Chapter 4 - Under water and flowing fabrics.

1112 Words
Serina I was walking around the forest when I heard cries of pain and agony. Confused, I decided to check on what produced such hurtful sounds. I wish I hadn’t. There were bodies everywhere, both witches and werewolves alike. Fear overtook me as an arrow flew past my face, scratching my cheek. I decided to ground myself. The moon turned red, as if set ablaze, and I screamed, feeling all my energy being focused. I fell to my knees in pain, clutching my head as I tried to direct my energies. When the pain had subsided, I lifted my head to look around. It seemed time had stopped, and everyone was frozen in place. I walked along the battlefield, the grass behind me rotting away with each step. Was this real? The stinging of the wound on my cheek suggested it was, but there were no other indications. I tried to breathe and make sense of it all when the world around me faded into nothingness. I looked around only to come to the realization that there was nothing to be observed, only pure abysmal darkness. I felt myself being pulled from this nightmare; my eyes fluttered open as I shot up in bed still confused about where I was. I came to the realization that I was still in the pack house; in the same bed I had fallen asleep on. Wayne was gone, his side of the bed already neatly made. This caused my curious mind to wander. Where could he be? It was five in the morning. I got up out of bed, and looked around the room. He did not seem to be in the bathroom, so I decided to take my new-found freedom into account, and I left the room. I was still shaken from the nightmare. I had no idea why this nightmare was so repetitive, but it had to mean something. If only there was someone who could help me understand its meaning. I wandered around the pack house, careful not to wake any sleeping pack members. I found myself focusing on Wayne, then I started chanting. As I chanted the scrying spell like my mother had taught me, a vision of the backyard came into play. Wayne seemed to be underwater, he didn’t look like he was struggling though, which sent me into a panic. I ran to the backdoor of the kitchen which led to the backyard. It had a massive swimming pool. I looked for Wayne’s drowning form before realizing he wasn’t in the pool. My concern only grew, maybe he was by the lake near the waterfall? Then it dawned on me. Why did I even care about what happened to him, serves him right for taking me against my will to an unknown destination? I turned to walk back inside when I felt wet arms grab my waist from behind, pulling me closer. Before I could scream for help, I was turned around, and faced with none other than the culprit himself, Wayne. I narrowed my eyes hitting his chest. “I thought you were dead!” I screamed, making my point clear on how I felt about this whole situation. “I mean do you even-” He held a finger to my mouth, silencing me. “Hey calm down, no one is dead.” He laughed hysterically, which caught me off guard. “I decided to take an early morning swim. Did you want to join me perhaps?” He inquired, his wolfy grin never leaving his face. I glared at him as he picked me up bridal style. “Wayne, don’t you dare!” He gave me a wicked grin before jumping into the water. I never left his arms and held on tight. He let go of me, so I could swim on my own. The water was warm. That figures, I mean they did have a lot of money, so why not waste it on a self-heating pool? I rolled my eyes at him as he swam over. “Leave me alone Wayne, it is tiring enough trying to cope with the fact that you guys are keeping me hostage.” I stated before climbing out. His smile fell, and I looked away so as to not cause my own heart to twist in pain. Lately, I feel like someone had cast a love spell on me or something, that had to be the only explanation for these feelings. I walked back inside taking his towel with me since I didn’t bring one, he looked like he wanted to protest but remained silent. I headed back into the room, and decided that taking a shower would be a good way to start off the rest of my morning. Time flew by, and eventually it was time for everyone to grab breakfast. I sat next to Wayne as per usual, and tried ignoring him for the rest of breakfast. Once breakfast was over, Wayne took me on a tour around town. Everyone seemed to have a proper disdain for me. That wasn’t any of my concern though. We walked for quite a while as I got a clear layout of the pack grounds. After a few introductions, and visiting a couple of places, I was now well acquainted with the entire pack. Wayne led me to a rather expensive looking car. It was black obviously, and the windows were tinted. He opened the door, and I was excited to leave the pack borders, even if it was just for a little while. Wayne told me that if I tried to run away, they would find me anyway, so much for that plan. I looked out the window, the trees passed by in a blur, and I thought about what life would be like if I were just a normal human being, life would have been so much easier. Wayne decided we had to go to the mall a couple of towns over, so no one would recognize who I was, and try to take me back home, which just reminded me how cold of a person he really was. We eventually got to the mall where he took me to shop for clothes. He bought me some of the most expensive brands out there, and the only question I had left was, how could he afford all of this, whilst also running a pack? There had to be something more to it than just being the future heir to a pack, right? We loaded all of my new clothes and accessories into the car before we drove off back to the pack house. What a day.
