Joel interrupted Piper"s questions, telling her he would call her back. As he hung up the phone, he looked down at the body by his feet. He had taken a quick look before he called Piper, but now he wanted to examine alongside the coroner what had happened. After they had introduced Joel to the medical examiner, he made sure to stay out of the man"s way so he could do his job. The examiner acknowledged Joel"s presence with a curt nod and then got down to work.
"Well, she"s been dead since early this morning. I"d say about 4 AM. The massive blunt trauma to the back of the head caused death. She didn"t fight, as there are no physical signs of a struggle. She probably went down with one single blow, never seeing her attackers, never knowing what happened."
