Chapter Seven: Planning a night out

Diane smiled as she saw the frantic Nelly in front of her dormitory, she was certain she had ran all the way here since she aerived at her dormitory before her. There were different dormitories in the school and each dormitory was based on the amount you are willing to pay. Nelly’s dormitory was one of the most expensive ones and was quite a distance away from her own dormitory, for Nelly to be here dressed like this, it was obvious she ran here.

Upon sighting Diane, Nelly ran like a ball of straw in the wind and hugged Diane fiercely “ohh my baby, who would have thought” she said rubbing Diane’s back as tears of joy slipped from her eyes. Diane eyes shimmered in laughter and joy at her dramatic antics that she was used to, but beneath that, she could see the genuine care and happiness in Nelly’s eyes. One could have thought the job belonged to her from her reaction.

Diane hugged her back as both girls smiled in happiness, it was a really good feeling “were you able to end your work with the restaurant in the end?” Nelly asked as both of them strolled around her dormitory area “hmmm, I was able to settle the paychecks and all too, feels really good to see all the money have saved up” she said happily, arms swinging by her side. “Then that’s good” Nelly said, nodding in approval.

She had cultivated the habit of saving from Diane, she had always been a spendthrift growing up, but seeing how hard Diane had it and still had more savings than her, she had felt embarrassed and tried to discipline herself to save a little every time.

“Since you are free tomorrow, let’s go out to celebrate your employment” “bills on me” she added hurriedly before Diane could refuse her. “that’s too much time wasting and noise” Diane refuted, her eyebrows scrunching up, “I knew you were going to refuse, there’s this new place that my brother just built, it has a restaurant and a bar in front of the hotel, really not noisy, we can just invite some few friends, order food and drink and come back to school, we can even stay in the hotel and enjoy the whole day” Nelly said her eyes dancing in excitement, she had not gone out with Diane in so long.

After enough persuasion, Diane finally gave in telling her that she will meet her at the location once she was done with tutoring tomorrow. Satisfied that she was able to convince Diane, Nelly went to her dormitory as she calculated the number of people that she would invite tomorrow, she also made a mental note to talk to her brother ahead to give her plenty discount so that they could enjoy themselves well enough.

After a little more study session, Diane showered and went to bed, grateful for the people that she had around her.

The next day, Diane got up quite early and did some jogging around the school grounds, she did this always every Saturday morning and had maintained the habit for about five years now.

She had then showered and had a quick breakfast before heading to the library, she needed to study, do some past questions and then help the company she was doing with some analysis before she went for her tutoring job.

After about three hours, she was done and left the library and went back to her dormitory, she wanted to wear a dress that could go for the hangout she had with Nelly instead of having to come back to the dormitory after her tutoring session.

She finally settled on a light pink dress that was not too excessive and not too inappropriate. It had not been a difficult decision for Diane had she had really few outfits so that didn’t cost her a lot of time.

After dressing up and styling her hair, she texted Nelly that she was heading to her work place and would meet her at the hangout location so that Nelly would not include her in her plans when she wanted to head over.

“Diane” Luke’s excited voice rang out as she entered their house, the boy was always excited to see her, apart from him being close to his exams, Luke was one of the main reasons why Diane couldn’t just pack up on them last minute, the boy was too sweet and cute.

She pinched the little boy’s cheek as he held his hands and led him to the study room , after asking him questions about his meal and school and other things to get him in the mood to listen and learn, Diane started the class.

“where are you now” Diane asked immediately Nelly picked the call, she had called her as soon as she left her Luke’s house, she had spent a little more time with him because of his upcoming exams and because she wanted to let more time pass so that she wouldn’t have to go to the dormitory before meeting Nelly, one could say that Diane was just cutting on transportation cost. “I’m on my way to our destination, I’ll send you a gps link for you to get the location, you have to use a cab it’s in the uptown district, buses can’t reach there” she explained.

Diane felt like she had been swindled by this sneaky cat but she couldn’t back out at this point so she hailed a cab and explained to the driver that she would give him directions to input soon as she didn’t know the way to her destination. The driver was reasonable and understood her and patiently waited till they had the directions before he started driving.

“I have been to this place like twice, it’s the big society, we might need a special code before we can go in” the driver pointed out few minutes into the drive to which Diane just nodded to him in understanding, she believed that if it required such, Nelly will send it to her as soon as she could if not she could also call her if she didn’t.
