CHAPTER 18 The autumn sun shines warm on my face. The smell of leaves freshly fallen from their branches mingles with the scent of roses. This is a beautiful garden. I can’t believe we’ve never been here before. He wraps his arm around my waist while we walk and leans into me. “You’re as beautiful as ever.” “I weigh a lot more now than I did the last time you held me like this,” I tell him, but he just smiles at me. “You’re absolutely perfect.” Just like this garden. “Where are we?” I ask. “I don’t recognize this place.” He smiles, always the adventurous one, and leads us ahead. “I packed us a picnic,” he says, and then we’re sitting in the dirt, and he’s laying out the spread. Fruit salad, s’mores, and gluten-free animal crackers. “I’ve been spending too much time at VBS,” I joke,
