Chapter Six: Good news from Celestial!!

1086 Words
It was Friday morning, Diane was extra happy today as it was the last school day and her last day working at the restaurant, after she finished classes, she headed to Mrs Houston’s office to say hello to her, over time she had subconsciously made visiting her every Mondays and Tuesday an habit or perhaps because it worked with her time. “Just the person I wanted to see” Mrs Houston said as soon as Diane entered her office her signature warm smile on “felt like you needed an extra dose of me this week” Diane said jokingly as she plopped into one of the seats in front of Mrs Houston. “How has your week been? Have you started revising for the examinations?” Mrs Houston asked as she opened one of the drawers on front of her and brought an envelope from it handing it to Diane. “What’s in here?” Diane asked, totally forgetting Miss Houston’s earlier question as she opened the envelope, bringing out a folded paper from it. She felt her eyes were playing tricks on her as she saw the bold heading on the paper in that majestic font reading Celestial and she blinked twice to be sure she was right. “Celestial?” she muttered stunned, it was not that it was impossible to get into Celestial, apart from it being the leading financial magnate in the world in recent times, the real struggle was their policies as the standards were too high and they took in only the best of the best, not only that, grades was not all that was required as they had always kept a standard that they didn’t need only book smart individuals in their company. It had become even stricter after the CEO of Celestial had merged it with his family’s business which was equally a strong force thus skyrocketing the prestige of the organization. She knew well enough that Celestial will not send her a mail if she wasn’t accepted but she still couldn’t help reading through it carefully and it was only when she saw her name and her information and the details of the employment was clearly written that she believed it completely that she had been employed. “I really got in” she whispered as her clear white eyes became moist and Mrs Houston smiled at the girl that was shocked into tears. She was really happy for her, she had seen Diane put in the most that someone could put in her studies, she was also aware of how much the girl had worked also to get to where she was today, it was a gratifying reward. She talked with Mrs Houston for some more time before she finally left her office keeping the envelope and employment letter in her bag. The letter said there was going to be an email copy so she guessed that this was Mrs Houston’s copy because of her recommendation but Mrs Houston had insisted that she take it along with her. As soon as she got to her dormitory room, she called Aiden, they hadn’t talked since he went back yesterday “Diane?” Aiden’s voice called out from the other end of the receiver “Aiden, I got the job” she said solemnly making it take a while to register in Aiden’s mind because of the tone of delivery “so why don’t you sound happy? Have you been shocked silly?” Aiden chuckled lowly at the other end. She was so smart and so silly sometimes “Ane, you deserve any good thing you get, so you better chin up and let go of any doubtful thoughts and be happy” he told her partly chiding and partly encouraging. Diane had really been too shocked, she felt like she got the work too easy. All her life, she had to struggle to get whatever she wanted, she had longed developed the habit of giving it her all just to get anything because that was how her entire life had been. But Aiden’s words helped her to feel better and think more clearly ‘I deserve this’ she thought to herself as she nodded her head repeatedly. The human mind could be really complex and insecurities always made humans feel less than they were, she had worked her ass off for five years and finally got a job that was even better than her dream job only to feel like she didn’t worth it. Luckily Aiden was there to snap her out of it quickly. After organizing her emotions and feeling better, Diane dressed to go to work as she hummed along the way, “you seem extra happier today?” one of her co-workers pointed out as she brought a new order to the backend of the restaurant. She smiled at the person and replied “learnt to be more positive today” she said. Although she had worked here for four years, the staffs in the restaurant were often changing and she was one of the few that even the regulars of this restaurant really recognized, perhaps it was her outstanding appearance, but Diane had always claimed it was because of how often they had seen her. She was one of the few females that didn’t believe in the pretty privilege since she always worked so hard, she will hardly realize when it worked for her. Diane called Nelly as soon as she finished from work and got to the school compounds, she had stayed a little longer at work today because she had to clear all her paychecks and complete any other matter since she wasn’t going to go back there again. “Hey lover” Nelly’s voice came from the other end of the receiver immediately “are you okay? Why are you calling so late?” she asked due to it being unusual to get calls from Diane at this time of the day. “I’m fine, I wanted to tell you that I got into Celestial” she replied, anticipating Nelly’s exaggerated reaction. “Celestial? The same Celestial?” Nelly asked anxiously her voice, two tones higher than her normal voice “Oh my God!!!!!” she screamed after an affirmative hum from the other end, “where are you right now? I will come and meet you” jumping down from her bed immediately with the phone still glued to her ears, she rushed out of her room.
