time for him because he needs you." Leonardo replied, facing her.
"I promise you that I will try my best to make time for our family." She said holding his hand.
"I hope you do." He sighed before leaving to go to bed.
The next morning Kyle woke up early and made breakfast for the family. Mateo's nanny brought him to the dining table after he was dressed for school.
Mateo was so happy to see his mother so he ran to hug her.
"Careful son, you wouldn't want to injure yourself," Kyle said, hugging him back.
"Good morning mummy." Mateo greeted Kyle by pecking Kyle's cheek.
"Good morning son, hope you had a good night's rest?" Kyle asked to serve him breakfast.
"Yes I did mummy, I have something to tell you," Mateo said while eating his breakfast.
"Go on son, I am all ears," Kyle answered but before Mateo could say a thing Leonardo entered the dining room making Kyle turn around.
"Good morning daddy." Mateo greeted Leonardo.
"Good morning love." Kyle greeted also.
"Good morning to both of you, hope you both slept well?" Leonardo answered, smiling at both of t, them.
"Yes, we did." Kyle and Mateo replied, making all three of them laugh. Kyle was about to ask Mateo what he wanted to tell her when her phone rang, making Leonardo's smile turn to a frown.
"I am sorry but I have to take this." She apologized before leaving.
"Hello Mr.David, I am in the middle of something important, is anything the matter?" She asked.
"I am sorry to bother you. you Mr. Smith but your attention is needed in the office. Please make sure to be here at 9 am sharp." Mr.David let out before hanging up.
Kyle didn't know what to say to Leonardo because she promised him she would create time for the family. She entered the dining room smiling as if nothing happened.
"So Mateo, what did you say you have to tell me again?" She asked, sitting close to him.
"Mummy, our school is organizing a presentation tomorrow and I am among the presenters. I will be dancing and daddy will be teaching me some moves." Mateo explained, smiling.
"Wow, I am so proud of you son, I promise to be there tomorrow." She replied, hugging Mateo. She turned and looked at Leonardo who gave her the look of "I hope you make it".
Leonardo told Mateo it was time to go and Mateo kissed his mum goodbye before leaving.
"See you, when I get back," Leonardo said before kissing Kyle goodbye and then left.
Leonardo drove Mateo to school before leaving for work. On his way to work, different things kept on running through his mind. He wanted to fix his marriage to the way it was but was Kyle ready to do the same?.
Kyle couldn't stop thinking of the look Leonardo gave her before leaving. She doesn't want to let her family down but was she ready to sacrifice her work for them?" She thought.
She cleared her mind from negative thoughts and quickly got dressed and left for work.
