Chapter 3: Close to Kissing

1028 Words
"Haven't I told you to stay in the house, Lucas?" said the boy. "But brother you said we were going to play together." said the little kid to the boy, tears started to gather up in his eyes. He looked so cute with his chubby cheeks and features, his doe eyes added more to his cuteness. Looking at his brother like this, he couldn't help but give up. He was supposed to be with hanging out with his friends but he didn't want to leave his brother when he was already like this.  He took his little brother's tiny hands and walked with him along the streets. They greeted the nice old ladies along with the neighborhood that always gives them cookies.  On their way to the house, he felt someone tug at his hands. He looked at his brother who was already craning his neck to look at him. "What is it?" Lucas had his eyes closed but he felt someone hovering over him. "This is the first time I saw this mole on your cheek." Lucas felt someone poke his cheek and the voice was so close he could feel the breath splashing unto his face, he couldn't help but open his eyes to look at the person who spoke.  Their faces were a few inches apart but if others would take a glance at them it would look like they were about to kiss. Lucas looked at the person, "Move your face idiot." Michael didn't listen to Lucas instead he did the opposite, he moved his face closer to Lucas. "You're actually pretty cute."  Lucas lost the remaining patience to deal with Michael's antics so he did what he thought was the best course of action to deal with the situation. THUD! "Ah!" Michael didn't expect Lucas to do that. He rubbed his throbbing forehead and looked at Lucas like he was wronged. "Wtf dude, why would you do that?! Ah!" Michael moved away from Lucas and plopped down on the bench beside him. "What sort of material is your head made of?!"  'Lucas actually head-butted me!' he cried inside his heart. 'Why is his head so hard?' "I already told you to move away but you did the opposite. That's what you get for doing that." Lucas said without an ounce of guilt in his tone. Michael glimpsed at his friend's face. When he saw Lucas, he had a faraway look etched on his face it was as if he was thinking about a distant memory. Michael knew. He knew his friend was thinking about the past.  He quickly tried to think of a way to divert Lucas' attention. "Let's go to the skate park." as soon as he said that Michael yanked Lucas from the bench and together they went to the nearest skatepark. Lucas knew why Michael did that and he was thankful he had a friend to be by his side. The both of them weren't exactly childhood friends, they became classmates but they were strangers to each other and never really got close. In their third year, however, they instantly became the best of friends.  Whenever they were asked about how they became friends, they would answer along the lines of 'it just happened' or 'I don't really know.' It hasn't been long since they became friends but they felt like they have known each other for so long. Strangers would often mistake them for brothers, although they aren't brothers by blood they think of each other like real brothers. They would have each other's backs and would cover for each other when one of them asks.  Of course, they would have fights and misunderstandings, it's normal but they would resolve it as soon as they could.  ... At the skate park, Lucas and Michael were fooling around with a bunch of their friends who arrived earlier than them. Turns out they were invited by Michael. Lucas looked at his friends and couldn't help but feel thankful, especially to Michael.  His mood brightened up significantly. To those who weren't familiar with him would think nothing changed but to Michael, he was relieved seeing that his friend's somber mood finally disappeared. Lucas grabbed his board and jumped on it. He directed it to a flat rail and slid on it, he succeeded although not flawlessly as he struggled on keeping his balance. He continued to push with his left leg and went around ramps, stairs, and handrails.  The sun has started to set and casts a brilliant red and orange mixture in the sky. At this time, the bunch of friends had already left to go home. Lucas, Michael, and four other skaters were the only ones left in the skate park.  Lucas was still moving around the park and Michael sat on one of the benches while watching his friend.  He never once thought he would step foot on a skateboard all his life, never has he been interested in doing anything that involves too much physical work. Yes, he's a werewolf but a lazy one, and he mostly preferred staying inside his comfortable room to play games or read novels and manga's in his free time. The one who introduced skateboarding to him was someone he highly admired. He was a warrior, a brave pack warrior who fought for their safety and territory till his last breath.  Back then, the packs weren't as peaceful. One pack was ruled by a ruthless and tyrant Alpha, he was greedy and thirsty for power. He wanted all werewolves to kneel before him.  Fear engulfed everyone.  Each pack decided to send out a batch of their strongest warriors to put an end to the tyrant Alpha.  The total warriors from each pack added up to 200. They charged with one thought etched in their hearts and minds. 'They would be finally free and live without fear.' Eventually, they won.  The news was sent out back to the packs and everyone who heard the news erupted into joy and celebrated for they were finally free from the evil Alpha's clutches.  However, the joy did not last long as it was then replaced by sorrow.
