Diane showered as soon as she got to room, after a quick exchange of pleasantries with her roommates, she sat on her bed to eat her Chinese takeout while also reading in the process.
She had not finished her allocated study for the day before Nelly called her, so she picked up from where she stopped.
After reading all there was left to read, she checked her savings and her remaining spending for the month, seeing that she hadn’t gone above her budget, she sighed in relief.
She deliberated on working on her research thesis tonight but she didn’t want to be too tired out for tomorrow, besides she could always get to it since she had only her waitress job for tomorrow also.
With this thought she ditched the thesis thought and packed up to go to bed. She texted Aiden goodnight and also asked if he had gotten home. She knew he would most likely stay at his penthouse, since it was well furnished and it would save spending costs, thus she didn’t bother asking him where he was staying.
After she received a reply from Aiden that he was home already, Diane put off her phone and went to bed.
“Did you see Aiden again yesterday?” Nelly asked Diane as they sat in class waiting for the lecturer’s arrival. It was Diane’s second class for today, she had one in her post graduate course earlier in the morning “yes I saw him after I finished work, he had some things to do in the area and decided to pick me up after he was done” she explained “I see” Nelly said, as she nodded with a knowing smile to herself.
The lecturer came in cutting off their conversation as they both listened on in class, their day passing by from one lecture to the other. After her last class, Diane went to the library to work on her research thesis and then went to the dorm for a quick nap, changed into a simple top and jeans and headed to work.
On the way to work, she got a call from Aiden, “are you still in school?” his familiar voice said through the receiver, “No, I’m on my way to work. How is your day going?” she asked, she guessed he was still busy from his distracted voice “I planned to pick you from school and drop you at work, you left earlier today?” he said as he also pointed out the time difference between her departure time from yesterday and today.
“I wanted to go early so I could leave earlier, my classes today were not as lengthy as yesterday’s own.” She explained, as she adjusted her bag strap on her shoulders, the bus was getting to her stop soon. “See you later, bye” she said and hung up the call leaving the other party at the end of the call shaking his head at her impatience.
Seeing that he wasn’t going to make it to dropping her at work, Aiden gave up the thought as he continued looking at the document he was reading before he called her, he wanted to finish the deal today so he could spend most of tomorrow with Diane before leaving next tomorrow.
Diane dropped as soon as the bus got to her station, it was only about five minutes work from the bus station to her work place, which was why she always used the bus- it was also very cost effective in comparisons to taking a cab.
She signed in and changed her outfit as usual before starting work, perhaps because it was the second day of the week, there were lesser business meetings as compared to yesterday and lesser dates as compared to the weekend, so she wasn’t too tired out, still having some spare energy after her work shift was over.
Since she hadn’t called her daddy this week yet, she placed a call through to him, waiting patiently for him to pick the call the line made the continuous connecting sound from the other side.
“Dad, it’s Diane” she said chirpy as she heard his low baritone voice over the phone, her father had lost his sight some years back from some accident and trauma, it had been a trying time for both father and daughter as Diane had been younger back then.
She guessed he couldn’t see who the caller was which was why she made an introduction and she smiled as her daddy let out a harrumph “you don’t have to call your name every time, don’t I know my princess’s voice?” He said with a low chuckle to which Diane rolled her eyes.
Despite having lost his sight, her dad had never lost himself and his charisma still trying his best regardless of his disability to guide her properly. Her eyes reddened slightly as some memories flashed through her mind.
“How are you doing dad?” She finally asked, she knew her dad always wanted to keep being her hero and the father she looked up to, thus he always bottled up everything inside of him making her worried every time, one of her goals to making money had always been getting her daddy the best medical treatment possible so that he could see again and go back to how her used to be.
“I should be asking you that” Mr Collins voice said from the other end of the call in fake seriousness “how has school been my darling? Dad has missed you so much” he said with a low sigh that could have almost escaped Diane’s ears.
“School is fine dad, I’ll be done soon and I’ll come home as soon as I’m done” she said further reminding herself that nothing was going to stop her from seeing her dad after her final exams.
Since there hometown was quite remote, making money was difficult over there and she still had to use an exorbitant amount to travel home and back, this Diane had always stayed back during every break working hard and building her portfolio.
She had not seen her father in about five years now because even though her heart longed to see him, her main goal has always been making money so he could see her also, see what his princess looked like and how much she had grown now.
But she had also hired an help for him for which she sent the monthly money to the help and also sent the money for all the necessities that her father might probably need also and some extra money in case he needed anything she couldn’t imagine.
Both father and daughter talked as she went back to her dormitory and sometimes she would sit by a side walk bench and talk about some of the recent happenings here and laugh out loudly as her dad told of different things he had heard on the radio or when he took a walk with the dog in the evening.
They only ended the call with reluctant goodbyes after she got to the dormitory and needed to shower and had to get ready for bed because tomorrow was still a school day.
After a quick shower, Diane got into bed and slept immediately.
