Chapter Three

I started to wander back towards the small town that Jess had driven through on my way to meet my 'potential' mate. It wasn't more than a mile away and I figured that the evening air would help me get my blood pressure back down. It was one straight road but I found myself picking up the scent of the Ocean. 'Wow' I said to Roxy 'I had no idea we were this close to the sea.' 'To be fair, you did have your eyes closed for the majority of the journey here.' She replied dead pan. As I continued down the footpath I spotted an old, wooden hand painted sign with an arrow pointing me in the direction of the beach. As I was in no rush to go anywhere I took the small track and within minutes caught sight of the Ocean and the beautiful golden sands that ran parallel to it. In the not too far distance I could see a pier with some sort of eatery on it. I guess that was where I was headed. I took off my Dorothy shoes and sighed as my feet hit the sand. It felt like heaven! It was mid-June and the sun was still high in the sky. The temperature must have been around 24 degrees so the breeze coming off of the ocean was extremely welcome. I headed down towards the waters edge, lifted the longer parts of my dress and dipped my toes into the sea. I squealed when a wave hit me above the ankle, but once I was used to it the water was lovely. The walk gave me time to think. Visiting the Sea-Blue Moon Pack was one of the last packs that I had decided to visit. After that there had been two more on my list to try but they were big territories based in France. It was unlikely a Beta or a Gamma would upsticks and move to the US, plus both packs had never heard of mine, and so they would only meet me to hear what I had to say. I sighed, perhaps it was time to face facts that this just wasn't going to work. Continuing the Blood Line would be pretty easy. I could get a donor, I could adopt, there were loads of options really. But I also wanted a partner, someone to build a life with, make memories with, grow old with even. Right now that seemed really unlikely. Some guy on a surfboard started whistling at me from out in the Ocean. I looked up at him but his face held no interest for me so I just kept on walking, I was sure that the Moon Goddess loved me enough to make certain that I wasn't mated to a Moron who yelled at girls from a distance. Some other asshole he was with started to make booing noises, clearly upset that I didn't stop to chat. What an i***t! By now I could see the walkway up to the pier and got a closer look at the restaurant. It was small, and had clearly seen better days but it had an outside eating area where I could sit with a glass of wine and people watch. I still had my bottle in hand and briefly wondered if they did 'bring your own'. Only one way to find out, I supposed. I climbed up a set of wooden steps and crossed the pier towards the diner. A neon sign glowed advising me that this was 'Morgans' and a menu behind plastic casing showed me it was some sort of Italian and Burger joint. I sat down on a picnic bench, dusted the sand from my feet and put my shoes back on. Getting myself back on my feet I went through the swing door and the smell of fresh food hit me. My stomach growled in appreciation as did Roxy. It wasn't like her to get excited about the smell of Pizza, but she'd picked up on something that I had originally missed, the scent was one of cut grass and fire wood and the mix was exquisite. For a few seconds I was rooted to the spot, where was that gorgeous smell coming from? There was a glass door that led from the small foyer into the restaurant and as I pushed through my eyes homed in on where the smell was coming from. The place was completely empty with the exception of one lone male stood behind the counter with his back to me, head bent down studying something or other. I felt my insides burn up, and started to hear my pulse thrumming through my ears. Embarrassingly my heart beat started to pick up speed. It was so loud I was afraid the guy behind the bar would hear it. His frame was completely ridgid, almost like he was having the same reaction. 'Mine!' Roxy declared, as my feet started moving automatically towards the bar. The guy who's scent had caught my attention turned around to face me. He had dark brown, almost black hair and green eyes. He wore a black button down shirt which left almost nothing to my imagination. He was tall, with extremely sharp features and defined cheek bones, he was cleanly shaven and his green eyes looked like they missed absolutely nothing. He swallowed once and I was mesmerised by his adams apple as it bobbed up and down. Holy crap he was utterly mind blowing! Unfortunately he was staring at me with real contempt in his eyes. There was no smile on that beautiful face and if anything he was looking at me angrily. I wasn't entirely sure what I had done to piss Mr. Fantastic off so quickly but I was willing to do anything to make it right. I was almost at the bar, I could feel him putting out real 'f**k Off' vibes. Hostility was coming off of his body in waves and it was all aimed at me. "Hi" I greeted him. He said nothing, just nodded at me once and then stalked through a door into what I assumed was the Kitchen. 'So that didn't go very well!' Roxy mused 'You're telling me! What the hell do we do now?' I answered her with my inside voice. "Go take that girls order Kal!" I heard him shout at someone in the Kitchen. Well at least he acknowledged I was female. Result! "I thought I couldn't serve behind the bar until I was 18?" Came what I assumed was Kal's answer "Fine!" He snapped. With that he was storming back out of the door. "What'll it be?" He asked me, he was looking anywhere but my face and since I was the only customer in the building I figured the question was mine to answer. "A menu would be a great start." I replied with my best smile. He looked at me then for a couple of seconds, before pointing at a chalk board by the side of the counter. Christ this was painful. I made a show of looking at the menu, I was hungry but I was so distracted I doubted I'd taste what I was eating. "Just a burger, and a glass for my wine, if you don't mind." He cut his eyes begrudgingly at my bottle. "I don't usually do BYO but give me $100 dollars and you can drink anything you want. And the burger is 11 bucks." There was half a smile on his face now, he probably thought I couldn't afford it. I presented him with my Amex card and silently chuckled when he almost fell over. 'That'll teach you to judge' I thought to myself. "Take a seat anywhere. It'll be 10 minutes." He handed me a wine glass, corkscrew and waltzed back towards the kitchen. Charming! "I'll be outside" I called after him. He put his hand up in acknowledgment and then he was gone again.
