CHAPTER 19
“Mom?”
Gloria jerked herself awake with something between a snore and a gasp of surprise.
Susannah was leaning over her. “Mom, you ok? Did you sleep out here?”
Gloria glanced around. She was in her favorite chair in the living room, a cup of half-drunk tea beside her on the end table.
“I must have come out in the middle of the night.” Memories from her fitful sleep crashed and swirled in her mind, and she did her best to shove them out of her thoughts.
Susannah looked concerned. “Is something wrong?”
Gloria shook her head. “No, I’m just fine. What time is it?” She glanced at the clock. Quarter to eight already? She’d barely have time to get dressed, let alone make herself look somewhat presentable for VBS.
“I wish you’d gotten me up sooner. Is Kitty awake?”
