Chapter 12: Jinxed

1025 Words
"Uh... are you sure about this Luke?" Michael asked Lucas when they arrived at the top of the hill. The hill was located somewhere close to the lake. The lake was surrounded by tall trees and there wasn't any path that leads directly to the hill. Both friends walked through the forest until they found the unfinished road that was sitting on top of the hill. The origin of the unfinished road was still unknown to this day. It starts from the topmost part of the hill and ends at another pack's territory. Lucas was tying his shoelaces in case they would come loose while skating down. He did not want to go rolling down the hill as a result. "Yeah, I just want to try this. It'll be fun." He replied to Michael's earlier question.  "I don't know how getting hurt is fun for you." Michael was looking at a flower while replying to his friend. "You're not a masochist right?" He whipped his head to look at Lucas with wide eyes.  In turn, Lucas gazed at Michael with a glare, "Tsk, why do you guys always assume that's the case, I just like doing things that are thrilling." He then dropped his board on the ground and started to move.  Although reluctant, Michael still followed behind Lucas. Both friends smoothly went down the hill together. It weather wasn't too sunny, puffy clouds were painted on the sky. It was the perfect weather to do outdoor activities. Michael looked at Lucas who looked like an excited child during Christmas. His eyes lit up and he adorned a silly smile on his face that made him look charming.  Seeing Lucas act like this made Michael unknowingly smile too. 'I hope you keep smiling like that.' Michael looked away from Lucas and focused on the road. Meanwhile, the wind was blowing on Lucas's face but it wasn't strong enough to wipe off the smile on his face. 'This is nice.' He was happy.  He was wearing a black shirt topped with a checkered jacket that was longer in length. It was fluttering together with the wind. At this moment, Lucas thought that if ever he would get hurt, he would not regret making this decision. It was a smooth ride so far when suddenly, he was flung off his board. "F***." "Oh sh*t, Lucas!" Lucas quickly positioned his body to fall safely to avoid major injuries. He continued rolling down the hill receiving cuts and bruises during the process. He continued to roll for a couple more seconds and when it got slower he then brought his palms out and slapped them on the ground, completely stopping his body from going further. Lucas laid on the ground with his back. He was panting hard and his heart hasn't stopped beating fast since his fall. His forehead received a cut causing blood to drip down, his hands and palms also had cuts on them.  'You jinxed it.' He heard his wolf say to him. He couldn't find the time to reply as he was trying to stabilize his breathing.  Michael had seen the moment Lucas was flung from his board and witnessing the incident terrified him so much. He quickly got off his board and ran towards his friend. "Lucas! Are you okay?" Michael wanted to slap himself for asking. 'Of course, he's not okay, are you dumb?'  He kneeled beside his friend and fussed about the injuries that Lucas received. "Pffft." Lucas couldn't help but burst out laughing when he thought about the incident. Michael was confused about how the person that just fell and is now bleeding, can still laugh about it.  "What are you laughing for?! Look at you, you're bleeding!!" Michael was distressed and he couldn't help but raise his voice at Lucas. "I'm fine Michael don't worry. Come on help me up." Lucas reassured the worried friend in front of him. He raised both his hands towards Michael. Despite Lucas's reassurance, Michael can't help but still feel angry and worried for Lucas. He didn't want to help Lucas as he wanted to punish his friend this way, he looked away with a humph and crossed his arms across his chest. When Lucas saw this he could only shake his head. 'Ah, he must have been worried for me.'  'Of course, he would be, you idiot.' even his wolf scolded him. Lucas was grateful though, he was grateful for having people that care for him and his well-being. He struggled to stand up but then a hand stretched in front of his face. Lucas smiled and took the hand. Michael helped Lucas up and supported him by wrapping his arm around Lucas's waist. They walked together toward a tree and decided to rest under its shade.  "Thank you." Michael could only give up being angry at him. He took something from his jean pocket and started cleaning the bleeding wounds.  "Why are you so reckless?! I'm never allowing you to do this sh*t again." Lucas just silently listened to Michael's scolding while he cleaned his wounds. "Did you see what caused the fall?" After Michael finished cleaning the blood, his wounds started healing. "It was a small rock. We should've at least checked the place out before going down on a board." Lucas nodded, agreeing to what Michael had said. "Wait, where'd my board go?" They both stood up to look for Lucas's board. "I didn't really notice where it we- Oh wait! There it is!" Michael pointed at where he saw the board. The two went to where Michael pointed and saw it. It was hanging on a tree branch that was located on steep terrain. "This is ridiculous." Michael grabbed his hair out of frustration. "Michael, come here help me with this." The skateboard was only an arm's length away from them but that wasn't the problem, it was the steep terrain that leads to another pack's territory.  'If they fall... No, don't jinx it!' Michael held Lucas to prevent him from falling. Yet they did not realize they were going with what fate had planned for the both of them.
