After Yara was done with her tale Mezie smiled and kept looking at her. Yara felt uncomfortable with that look and decided to look away and ask, "Why are you staring at me like that?" she asked and Mezie chuckled. He knew for sure that his daughter had grown wise and he knew too that the part where he had to leave her and her mother was yet untold..That part would break her heart and Mezie wanted to ask. "What about your father, Where is he now?" This question drew the attention of Yara and she looked at Mezie for sometimes then shook her head and did not know where to start from but then she knew that she needed to answer him and so she turned to face him. "Sir your question is not all that pleasing to me because I never got to know my father and I do not know what to answer you now. I know that you have good intentions why you would like to know me very well. I know you are not comfortable with the idea of the king getting married to a woman that was already married. It sounds terrible and it is an abomination but I can also imaging that you know why I had to accept to do what he wants and I do not feel terrible for doing what I had to do. I am sorry if you or Chere or any other official in this palace think me as a gold digger. I am not a gold digger and coming to your question or what you would like to hear from me concerning my father I must tell you that I never got to meet him and my mother who died before I could be ten never got to tell me anything about him. I never asked at that age because I never knew what it was like to have a father and having not grown in a town full of children I never saw other children holding onto their papas. My mother was a good woman and she took good care of me. Now tell me about you. What happened to your family? I never see you go home to your family even when others do. You stay behind in the palace evey day and that is awkward. Can you tell me a bit about yourself?" asked Yara and Mezie and decided he had to lie to her about himself and then forge a story that was not true and tell her. He too realised that just like him his daughter Yara loved to hear stories. The man cleared his throat again and Yara laughed. Mezie looked at her face and could remember that year when she came into the world and she cried and raised her fingers for him to chew. Mezie was so pleased with her and so was Chere who was there also when Yara was born. Chere told Mezie that as long as the child was there he had to give up on his dream of ever becoming an official in the palace of the king of the then king of Meha whose wife gave birth to king Zaz but Mezie would not have it so. His dream all his life was to become an official in the palace of the king of Meha kingdom and nothing was going to stop him from being so. After Chere had said this Mezie walked outside and Chere followed him suit. While outside Chere reminded him that his wife just put to bed and that he needed to be closer to her now and put aside the dream of becoming an official in the palace of Meha. Whenever Chere made mention of putting the dream of ever becoming an official in the palace of Meha aside it would sting Mezie in the ear and he would look at Chere angrily.
"It is your dream too. It is our dream and we must not give up on our dreams. We have to do whatever it takes to hold our success in our own hands. A child coming into this world should be a blessing and not a hindrance. This child's coming only shows that the gods have set my path and that my path is going to be smooth. There will be no obstacle on the way and this brings me to telling this Chere my very good friend; never give up on your dreams. My mind is where my mind has always been and there is nothing anyone can do to stop me. I will look after my daughter for a year and that is the best I will do for her and then I will go to the palace of Meha with you and start a new life there. I want you to know that while I will be there I will looking out for my family the best I will be able to. I will watch her grow and I will do whatever it will take to provide her with the best life. The life that will be good for her and for her mother"
When Mezie was through Chere nodded and believed in his idea. They went back inside and were so happy with the baby and the mother who were both in good health.
Mezie stayed with the baby and the mother for a year just like he said and then it was time for him and Chere to depart. The most hurting part of their departure was that Yara's mother never knew where they went and she never set her eyes on Mezie again until her death. From the palace where Yara's father upon his arrival was arrested alongside Chere instead and put in the cell of the palace monitored his child's grown from the cell. He was not aware of what happened that made the king of Meha to put all the aspiring officials of the palace into his cells but later was told that the king of Meha had lost his golden staff on the day of the arrival of the aspirants and he accused them and had them locked up. This was a terrible situation for Mezie and his friend Chere who though they would be out of the cell the next day but remained in the cell for years. They were in the cell when the mother to Yara died and Mezie lost track of his daughter and do not know where to locate her. The information he was receiving about her stopped coming in because the informant was killed on his way to the palace of Meha by some bandits. Mezie remained in the cell with Chere until the king of Meha decided to release them. When they were released some of them were made officials of the palace while others were dismissed and made to go away from the palace. Chere and Mezie were among those that were selected and made officials.
When they were made officials Mezie decided to know if he could locate the whereabout of his daughter again and he did but when he did she was already married to Rega and he did not want to bring out himself to tell her that he was the father that abandoned her when she was just a year old and never came back until her mother died and she got married. He had actually avoided her ever since then but never for once stopped making sure that she was safe even though she was unaware of his protection.
Mezie's mind was will filled with these thought when Yara nudged him and he gasped and regained himself. Yara was forced to ask. "Where is your mind. I asked you a question too. You have asked me and so I have answered and asked you in return" said Yara. Mezie shook his head and asked further. "What about your mother, what Killed her if I may ask?"
"She died of asthma and that was how it happened. She raised me but was never there to see what I would become" said Yara.
"She never told you anything about your father?" asked Mezie.
"She once told me that my father died while I was a year old but I never thought much about it because it did not change anything. I had already grown without a father and so I did not know what it felt like to have someone to call father" Yara said and smiled.
Mezie knew she was waiting for him to tell her about himself but he was not sure if staying that long with the would be Queen of Meha was the right thing to do. People would soon start talking and so he told her that on a good day he would answer all her questions and promised to always be there for her in case she needed anything. Yara smiled and left him there. Mezie smiled and did not know what to think exactly.
Rega was nearing a lonely city of Ugodu and he was going directly to a woman whose stall was open and she was glaring at him. When Rega reached where she was he asked, "Hello woman, where can i find a place outside this world?" The woman was not sure if she heard him quite alright and so she shook head and said, "You can only find that place when you are dead. When you die you will be seen in the afterlife and there you will be out of the world. As it is now you cannot be out of the world or the universe. You sure look depressed and angry. I can understand you ask that but life is good if you have the heart to live it. I was abandoned by my husband for five years now and here I am selling this small stuffs and feeding the five kids he left me. If after all these and I have not decided to be out of this world you too should not thinking so. Erase that out of your mind and make yourself find happiness again. You can do it. I know you can do it" The stall owner noticed that Rega was not moving and so she stood from her seat and picked one of the bread she was selling and handed it over to him. Rega collected it and ate it. He kicked his horse and continued his journey to nowhere.
