Chapter Four

I blew out a breath I didn't know I was holding and looked around the restaurant. Although the outside of the building looked run down, it was lovely on the inside. Light grey flooring with the same coloured chairs surrounded glass tables giving it a modern feel. Some of the flooring at the back of the room had been raised, which I assumed was somewhere a band or singer would perform. The best part of it were the glass doors leading out to the decking. I headed out and selected the table, farthest away from the building which afforded me a perfect view of the beach. What a wonderful piece of heaven, I had managed to stumble upon. After a few stressful minutes battling valliently with my bottle of wine, I was able to release the cork and pour an almighty slug into the glass. I actually needed the wine after meeting my mate. I wondered what his name was. He had sounded like he was in charge, so maybe he was 'Morgan'? But the name didn't really suit him, so I hoped it might be something else. My burger arrived as promised, and I was disappointed that it hadn't come from the tall dark handsome stranger. Although when I studied the guy that served me I realised he looked a lot like Mr Fantastic, same colour eyes and hair, but he was younger. They had to be related! Frustrated with not having his name yet I decided to ask there and then. "Oh thats Blake, he's my older brother" he rolled his eyes towards the kitchen "I'm Kal" Kal had an easy smile and a flirtatious gleam in his eye. I don't think he was much older than 16 and he was very sweet. "I'm Piper, it's a pleasure to meet you." He smiled again and seemed to hover around the table. "Sit down if you want," I said a little bit too eager to get to know my future family. "Thanks, but Blake would kill me if I sat down with customers during my shift." "Well I certainly don't want to get you into any trouble." I picked up my burger and took a gigantic bite. I was absolutely famished and this along with the fries wouldn't touch the sides." "Christ, do they not feed you where you're from?" He chuckled at me whilst I tried, and failed, to surreptitiously wipe my mouth with the back of my hand. "Sorry" I apologised around the half-cow in my mouth. I took a swig of red wine to try and dislodge the burger that was quite close to choking me. Kal continued to laugh. "I was due to have dinner with some.... associates, but one of them was unwell so we didn't get around to eating. I walked the beach for about a mile before I found this place. Plus I missed lunch today." I stuffed some fries into my face, trying to look a little more lady like. "I see, so where do you hail from?" He had such a natural way about him, he was very confident for someone his age. I kept my fingers crossed that he learnt from his brother. "About an hour in that direction," I gestured towards the general area of where I had come from, trying to be as vague as I could. "From New Forrest?" He asked impressed "Wow that's a pretty huge town, I mean compared to this place it is! There's only a couple of thousand of us in here." He wrinkled his nose in disgust "Sometimes it feels even smaller than that!" I let that hang in the air for a minute or so to see if he would elaborate, but he didn't say anything further other than "Enjoy your meal" With Kal now walking back towards the kitchen I literally inhaled my food from the plate. Truth is I'd had lunch and breakfast and probably a few snacks in between, but I had worked really hard in the morning warrior class and had ran my borders in the afternoon. I had been promised a huge feast at Alpha Michael's, a dinner 'fit for a Luna', although he could have lied about that also. My temper started to stir when I thought about that, like embers of a dying fire, glowing intensely as the breeze touched them before cooling down again. Best not to think about that Jack Ass! My attention was pulled away suddenly as the door to the eatery was slung open and in walked five or six guys. One of them took the lead and swaggered towards the bar like he owned the place. He looked extremely dangerous and was enough to put Roxy on edge. She growled softly in my head. Just a small warning to me, to let me know she'd clocked this guy and was not happy with him. My eyes darted from one individual to the other, assessing the situation, weighing up who was likely to cause more damage. The guy slammed his hand down on the bar hard making me jump. "Can I get some service out here or what?" He yelled out to no one in particular. The Kitchen door swung open and out stormed Blake, looking more pissed off than he was when he met me. "What do you want, Logan?" Blake locked his jaw and folded his arms over his chest. They clearly knew each other, whether that was good or bad remained to be seen. "Just a few beers for me and my buddies, sweetheart" came Logan's response. Both guys just looked at each other. Eventually Blake sighed loudly and started to pull beer bottles from the fridge. I blinked in surprise, I hadn't expected that to happen. He started wrenching the bottle tops off with his bare hands. Somewhere deep down I felt a stirring of desire. Bad Piper! This was hardly the time. "Where's Kal?" Logan asked abruptly. "Studying, I hope" Blake returned cooly. Logan stared into his eyes, he was trying to work out if he was lying. I was now convinced that this was going to start kicking off at any moment. Logan grabbed one of the beers without breaking eye contact with my mate. To be fair he was holding his own, I wasn't sure who would win in a fight. Blake had a physical advantage but this other guy looked like he would fight dirty. "Shame, I had a little job for him to do" Logan smiled, but it didn't reach his eyes. "I told you, he's not running for you any more" Blake said firmly "And you shouldn't be doing anything like that. You just got out of that s**t hole!" "You are such a goodie, goodie these days! It really doesn't suit you brother!" 'Holy s**t, another brother?' Roxy asked incredulously 'How many of these boys are there?" "Let me be clear on this Logan - You are no brother of mine. Now drink your beers and get the hell out of here." Logan scoffed, but started handing out bottles to his friends. From somewhere behind me I heard a door click shut, it was almost silent and I only caught the vibrations of the sound because of my Wolf hearing. Then, just within my peripheral vision, I noticed a movement at the back of the premises. I flicked my eyes to my right just once and saw that it was Kal. He was trying to get out of the back of Morgans without being seen. 'Christ knows how he's going to do that, it's a suicide mission' Roxy told me what I already knew. 'We're gonna have to help him Rox." I said without much enthusiasm. 'I know' she sighed. I had no idea how Kal was going to get off the pier, whether he would run or jump, I honestly had no clue. I turned to him and tried my best to convey that I was going to try and help. He looked at me in alarm and shook his head silently from side to side. 'Here we go' I said to Roxy, before scraping my chair loudly across the decking and getting to my feet. Several pairs of eyes swung in my direction, including my mates!
