Earlier that morning…
When Lucas arrived at the university gates he quickly got off his board and ran inside. Sweat trickled down his face and he was starting to pant as he used too much of his energy to skate as fast as he could just to arrive on time.
‘Dammit, I’m still late.’ Lucas was almost sprinting just so he could arrive at the lecture room. The halls were almost empty except for those who also arrived late.
He inwardly cursed himself for sleeping late, he didn’t want to stay after school just because he overslept.
Lucas could see the corridor that led to the room, he made a sharp turn which almost made him slip. After more running, he finally arrived at the door.
He quickly grabbed the doorknob and instantly yanked it open without thinking. It was when the door became fully opened that Lucas remembered something important.
'Today is Friday.'
‘Lecture doesn’t start till 10.’ His wolf added. It was only 8:45 in the morning when he arrived.
He froze at the completely opened door. Every eye turned toward the person who opened the door. Lucas, who was standing still, turned tomato red almost instantly. His neck, face, and ears were visibly red, it was at that moment he wished a hole would open up on the floor he was standing on and just swallow him whole.
“Did you perhaps entered the wrong room student?” the professor standing on the podium asked.
Lucas examined the room and noticed that it was a meeting, teachers, and professors were seated confused by the disruption that happened.
“I- I’m so sorry for the interruption, ah I’ll head out now.” Lucas stammered. He calmly closed the door with a smile to show he wasn’t embarrassed about the situation he was in which was not convincing as his blushing face became a dead giveaway of what he was truly feeling.
Lucas ran away from the place like he was being chased. He continued to run until he arrived at the park and sat on the bench where Michael found him sulking.
…
Lucas has never been in such a situation before that was the reason why he found it hard to let Michael know or even anyone know about this.
‘I just hope the teachers and professors that witnessed it won’t spread it.’ He said to himself.
Time flew by quickly and the lectures were already over. Both friends, Lucas and Michael, decided to go to the city.
They walked side by side along the path that leads to the exit gates of the university.
Their pack as well as the neighboring packs were located not too far from the city. Werewolves from those packs would often visit the city to go to malls, bars, beaches or to do the things they needed to do. The city’s population mostly consisted of humans, it was not part of a pack's territory and it was protected by an organization that they call 'The Union'.
The Union is made up of ten prominent elders from different packs and ten influential humans from the city. They protect the city and the citizens from harm and disputes. They maintain peace and order throughout the land.
The neighboring packs are five packs in total. The Moon Lake Pack, the Bayanihan Pack, the Red Moon Pack, the Crescent Moon Pack, and last but not the least is the Silvercrest Pack. Both Lucas and Michael belong to the Crescent Moon Pack, which is led by their Alpha Aiden Wills. He was an intelligent and kind-hearted man in his 30s.
Lucas together with Michael traveled all the way to the city using their skateboards. They zoomed past the highway, they dodged vehicles, mailboxes, trash cans, fire hydrants, and cracks on the road until they reached the place they wanted to visit.
They stopped in front of an ice cream shop located at the center of the city, close to the city park. They went inside and a sense of nostalgia immediately hit them. The walls were the same, the tables and chairs were arranged like the last time they had visited this place.
“This brings back a lot of memories,” Michael said to Lucas as they sat at the seat close to the window that overlooked the park.
“Yeah, it does,” Lucas remembered how they would always come to this place every time they would have some kind of misunderstanding.
Every time they fought they would talk it out at this place, in the same spot they were seated in, and when they compromise they would order ice cream and go to the park after.
It may seem weird and stupid for others but this was how they do it.
“Boys it’s been so long since you both visited this place!” Lucas and Michael both turned their heads in the direction of the voice.
After seeing who it was their eyes instantly lit up and soft smiles bloomed on their faces.
“Mrs. Dorothy!” they simultaneously said.
A sweet-looking elder woman hurriedly approached their table with a doting smile plastered on her aging face. Lucas and Michael stood up from their sits and they were both engulfed in a bone-crushing hug.
“How many times do I have to tell you kids to call me grandma!” she scolded. "The two of you are like my grandkids now."
"Of course grandma we were only teasing you," Michael said to her. Mrs. Dorothy chuckled at their mischievousness.
She synchronized the two boys or should she say men and couldn't help but sigh. 'These kids have grown so much already.'
Mrs. Dorothy was a human who was sweet and kind-hearted. Her husband had unfortunately passed away due to health complications years ago. They had one son who was already married and a daughter who was married to her job. Her son and daughter-in-law had been trying to produce a child but so far there was no result.
That was why when she saw the two boys inside her shop, she instantly harbored a liking towards them. Both boys were polite and sweet which made her treat them like her grandkids.
"Alright alright, you two get comfortable I will fetch you something to eat. It will be on the house."
Lucas and Michael wanted to refuse but the elderly insisted saying it was because they had not visited for a long time which did not make sense to them. They tried to stop her but eventually, both friends sat back down defeated by the stubborn Mrs. Dorothy.
