“And so that’s how God gets us all to heaven? By giving Jesus our sins so we don’t get punished for them?”
Gloria smiled at the somewhat simplistic explanation. “That’s right, Bowman. I’m very proud of you, young man. You’ve been listening.” She patted him on the head while he scooped a spoonful of blue Jell-O into his mouth.
“There’s still one more thing I’m wondering.”
She leaned toward him. “Wait until you’ve swallowed. Then you can ask me.”
His throat worked loudly as he gulped down his bite. “Why do people say that we’re asking Jesus into our hearts? He doesn’t really live there, does he?”
“Well, it’s the Holy Spirit who lives inside us.” She pulled up the empty chair beside him.
“But he’s not going to mess with my actual heart, is he?” Bowman pointed to his chest.
