Adaline's POV
I am still very confused as to how George and Mia knows about Barrett, but I guess there will be a grilling on Monday. James was happily skipping towards the playground in the park ready to play. Barrett was walking extremely close to me with Stefan and Elliot trailing behind. I don't think I will ever get used to that. You know, two days ago I was a normal mom well as normal as some moms come, working, taking care of a toddler and just trying to survive. Now I honestly have no idea what my life has become. I am supposed to be a co-leader for a bunch of werewolves, which sounds like I should be in the loony bin. I am supposed to be "mated" to Barrett for the rest of my life, which to me also seems crazy and to top it off, I'm supposed to undergo the most painful change of my life into a werewolf. What the heck do I do?
"Its okay to discuss and ask as many questions as needed. You know that, right?" Barrett pulled me out of my thoughts. "Hmm oh yeah of course, it's just I don't really know where to start." I looked at James laughing and playing with a group of kids. He always made friends wherever he went. "I guess my main concern is James, what does this mean for him? I am not choosing you over him. I am sorry, but that wont ever happen. He is my world and it revolves around him." I looked at Barrett to gauge his reaction.
"I would never ask you to put James aside or even put him second. He is your child, which makes him a very protected member of our pack. Regardless if he is mine or not. As you are the Luna, which makes him a ranking member of the pack, he won't be alpha, but I will find a place for him. If he wants, when he is of age he will be acting alpha until his sibling becomes alpha. He, too, can become a wolf if he finds a mate. I know this is a lot to take in and I want you to be as comfortable as possible. I am not going to pressure you or rush you into any decisions. I want to be fully open and honest with you." He took a long pause and sighed. "I never really wanted a mate. I was open to it when I first turned 18. That is when we typically find our mates, as that is when we get our wolves. I tried to find mine for 6 months. I now know why I couldn't find you, but when I didn't, I gave up and decided to run my pack by myself. Since my pack is the largest and strongest in the country, we get to make most of our own rules, as the elders trust our decisions. So I made it where I could do it alone. Then I found you and the Moon Goddess explained everything to me and I cannot get you out of my head. There is nothing more in the world I want than to make you happy and have you as the Luna of my pack."
Woah, that was a lot of honesty all at once. I do admire that about him, he does seem to want to make sure I am completely comfortable. " Thank you for being honest with me, I do have a couple questions to go off with that though. For starters, who is the Moon Goddess and what did you mean by knowing now why you couldn't find me?" He laughed, " you really do catch everything don't you? Well, the Moon Goddess is our creator, she is the one who made us who we are, she also is the one who designs who our mates are. She has everything picked before we are born." I'm pretty sure my eyes were as big as saucers, none the less I wanted to know more so I nodded for him to continue. "When I was out I was brought to the Moon Goddess, I was actually pretty sure I was dead, since you typically don't see her unless thtat happens. She explained to me that she had you picked as my mate because you were the most understanding and that you deserved the love and happiness of your true mate, me. She said from a young age she planted New York all around you so that way you would find your way to me. However, you fell in love with Sebastian and started a family and she does not meddle in love lives. She was set to have me have a second chance mate, most likely one that lost their first mate, however you went through all the horrible things and were already in New York so she let fate work to get us together."
Holy crap. I mean, I always knew I wanted out of my home town and that for some reason I wanted New York. I never really knew why, but now it makes sense. My parents died when I was 12 from a bad accident. They never really told me how, so I went to live with my grandfather. He was always very cautious about it when I brought it up. I definitely need to talk to Beck about a lot of things when we get back for sure. We fell into a comfortable silence after that though watching James play. I was warming up to Barrett the more we talked. "He is a popular little dude, isn't he?" I looked at James, who was apparently now the leader of the little group who looked to contain a bunch of 4 to 5 year olds. "He was always good at making friends, even for someone so young, even his daycare teachers say he is the first one to help when new kids come to make them comfortable and he has them warmed up after playing for 10 minutes." I couldn't help but smile at that, he will be a great man one day. "He will make a great leader one day or at least everyone will trust him and his judgments." I snapped my head to Barrett "I was just thinking that he will be a great man one day, that is so weird!" We both began to laugh, James came up to us "Barrett can we go to your house now I want to play with Sawyer and Heather." We stood up and began walking to the car "You really like Heather huh little man?" Barrett had a point James was extramly fond of her. "Yeah shes the best and when I am older we are going to be family" he stated matter of factly. We looked at each other and back at James, what does this kid know? "Okay, let's get Beck and head home, I mean my home, house, you know what I mean." He gets flustered easily, I thought and laughed to myself. I did like the way it sounded though, when he said let's head home. Am I falling for him already?
