I watched Odessa skip off, grinning from ear to ear. I’d worried all afternoon that the incident in the gym had ruined her day. Well, incidents. I hadn’t meant to confess about my mother’s horrible death at the hands of my father, or my part in the tragedy that had nearly ended our pack. I also hadn’t meant to molest her on the floor in the middle of a sweaty gym matt. The relief I felt seeing her smiling, covered in colorful confetti, was overwhelming. She seemed to light up the entire room with her happiness, and I could tell the rest of the staff was feeling it, too. I’d forgotten all about the school party tonight.
