Waltzing through her messy apartment, Annette made her way to the kitchen counter. She actually couldn’t believe how well that worked out. Her slim fingers grabbed a can of sour cream from the counter and she casually lifted herself onto the counter while staring around the apartment for her mysterious house mate, she pulled out a bag of chips from her backpack.
“Where the hell did he run off to?” she placed the bag of chips between her teeth ripping it open still observing the room.
There’s was a gentle thud as something landed on the counter and she turned to see a white cat standing next to her… it stared at her with his mysterious eyes and she grinned
“There you are” she placed her hand in her bag again pulling out a can of fish and passing it over him. She let out a sigh while dipping a chip into the sour cream and throwing it into her mouth.
“Dock huh?” she examined the business card she’d received earlier, well aware that by 7 her life would completely change but there was no going back now. Jumping down the counter, she moved swiftly to her room which was just as messy as the rest of the apartment and pulled out her laptop… she sat on the bed placing a cigar between her lips, her fingers moved freely on the keyboard, she’d said she was a fan of the rogue committee so she needed to brush up on some information and inform Byron of her recent accomplishment – Byron Straut was a young detective at the Aket investigation bureau and quite frankly the only one who believed her.
A message popped up in her mail and she paused at the screen for a while, she definitely didn’t have lots of friends so the mail came as a shock. She clicked on her inbox, there was a mail from iamcattylona
“Who now?”
Hi, I’m Catty… you might not remember me but we met a few months ago at daylight club… can we meet soon. It’s important.
“Daylight bar?” Annette thought it through, that was a really long time ago. Some chick had pest her for her email right before she was kicked out. “ha good times” she smirked just thinking of that very day but what on earth could that Catty girl want to see her for. She closed the mail and stared out the window. It was already late so miss Catty would just have to wait.
Tossing off her shirt she headed into the shower, ready for the evening venture. She couldn’t stop thinking about what it was really like being in the rogue committee… she let the water pour freely on her skin while she stared at the odd symbol on her right palm, it’d been there ever since her parents death and she had no idea what it meant.
“Argh!” she frowned as she heard the sound of the door bell, rushing out of the bathroom she pulled a towel across her chest and headed for the door, she unlocked it and a tall young man walked in holding a bag of take out.
“Hmm something smells delicious” she stated taking the bag from his hand
“Someone looks delicious” the young man grinned staring at Annette’s exposed skin
“Stupid ass” she glared as she placed the bag of take out on the kitchen counter and the young man chuckled lightly
“So how did go?”
“I sent you a mail, can’t wait and talk… I got to be at the dock at 7”
“Wow! Wow!! Wow!!! There’s no way I’m letting you go alone… It’s too dangerous” the young man said walking up to her
“Don’t worry Byron I’ll be fine” Annette picked out a seasoned beef from the take out and threw into her mouth before heading for the bedroom
“Oh no you don’t” Byron pulled her back to himself and she held on to her towel to prevent it from falling off “You keep doing dangerous things and it terrifies me, this time I can’t let you go there alone” his voice was low and calm and he stared into Annette endless blue eyes.
“Come on, do you expect me to walk up to the dock and be like, hey Franc this is my awesome sidekick Byron?” she pulled away from him and adjusted her towel properly over her chest “I’m not a kid Byron… I’ll be fine” she smiled trying to assure him before heading into the bedroom and closing the door after her.
Byron stood restlessly at the other end of the door, he wished Annette could stop doing dangerous things just to find out the reason for her parents death. Her priority was all mixed up and he found it hard to understand what she really wanted – the truth, revenge or the both. As her friend he needed to be there for her even if it meant him accepting her crazy plans but right now he couldn’t do that, he couldn’t watch her walk into a rogue community alone. The room door finally came open and Annette walked out dressed in a combat jean and tank top “You are not going to stop me are you?” she asked placing her hand gently on his cheek and he stepped back to avoid contact with her, he knew Annette very well… she knew he was going to stop her and was going to make sure he didn’t.
“Seems like this won’t work this time” she grinned placing a small needle into her bag which hung over her shoulder.
“At least let me come with you, I’ll stay in the car… you got to text me every hour, If you don’t I’ll know that something is wrong and come in to get you” he sighed leaning against a couch
“I can think of so many reasons why that can go completely wrong… Look you’ve trusted me so many times before, what’s wrong with one more time?” she crossed her hands and tilted her head, she just couldn’t get why he was so against it. She had gotten closer than ever to the truth, he of all people should know that she’d do anything to get the truth about her parents death.
“What’s wrong is that this is nothing like you’ve done before, it’s the rogue community we’re talking about here…they are dreaded by the cops… Anne I could lose you” he croaked rubbing his hand fervently against his forehead.
“I’ll be fine I promise” she took a step closer to him “And besides I’m not the type of girl that goes down easily” she stated placing a peck gently on his cheek. Byron sighed deeply and closed his eyes, Annette had made up her mind and honestly he couldn’t stop her alone even if he tried.
“Be careful”
“I will” Annette replied and rushed out the front door.
Meow, Byron turned to see a white cat on the counter and smiled warmly “Don’t worry she’ll be fine” right now the person he was assuring the most was himself.
