The night was cold and windy but the streets were as busy as ever. 7pm in Aket rang good morning for all the clubbers, con artist, smugglers and other miscreants so it was no surprise that the streets this evening was fully packed with them.
Annette alighted a cab at a building opposite the dock examining the business card in her hands, this part of the city was extremely quiet unlike the other part of the city. Taking in a deep breath she made her way to the dock, a couple of old fishing boat were lined by the dock, they all looked empty and she turned around trying to look for any form of life. Playing with the business card in her hand she walked up to the end of the dock and hopped onto one of the fishing boat, the stench of fish and cord liver oil embraced her… ignoring her newly nauseous state, she stared around the boat
“Damn it, did that bastard trick me” she hissed taking the open sea into view.
“Ah! I see you made” A husky voice spoke up from behind her and she turned to see a familiar face, Francis stood at the dock looking rather frustrated with a glass of champagne in his hand. His top two button were undone, his sleeves were rolled up and his right fist was covered with blood.
“Did you just kill someone?” Annette grinned climbing back onto the dock. Francis tilted his head and raised his brow, he was intrigued by her reaction and he smiled lightly
“Yes, he was really annoying” he took a sip of his champagne before gesturing towards a tall building that stood opposite the dock “Before you can see our main quarters you must prove yourself trustworthy” he stated leading her into the building. He inputted some codes into a security panel at the end of the door and it came open, Annette walked into beautifully designed hall really dumbfounded, no one would ever believe this was interior of the building she’d just entered…from the outside it looked like a dilapidated building ready to be pulled down but the inside was like that of a five star hotel. Annette walked into the bright hall observing every inch of the place, from the marble floor to the golden chandelier, to the beautiful leather couches that was spread around a glass table, to beautiful painting that hung on the walls and the gorgeous flower vase that held beautiful flowers. The sound of someone slapping a gum viciously called back her attention, an arrogant looking lady stood behind a counter with her hands akimbo
“Is she supposed to be here?” she asked sizing Annette who stood unperturbed by her action
“If you are so observant I thought you notice that I need a rag” Francis waved his right hand at the lady and she staggered back a bit.
“Right away sir” she noted fleeing into a room behind the counter, Annette curled her lips and turned over to Francis
“So what am I to do?” she asked watching him place the now empty glass on the counter
“This way” he led her to the elevator and swiped a keycard against the door and it came open, they both walked in and he pressed on a button labeled ground floor. Annette stared at Francis ‘there was a ground floor?' The elevator shook a bit before taking a smooth descend to the last floor. A little chime was heard as they got to the bottom and a green light lit up above the elevator door as it came open revealing some form of underground room probably were they carried out all of their transactions.
“Only a few people know about this place, it’s like a secret haven for our investors and we’d like to keep it that way” Francis stated turning over to Annette who was lost in thoughts – the only reason this part of the city was quite was because they performed their own transaction underground, a lot of people were littered around this place all wearing mask and they all headed into what looked like a disco hall while two large men stood in front of the hall, she looked over to were they had arrived from to see a dozens of other elevator shaft meaning the building she came in through wasn’t the only way down here. She felt someone approach her from behind and immediately grabbed him and flung him over her shoulder.
“Relax missy” Francis moved over to the man groaning on the floor and placed his leg on top of the man chest, grinding against his chest restricting any form air circulation, the man gasped struggling with the foot that stood on top his chest as his face turned from red to purple.
“You let your guard down” Francis grinded even harder and bent over to pick up a vail from the mans hand, Annette stared astonished as the man struggled fruitless to get Francis leg of his chest while calculating all the ways she could have easily gotten herself out of that situation. “He wanted to give you this” he handed the vail over to her, she observed the vail as she took it from his hand
“What’s it for?”
“Drink up, you’re new here so we can’t be to careful” he stated, his legs still laid upon the man's chest who had given up on his struggling already and passed out. Annette quickly uncorked the bottle and gulp down every drop liquid that laid in the vail, right now all that mattered was getting the truth about her parents death.
“Ah, I like this one” Francis grinned finally taking his leg off the young man’s chest. “This way missy” he handed her a mask and walked ahead of her into the hall. The hall was packed with people of drinking, dancing and secretly carrying out some business deals. Annette paid no attention to the environment and quietly followed Francis to a room at the end of the hall while continuously battling the urge to start up a large fight scene, that would definitely spice the place up. The door flew open and cool air embarrassed Annette and Francis as they walked in, a man dressed in black shorts, a crop top and knee high boots sat on a table with his leg crossed, he had a lot of piercing around his ears and his dazzling green eyes landed on Annette. “Wow, is that the new girl” he stated in a cool silvery tone as he hopped off the table. “I’m Leon” he stretched his hand towards her and she welcomed the warm handshake
“Annette” she replied
“Is she in?” Francis stated interrupting their peasantries and Leon nodded, he walked up to the elevator door opposite his desk and inputted his finger print.
“Another one?” Annette blurted walking up to the elevator and Leon grinned
“Going up” he gestured towards the elevator and watched as Francis and Annette walk into it.
