Dinner

{Andromedus’ POV}

We sat at the dinner table, waiting for the food to come out, and discussing some business when suddenly the door opened. “Your graces, may I present Arabella!” Feryn announced as she moved out of the way. I saw a small figure walk slowly, and gracefully into the room.

She stopped once she could see all of us, and bowed. “Your highness’..” she said, her voice like a melody. Her hair was long, a deep brown, like the color of coffee, while her eyes shown bright like emeralds.

“Ms. Arabella!” Tari stood, walking over and carefully placing his hand in the crook of her back and leading her to the table, pulling out the chair between him and Theluun. “Please, sit here, and dinner shall be served soon!” He smiled down at her.

“Oh.. thank you, your highness..” she said, smiling up at him. Something in me saw this as an act of defiance, like trying to say that she is our equal, while the other part of me was happy that for once a human wasn’t being so rude. “S-Should I go help?” She asked, looking up at him, then over at Theluun.

I scoffed and rolled my eyes, of course. “Why, so you could poison us?” I asked, snarling at her.

She looked at me, with wide eyes, she almost looked hurt. “No.. I just.. at home I was always the one who cooked, your majesty.. I just thought.. I’m sorry..” she whimpered, looking down at her hands.

In a mere moment, Nym was beside her, grasping her chin and tilting it up to look at him. “Awe, so cute, so submissive!” He jested, poking fun of the girl.

“Nym, don’t!” Theluun said, grabbing Nym’s arm and moving him back to the other side of the table.

“Fine, fine! I was only teasing!” He laughed, winking at the human.

Her face began to turn the most adorable shade of red. She looked between Theluun, and Shitari and smiled at them. “T-Thank you for inviting me..”

“No problem Arabella! You need to eat anyways, how are you feeling now?” Shitari asked, looking over her.

She smiled up at him, that same smile I’ve seen since she walked in the room, besides of course when she was talking to me or NymKarna. “Much better, thank you.. thanks to both of you I’m feeling better.” Her eyes dropped back to her hands and I saw her fumbling with them.

“What do you mean?” I asked, in my normal gruff tone. “What was wrong with her?” I asked my brothers.

“She was hurt when she got here, nothing we couldn’t fix up though.” Tari smiled at me, then turned back to her.

“So did Feryn help fix that dress to fit you?” He asked, making small talk I suppose.

She smiled, and fumbled with her hands once again, must be a nervous habit. “Yes.. she did. She had to shorten it quite a bit, she also helped with my hair and makeup. She is so kind, everyone has been since I’ve gotten here.” She smiled up at Tari.

I sat back, crossing my arms over my chest. “Don’t take this kindness to mean anything other than pity!” I sneered at her. “We just feel sorry for you!”

“Andro, zip it!” Theluun shot at me, his voice dripping with venom.

She nodded, looking down at her hands. “It’s okay your highness..” she said, looking to Theluun. “I know why I’m here, it’s not as though I’m an i***t. I know that I’m only in the Fae Realm to die.” She said, sitting up straighter. “So try not to feel sorry for me, it’s not like I was lied to, misled, tricked in any kind of way. I knew when I stepped through the portal that I would die here.” She stood from the table and turned, walking towards the door. “I’m sorry, I’m not feeling hungry anymore, if you’ll excuse me, I’d rather go to sleep. It’s been a long day..” she said, her voice barely above a whisper. She turned back to face us, and bowed once again. “Goodnight your majesty’s.” Then she turned on her heel and made her way back up the stairs.

“Really? Really Andro?” Tari yelled. “She’s been through enough without you tormenting her for nothing!” About that time dinner came out, and the staff began placing it on the table.

Feryn grabbed a plate and loaded it down with a little of everything, then left the room without a word. She was angry, everyone knew it, and I knew that this was my fault. “I’m not really hungry either..” Theluun said, standing and throwing his napkin down, before turning and leaving the room in a huff.

Shitari followed after him, also angry with the way dinner had gone. I sighed, and began piling food onto my plate. “WOW..” I could hear the judgement basically rolling off of NymKarna. “I always knew that you were the biggest jerk of all of us, and I know how much you hate humans.. but she didn’t do anything wrong.” He said, standing up, he leaned down over me. “How does it feel to be the worst of us Andro?” He snickered, before turning on his heel to leave.

I picked up a turkey leg, about to eat it, but the events of tonight had ruined my appetite as well. I tossed the turkey leg across the room, and stood storming back up to my tower. As I passed that door with the gold roses, I could hear Feryn inside. “Please.. you need to eat something..” she said softly.

Begging a human is pathetic, they’re weak and ignorant anyways, but then I heard the girls soft voice again. “I’m okay Feryn, you should eat! You’ve been taking care of me all day, I’m sure you’re hungry.” Her voice was soft, and kind. “Really, I’m okay, I’m just really tired.”

I heard Feryn sigh. “Fine, I’ll eat some, you eat some!”

“Alright, as long as you eat something Feryn.” The girl sighed, and I heard giggles coming from Feryn.

“You’re not like the other humans I’ve met, most of them are cold, and angry when they come here. I always assumed it was because they knew they were going to die. That maybe they were just sad, but you, you don’t seem bothered by any of this..” Feryn’s voice was gentle, not gentle than I’m used to from her.

“Well.. they probably had something worth going back to..” the girl said softly. “I know the simplest truth..” she whispered.

“And what’s that?” Feryn asked, I could hear her fork hit the plate.

“That there are worse things than death.” The human answered, her voice full of honesty, and sadness.
