Chapter 8

2412 Words
Inside a small but neat cabin, a woman was writhing from pain. Her skin looked pale and she was sweating. Tears also spilled out from her closed eyes. Her hair was disheveled on an old pillow.  An old man saw it all. He witnessed how the lady suffered. He helped her and took care of her for almost two days now. He just swiped those sweat to help the woman from its fever. That was all the things he could do because he was old and fragile already since he used his last strength to save her. He was willing to sacrifice himself just for this woman.  “Please, wake up, My Child,” he said while wiping the woman’s sweet. He tried to bring her temperature down by using cold water.  “Mom…” she softly whispered but the old man heard it. He smiled sadly at the woman and continued what he was doing. His wrinkled face got more wrinkled when he became sad and hopeless for the woman.  ~ It was so dark that Angelique couldn’t see anything. She tried to touch her surroundings but she couldn’t feel anything. It was like she's in a void place that made her nervous.  “Mom! Grandma? Grandpa!” She called for them but it seems like they never heard her. No one answered that added fire to her nerve aching heart. She never knew why she felt so sad, yet she was mad and afraid. Her emotions were everywhere and she couldn't seem to handle them. Her body aches so she released a groan.  “Arg! Sh*t!” she cursed. “Where am I? Mom, where are you?” she called her again. She tried and tried but she was answered by silence.  She suddenly slumped down when she felt a blow of wind pass through her. It was so cold and was followed by a whisper that brought a shiver to her flesh.  “You are worthless. I don't need an heiress like you. You're just a waste of space!” “You are worthless. I don't need an heiress like you. You're just a waste of space!” “You are worthless. I don't need an heiress like you. You're just a waste of space!” Words were repeated that made Angelique cover her ears. She did not want to hear it but even whatever she did, it never disappeared. Instead, the voice became louder and louder, taunting her to give up. It was followed by a devil laugh of a man.  “No! That's not true! Go away!” she shouted hoping it would fade away. However, whatever she will do, it never did. It just becomes meaner. “Stop!” She laid down on the floor like a fetus, still trying to block the voice. As time passed, it became louder and louder that truly hurt her ears. “Boo!” a voice of a man startled her. Because of this, she squirmed which made her fall down on the dark abyss. She didn't know what’s going on, but she fell down on a never-ending chasm. She closed her eyes to comfort herself.  ~ Slowly, the woman opened her eyes, and a blurry image appeared.  She didn't know but she felt safe seeing the old man talking to her. But still, she didn't have any energy to answer him back. She closed her eyes again and slept. In her sleep, she has another dream.  ~ Angelique saw a woman walking home. She recognized the road because this is where she always walked by when she goes to school and went home from school. She didn't know who the woman was until it turned around.  She saw a beautiful woman with a beautiful smile on her lips. Happiness radiated from her that even her eyes were shining. She was so beautiful, young, and innocent.  Angelique smiled because she knew the woman even though she looked younger. She knew her face and even her heart recognized her. She is Susan, her mother.  “Mom,” she called her but it seems it never heard her. Susan continued walking home. Angelique knew that she would never see her again so she just followed her.  To what she analyzed, her mother was walking home and it was already late. She felt the urge to hug her mother so she approached her and tried to hug her. But her hand just passed through her and then the scene suddenly changed.  From a peaceful road, it changed into a dark and alley full of bushes. It was really hard to identify this place. Even Angelique, who almost went everywhere, could not identify the place. It was also eerie.  The eerie feeling intensified when she saw what was happening on her right. A scene she never thought she would see.  A younger version of Susan, her beautiful and nice mother, was full of bruises and a man was forcing her. Her mother tried to fight but the man was so strong.  Angelique tried to help but she could not move her body. All she could do was to witness it all. It ached her heart to see how her mother suffered and produced her. She took all the humiliation and still raised her with love and compassion.  “No! Mama!” she cried but no one heard her. She couldn't imagine what her mother felt that night.  She cried and cried, along with her mother. She could do anything but witness the same dreadful night that she was conceived. Until the man stood up and left her mother like a used rag. But before that, she saw how the guy turned into something she never expected. A werewolf that only appeared in myths.  Her surroundings changed again. This time, she was standing in a big house. An not really old lady was cooking. Then a guy, the guy who did something wrong with her mother. He approached the woman whose back facing him.  She saw how the guy smirked as he looked at the woman. He saw a knife lying on the table, where some sliced vegetables were put by the woman to cook. She used the knife as the tool to cook, but Angelique saw that he will use it on something sinister.  “What are you going to do, you monster?” she screamed but it was just a memory and no one can hear or see her. She couldn't move too to help the woman.  The guy walked near the table and swiftly took the knife and he hides it on her back. The woman felt him, she faced him.  “You’re home late, again!” You could say that the woman was mad. But the guy just smirked and approached the woman.  “Mom, you know that I am tired of your nagging?” he said like he was really annoyed.  “I have the right to scold you because I am your mother. I need to guide you. But it seems you’re too stubborn to hear me.” She signed and walked to the table. “Where is my knife?” she asked when she couldn't find her knife.  Suddenly, an arm snaked on her neck, making her still. She saw her knife ready to slit her neck and it was his son who was doing it.  Angelique's eyes got wider seeing it. She never thought that this guy is really a psycho. He will kill whoever he wants, even his own parents who take care of him and nurture him when he was young.  “Are you looking for this, mother?” he asked, playing the knife on his mother's neck. It scratched her there and blood dripped on her clothes.  “W-what are you doing?” she stammered when she talked. She was nervous.  “Nothing really. I am just tired of hearing things from your mouth. I'm just going to shut you up,” he told her like it was just a casual conversation.  “I am your mother!” That was the only thing she said when she felt the pain in her throat. The guy was slitting her neck already. She was still thinking of a way to escape but… too late.  “I don’t need a mother,” he said and let go the lifeless body of a woman. The woman who was his own mother that he killed on their dining table with a kitchen knife without any mercy. Angelique shivered because this is the first time she saw a psycho lang him.  Angelique couldn’t move and she did not have any idea what to do but to watch the scene that unfolds in front of her. If she remembered correctly, this guy was her father, then the old lady was her grandmother.  She never thought that she was from this guy. She felt sorry for herself, for her having a father like him.  Suddenly, another older guy walked inside and just broke down. He saw his Luna, wife, and mate laying on the ground, lifeless and bathing in her own blood.  The old guy looked at his son with confusion to fury. But it seems the guy was ready for this. He attacked the old guy like how he attacked his mother.  “I will take over the pack. You’re just a loser Alpha that just followed the King and made friends with another pack, even though we are superior. We have the upper hand here. We can take over everything, but you are just a damn loser.” He attacked the old man again and again.  The old man was going through some bond-breaking because of his mate's death. So, he does not have the strength to fight back. He just let his son kill him. At least he will be happy to be with his mate once again.  But it seems fate was for him. His best warrior, his beta came in and saved him.  The son just smirked and attacked them. He wounded the old man and Beta saved him. They both ran away, along with others that supported them. Those who remain will follow their new ruler. A vicious and evil ruler. Angelique witnessed it all that added fuel to her burning heart. Hatred covered her heart for this man. She wanted to kill him for the life he took and many more sins he had done.  All the scenes rushed inside her head. She remembered what happened. Now she lost everything because of this guy.  She broke down because of all the emotions she was feeling. She cried until there were no tears left behind. She thought it was just easy, but her tears won’t stop.  “Honey, why are you crying?” she heard a soothing voice that she really recognized so well. She cried harder hearing her.  “I am sorry, Mama. I didn't save you,” Angelique said.  “Angelique, listen to me.” She lifted her head high and looked at her mother.  Her mother was so beautiful and her wearing white really emphasized her good characteristics. It was made for her. She couldn’t believe that she would see her.   “Do not blame yourself. It was not your fault. It just, that the end of my life,” she told her. ”Go on with your life. Be happy and live. You are better than this.”  She couldn't talk but just look at her mother. She wanted to speak and ask her but no words came.  Susan just smiled as she slowly vanished.  “I love you. Go on, My angel,” her only words before she vanished.  At the same time, Angelique fell into a pit of nowhere. She screamed and suddenly sat up, catching her breath.  ~ “It is good that you are awake. Take this water.” An old man came out from nowhere and gave her water. She drank it, just a little because her throat was still sore.  “Thank you!” she said, full of gratitude. But her eyes got bigger when she knew who the old man was. “Grandpa?” “Yes,” then he coughed, “I am. This is my last chance to talk to you. I gave you all my remaining strength and I am thankful that you woke up before I will go. I want you to live and make things right this old man couldn’t do. Maybe, I do not have the right to ask you. But you are the only one who can help all the people. Not only humans but werewolves too. You are the only savior we have to set us free from Lucio’s clutch. You’re the only one who can defeat him.” “That was the reason she killed you because he was afraid that you will take what he worked hard for. I want you to treasure your second life, but he will never stop hunting you down when he knows you are alive. Make yourself strong and fight. Not for the life he took, but also for the life that will be taken by him.” “Please, help us,” her grandfather asked her, which is the impossible. She never thinks that she will do a great thing for the people.  But, she really does want to? But at this moment, she does not have the heart to do that. She never cares if they die or live.  “Read this book and you will know everything. From your origin to the rules, and the strategy you may use to defeat them.,” the old man put a small notebook in her hand. “Thank you!” he said with a smile on his face.  Angelique saw her grandpa having a hard time breathing. He walked to a chair and sat down on it. He leaned on it and Angelique never heard anything. She knew he died peacefully.  “Not again.” She never cried, or couldn't. No tears form in her eyes. No emotion can be seen and felt. All she has was a void heart, blank and meaningless.  All she wanted to do was to survive and she might do what the old man just said.
