Chapter 6 - TABLE FOR TWO

1392 Words
Annette sat at a desk by the entrance of an internet café and watched as young high school students trooped in. “Anne” they grinned and waved cheerfully at her and she threw her hand in the air. “You still in high school?” she teased one of the boys who seemed to be much older than the rest “Ha! Ha! Very funny Ann” he leaned against the desk and winked at her, she pulled out a brown envelope from the drawer and handed it over to him and his eyes lit up “ You’re the best Ann” he skipped cheerfully to his friends and she just watched quietly from her desk. “I thought you quit” a man in his forties walked up to her, he had on a white t-shirts stained with grease and a leather glove which he played around with. “I did, just wanted to see how things were going here and deliver a package” she stared at the man and he sighed “Hope you’re not getting yourself into any trouble” he passed his hand through his hair genuinely worried about the young lady in front of him. He’d gotten to know her through Byron and he’d gotten attached to her. She reminded him so much of his late daughter. “I’m not” she stood up and leaned over to him “You should be worried about yourself, you look really pale” “I’m good” he said tapping his hand on his chest “You need a favor don’t you?” he said carefully observing her. “As usual you know me so well” she grinned “I was wondering if you’ve heard anything about someone called Catherine Lona?” “Catty? That psycho… What’s your business with her” he raised his brow carefully watching her every move. “So you do know her?” she leaned against the desk and crossed her arm over her chest. “She’s a real wizard in the gambling world but she can be a bit off sometimes” he picked up a bottle from a fridge next to the desk and uncorked it before taking a big gulp. “Would you say she’s trust worthy, cause she wants to meet with me. I don’t know what it’s about though” Annette stated thinking of the email she’d gotten from the girl in question. “How would I know? I just know that she’s a real psycho” he said taking another gulp from the bottle. “Great… thanks for the info” Annette replied dashing out of the café before the man could stop her. “that girl is really a lot of trouble, I should tell Byron” he whispered to himself heading to the back of the desk. Annette continued her walk down the streets wondering when her “aunt” Louisa would contact her. She felt someone following her and continued to walk down the streets trying to monitor who ever it was from the side of her eyes but she couldn’t, she picked out her cell from her pocket and raised it to her face trying to see who it was from the phone screen. She squinted at the screen “Isn’t that…” she paused and turned into an empty alley and stood at the end of the alley waiting her mysterious stalker to walk in. “You could have just approached me instead of stalking me” she stated as a figure appeared in the alley “I wasn’t sure it was you” the familiar silvery voice spoke up and he walked casually towards Annette. “Louisa sent you?” “Yes, she wants to meet with you” Leon stated handing her a card. Annette read the card ‘Angels garden', it was a restaurant just across the street. She turned to Leon and nodded before placing the card casually into her pocket. Moving out of the alley she headed for the restaurant across the street, her eyes scanned through the restaurant as soon as she arrived searching for Louisa. “This way miss” a waiter stated leading her towards a fleet of stairs, she followed quietly and ascended the stairs very eager to meet with Louisa, she couldn’t wait for them to start up their mission already. As she got to the top of the stairs she saw the woman in question waving at her from a single table next to a wide window, she was dressed in a white leather pants and a turtle neck. Annette stared at her for a while before walking up to her, her gaze fell on the white fur jacket that laid over Louisa seat and she smiled lightly “You must really like fur” Louisa turned over to jacket and back Annette with a smile. “Yes I do” Annette stared at the view of the window and sighted the internet café “So you’re watching me now?” Annette stated crossing her leg on top the table, Louisa stared at her action and turned to waiter giving him a sign to leave and he did. “I need to be sure who I’m working with” she replied using a pen to push Annette’s legs off the table. “So why did you want to see me?” Annette glared at the pen, sitting properly on her seat… she crossed her right leg over the other “The humanoid clan are hosting an event tomorrow night, we can use this avenue to get more information about the killer” she replied slightly tapping her pen against the table. “I believe those event require an invitation” Annette stated, there was a brief silence as the waiter arrived the table with two glasses and a bottle of red wine. “And plus I did think you would have done that a decade ago” she added as she watched the waiter pour the wine into the glass. Louisa picked up one of the glasses and stirred it gently, taking in the sweet aroma of the wine before taking a sip and watched as the waiter took his leave. “Yes, but I wasn’t introducing the last Vladimir” she smiled lightly dropping her glass on the table “Yeah! Bait” Annette smirked and raised her glass before taking a quick sip. “Leon will deliver you an invite and some accessories for the event” “Sure thing ma’am” Annette said playing around with the glass in her hand. “Another thing, I’d like to offer you a job… in order to keep a proper eye on you if you know what I mean” Annette stared at Louisa considering her offer. “If my therapist approves” Louisa eyes widened as though she’d heard wrongly. “Therapist?” “Thought you did your research” Annette grinned pulling out a cigar from her pocket. “What do you need therapy for?” Louisa asked, Annette smiled evilly and leaned towards her. “A lot of things” Louisa cleared her throat trying to fight of the shiver she felt, the girl before her sounded as terrifying as the portfolio she’d received on her… she really needed to be careful and play her cards well, Annette wasn’t really someone she could mess around with and get away with it… she knew that much. “I’m sure your therapist wouldn’t have a problem with your job” she smiled “You’d be working as a secretary in one of my hotels” “Doesn’t quite appeal me” Annette stated, sitting down in the same place all day didn’t really sound fun in anyway. “The pay is quite intriguing” “Then I’ll consider it” she grinned standing to take her leave. “I’ll be seeing you tomorrow then” Annette gave a wave and walked down the fleet of stairs “b***h” she whispered to herself, she wondered why her plan went so well yesterday… it turns out it was because of a humanoid event was coming up. She hissed “I’ll play along with your little game” she puffed out a cloud of smoke as she existed the restaurant.
