Chapter 7: A Voice?

The hellhound let out a howl that was pretty loud, it echoed inside of the ruins.

The moment it did that, I knew for a fact that it was time for me to start running away from the hellhound already. Because if I didn’t... for sure I wouldn’t have the time to escape anymore as this place would be crowded with monsters.

Because that howl wasn’t just a howl. Why? I recalled that the hellhound had a skill similar to that made it able to summon its friend. I do not wish to take a risk...

That’s why I am leaving right now, it would be stupid for me to wait here even if what I thought is wrong. I ran as fast as I could, I never looked back as I went deeper inside of this ruin.

The deeper I get inside of this place, past the point where I was actually being placed before. The ruin was getting a lot darker and making it pretty hard for me to see almost anything. But of course, that didn’t stop me at all from advancing.

If I stop now, it would just make all of my previous attempts at attacking the hellhound go to waste. Thus the only option I had was just to go on unless there was some obstacle that makes me forced to quit this task of mine.

Past one point of the ruin, I realized that I can’t go on deeper, because if I enter that part of the ruin. I wouldn’t be able to see anything at all. As the place was too dark for me. I feel like I want to enter but am afraid that I would somehow be lost inside that part of the ruins.

It would be a lot worse to say at least if that ever happened. But of course, I still haven’t found anything in this ruin at all. I have found that broken straight sword before but that’s all I had discovered. Makes me think that all of the good stuff might be further inside.

Maybe I should give up and start going into the outside world already, there are a lot of things to explore there. Who knows that people might not be calling me a p*****t after all because this is a fantasy type of world. Not the 21 first century... so probably there’s no rule stating that I needed to wear full clothing.

So as I was just about to turn back, there was a light coming within the dark depth of the ruin.

Made me stand for a while and start to wonder what that light was. It’s glowing in red color and it seems to be coming toward me. Because every second, the thing appears to be much closer until- I finally realize what it was...

I quickly crouched to the ground as it wasn’t just a light. It’s a fireball and it was heading towards me... The fireball slipped from me as I managed to evade it before it even arrived. Though one thing is weird, how did the fireball suddenly appear out of nowhere?

There must be someone or something cast that magic towards me, because- It can’t be!

There’s one monster that could blend in a shadow and was good at using magic. It wasn’t a monster to say as it’s more of a humanoid kind of a monster. The thing was called a shadow warlock, there’s another shadow type but only the warlock type could cast spells like that.

But of course, this isn’t a problem, since these shadow types of humanoid monsters wouldn't be able to move without shadow. Meaning that it couldn’t reach where I am right now, since I am on the side which doesn’t have a lot of shadows.

Knowing that, of course, my choice is going to run away... It would be rather dumb of me to step into that part knowing that there’s the shadow warlock there. Plus, if that shadow warlock was there. For sure the rest of its type must be in that part of the ruin as well.

I would enter but I am aware that I am severely under-level and of course, I have no gear to fight anything... even against a weak monster. So if I couldn’t handle a weak monster, for sure I will have no chance of winning against that thing.

If I recall correctly, that stuff usually is for people that reach level 30 above. So I could say those monsters are for people that are strong enough. Knowing that fact, that’s why I choose to escape and get out from these ruins since I would gain nothing here anymore.

Unless there’s something good around here, I would say despite knowing that it’s pretty dangerous for me to stay.

“Stop there!” A voice suddenly said that towards me.

It shocked me for a bit as I didn't expect that there would be a voice in this ruin at all. I immediately looked around to see who was talking to me but of course, there were no people there. Makes me think that I have made up that voice in my own mind.

I do look towards the dark depth of the ruin for a bit. I shake my head gently, there’s no way that the voice comes from inside of that place. No one was there besides the monster and beast...

As I was just about to leave once again, I began to hear the same sound. This time telling me to wait for a moment. Hearing it twice made me rethink that this sound might not be something that my mind had made up. Because this time, it was more clear and the sound was coming from that dark depth of the ruin.

So with that, I decided to test it out by replying to that voice...

“Who are you! Why are you telling me to wait... tell me or else I would leave this place!” I said that trying to threaten the one that was making the voice.

Surprisingly, the voice did reply to what I had said earlier.

“Just wait for a moment, it will soon be revealed to you.” The voice said that to me.

To be honest, I am quite intrigued about who’s been talking to me. But at the same time, I began to think whether it was wise for me to wait here.

Because the voice appears the moment the fireball stops targeting me anymore. Meaning that there’s a chance that all of the monsters plan to lure me inside of the dark depth of the ruin. So I am between the line of wanting to trust the voice or either to use this time to run away from here.

Though in the end, I choose to stay since I feel like even if it’s a trap. I could probably get out of it since I am not a regular person either.

It’s been around a few minutes or so but nothing happened at all. The voice that talks to me also doesn’t seem to be talking anymore. Making me think that all of it was fake? I love to wait but I feel like I am wasting my time here.

But just like before, the moment I started to walk away from this area of the ruins. The voice started to reappear again and this time it was telling me to walk into the dark depths of the ruin. Hearing that, I was reluctant to do so because surely it was a trap.

“Why would I do that? Tell me a good reason for it and if I think it’s good enough, I will then do as you said.” I said that to the voice hoping to know why it wanted me to enter that area of the ruin.

The voice then said, “Simple, walk down this path and you would be rewarded with something you want...”

Something I want? Is that what I thought it would be... because what I currently wanted the most was of course some clothing. But of course, it might be something else also.

Though even if the voice said that, I still feel like it’s a trap. Because the voice should at least utter the things that I wanted the most in order to convince me. But the voice just said something I want, making me think that the voice doesn’t even know what I want. It simply said that because it wanted to lure me in.

“I see, so would I get power then if I step into the shadow?” I said that trying to see whether the voice knows what I wanted the most right now.

If the voice guessed it wrong, then I would just walk away from this ruin altogether.

“Sure, I will give you the power to bend the will of the people around you... So-”

Before the voice could even finish saying what it wanted to say, I cut it off completely by saying that the voice is wrong...
