Chapter 2: Brother

1101 Words
"Turns out the hair that the school director always boasts about was just a wig, HAHAHA" Michael laughed after saying this, and the calm Lucas couldn't help but chuckle with him. After that incident, they were sent to detention and were given cleaning duty after school for three days. Soon after the bell rang indicating the start of classes.  The both of them stood up and went in different ways as they didn't have a class together in the morning. Lucas arrived just in time for the discussion to start, he went inside greeted the professor, and sat at his seat which was located at the last column right by the window.  The discussion started and Lucas was determined to listen intently but somewhere in the middle his mind started to wander around... "Mr. Davis!" Hearing the professor mention him, Lucas scrambled to collect his thoughts.  "Yes sir!" as he stood up that was when he noticed that everyone has just left and the only people inside the room were the professor and him. He scratched his nape and gave the professor a sheepish smile.  Sighing the professor looked at Lucas disapprovingly and said, "Detention after school." then he walked away with his things. Lucas wanted to refute but the professor shot him a glare before exiting. He stood inside the room with a distant look in his eyes, 'Stupid.' his wolf said. He mentally rolled his eyes and proceeded to pack his things. ... Lunchtime came and went. The two friends, Lucas and Michael, walked the hallways oblivious to the stares that were directed at them.  One of the stares belonged to the seething school director. He couldn't forget about the incident that caused him to be humiliated in front of the school, now he couldn't even walk confidently like before. Every stare would directly point at his beautiful hair and instead of receiving a compliment, they would instead burst into giggles and chuckles.  Sniff... sniff, 'My gorgeous days are gone...' The school director was crying rather pitifully inside.  'Best to avoid those evil incarnates.' And so he did. Whenever he would cross paths with those two, he would immediately walk in the opposite direction or be at least 4 meters away from them. ... Lucas just got out from detention and was walking down a path that leads to the university gates. He turned to a corner and heard two people talking to each other in hush voices. One voice was clearly angry and the other sounded on the verge of crying. He was about to walk away from it when he heard someone being slammed against the lockers and a whimper that came afterward.  Lucas stopped and went to the corridor where he heard the noises from. He wasn't the type to interfere in someone else's business but when the situation escalates he couldn't just stand and pretend nothing was happening. As he got closer to the scene, the more he heard the contents of their conversation. "...can't..." "...please"  "We can work this out."  "I can't f****** believe this!" When Lucas got to the scene he saw two people, one was frustrated and anger was evident on his face but there were traces of other unexplainable emotions written in his eyes. The other one was squeezed between the lockers and the angry wolf, hurt, longing and fear can be seen on his features. Lucas had a vogue idea of what was happening as he saw this scene. The two must have been too invested in their thoughts that they didn't notice someone was approaching them.  "I can't do this!" said the taller one. "Alex, are you going to reject me?" the shorter one couldn't hold back his tears as he thought about this possibility. The one called Alex became flustered when he saw his mate crying, he regretted his actions almost immediately. He couldn't hold back and pulled the other wrapping his arms around him in the process. All frustration and anger he felt subsided the moment his mate was in his embrace. "I said I couldn't do it but that doesn't mean I wouldn't try." Alex moved his mate to face him and wiped the tears from his face. "You are my mate, Theo, my beloved. I just got surprised that was all. I'm sorry if my outburst hurt you." Theo sniffled and moved back unto Alex's embrace. "It comes as a shock to us so let's take things slow. Is that okay for you?" Theo nodded his head and answered a soft 'yes' while his face was buried on Alex's chest.  It was at this moment that they finally noticed someone else's presence in the corridor with them. They both turned to look at Lucas who was looking at them with an unfathomable expression on his face, no one knew what he was thinking at the moment. The pair became flustered that someone witnessed the exchange between them and they scrambled to fix their messy appearance. Alex was about to say something when Lucas beat him to it. "I'm sorry for intruding I was worried someone was fighting when I heard the lockers slam," Lucas told them with a slight smile, there was not a single trace of the expression he had before.  "Don't worry it's fine, we just had a little misunderstanding that's all," Theo said to Lucas. "Rest assured I wouldn't tell anyone. Goodbye then." The couple said their goodbyes to Lucas and made a move to leave too. Lucas found himself unable to focus so when he got to the gate he walked instead of riding his skateboard. He didn't want to get in an accident and make his mom worry because of his carelessness.  While he was walking his mind was filled with scrambled-up thoughts. He couldn't concentrate on anything and it was starting to give him a headache. He went to a park nearby and plopped down on an empty bench. He looked around the park and saw two kids who just entered the park. "Brother!" shouted the smaller one as he chased after his brother. "Brother!" a kid around 5 years old was running with his tiny legs, trying to keep up with the person he called 'brother'.  The 'brother', who was 10 years old, stopped and turned around. He faced the 5-year-old with a look of annoyance on his face.  The 5-year-old kid did not expect the sudden halt of movements causing him to bump into the boy. A sigh escaped his lips before he spoke to the kid. "Haven't I told you to stay in the house, Lucas?"
