The king of Meha continued to stare at Yara where she was standing. He thought may be he did not hear her correctly. She kept staring at her until she repeated herself. ,"I said I would like you to permit me to go and visit Rega in his house. You have got to trust me or you can send your men to go there with me and bring me back by force if I refused to return" Having said this the king of Meha then called in one of his generals and he stepped in. Upon his stepping in the king made him understand that he would be embarking on a journey to the house of Rega with Yara and that she must not be allowed to be in door alone with him. "You must monitor her movements and make sure she is not left alone with him. He must not touch her hands nor her face. He must be standing away from her and listen to all that they must discuss and when you come back here with her which you must then you tell me everything you heard them discuss" The king said and stood up. He walked away and the general then led the way and Yara followed suit. They stepped outside and Mezie who was standing on the tower of the palace kept staring at her. His friend and one of the officials in the palace, Chere came forward and stood by his side and both of them watched as Yara climbed her horse and the general and his men climbed theirs and they departed at once. Mezie kept on staring as they made their way out of the city. Chere sighed and held him by the shoulder. "Why have you decided not to tell her who you are?" asked Chere and Mezie looked at him. "I told you already of how I left my family and became an official in this palace. The story does not favour me at all and I would be a fool to tell my daughter that I abandoned her when she was just a year old and that I was responsible for her mother's death. It is a story I would not want to see myself telling her in future. I just want her to live her life believing whatever her mother must have made her believe after she came of age" Mezie blinked severally as he said this.
"You are pitiful. You of all people should know that there is no way you will be seeing your daughter every morning and in the hands of a tyrant and you do nothing..You and I know that you are her father and your fatherly love has betrayed once or twice ever since she arrived in this palace. You are showing a fatherly concern and the King's attention is being drawn each passing day. Whatever you must do you have to do it as quickly as possible. Your daughter is a wise lady and you can take advantage of her presence here and teach her all that you were not opportune to teach her in her younger age" Chere said and left Mezie standing there and thinking about all that he had said to him. Mezie shook his head once again and began to walk back to his chamber.
On the road to the house of Rega Yara was speeding with the general and his men and before long they were seen in the compound of Rega and just then Rega was coming out with his bags all hung over his shoulders as he was ready to depart the land of Meha. Yara got down and the general also got down and both of them walked to where Rega had stopped and Yara faced Rega.
"Rega" she called and Rega was not saying a word.
"You are a betrayal and a b***h" he said to her and Yara was not responding, instead she looked all over him and asked, "Where are you going to?"
"Where no one will ever be able to find me again. A place where I can start life afresh and probably find another woman to make me smile again. You have made me cry enough Yara" he said and wanted to move but Yara blocked his path with her body and having nothing to say shook her head and kept mute. "That is it. You have nothing to say because you did what the mouth can not say. Are you not as evil as anyone can be. The later you chew when I saw you holding it. It was when I realised that I was in to be betrayed?" Rega left her standing there and went away. Yara did not know what to think exactly but she was unable to say to him some of the things she could have said to him because of the general standing beside them. Yara mounted her horse again and in her heart she decided to marry the king of Meha in so doing she would have him make some changes in the lives of the people of Meha. She thought that if she was going to sacrifice her love for Rega and marry the king of Meha she would do that for the sake of the people of Meha and liberate most of them from poverty. She began to move to her horse and the general followed her. They mounted their horses and returned to the palace of Meha.
The king of Meha was inside his room when Yara stepped in and stood by the door. The king dropped what he was holding and walked up to her and standing in front of her her he asked, "How did the journey go?"
"Good. I also would like to tell you that I have decided to marry you but you must promise me one thing" said Yara and the king was ready to make any promise to her.
"Promise me that you will do my bidding by rebuilding the houses of some of the people of your kingdom. They protest every now and then, I was once one of the protesters and I can say that I know how it feels when citizen is not being taken care of, is not being looked after. It is one thing to make a promise and it is another thing to fulfil the promise you have made to your people. If to have promised to build them houses then do so. If you have promised to give them loans then do so. This is a way yo will be doing and your people will trust and depend on you..You will gain their heart and their trust. Most importantly you will gain their support. I need you to think all about what I just said now and let us fix a date for our marriage" After she was done she bowed and went to her chambers. The King sat back and sighed deeply.
Inside Yara's chamber a maid walked in and said that the King's adviser was seeking for her presence. After she had asked where she was told he asked for her presence on the balcony of the building. Yara then told the maid to let him know that he would soon be there with him. The maid returned and informed Mezie that Yara would soon join him and he nodded. Shortly Yara came forward and stood beside Mezie and after she had greeted him Mezie wanted to know if she had accepted to marry the king and Yara nodded and added that she was only doing that to save the life of Rega and to equally walk towards liberation some of the people of Meha from abject poverty. When Mezie heard this he was pleased and he told her that she was wise. Yara was grateful for his compliment and wanted to know if that was why he called for her presence but Mezie said No and then went further to ask her where she was from. Yara did not hesitate to let him know that she was from Meha kingdom and on the Northern side of the land. Mezie shook his heard and asked her to tell her some stories about her for she looked familiar to him. When he said this Yara then laughed and told him that he looked familiar as well and that she had previously told the king about it. After she was done laughing she began with the story of how she grew up and how she met with Rega.
The story had it that in the Northern side of Meha the mother of Yara was seen in a forest with her pregnancy as she sought for shelter. She was ready to deliver and her husband who had traveled had not returned. She had dropped the heavy wood she was carrying which she wanted to sell and sought for a shelter under a tree. It was raining and even the tree was not enough to provide her the shelter and she was being beaten by the angry rain. She began to search for big leafs and when she got some she covered herself with them and began to walk away from the forest. When she got home her husband was already back and was worried and he went straight to her and carried her up in his arms and took her inside. He laid her on the bed and laid down beside her.
"I told you not to be carrying woods again. I left you some money and you should have resorted to using it and not working in this your condition. It is always terrible in my eyes when I see you carrying those heavy woods. Now you are going to promise me that you will not carry woods again" After he had said this the woman sighed and said, "Okay honey I do not promise" She said and bursted out laughing. It was on the verge of her laugher that her water broke and she went into labour. Her husband was alarmed and he jumped up and began to call on the neighbors. The neighbors ran in and the women began to help her to deliver. They encouraged her to push harder and before long her child came out. That was how Yara was born and the mother and the father were both happy. The next day she was named Yara and she was loved by all.
