PARKER POV
I couldn’t stop thinking about Felicity’s fears during training today. I hate to admit it, but I fear the same things. It doesn’t matter how much training you've got; someone might have more. They might be smarter, faster, better than you, but I refuse to be unprepared.
The information that we have currently is extremely limited and I think that is the scariest part. We don’t know where they are hiding, we don’t know if they are using our kind against us, we know virtually nothing. How am I supposed to protect my family, my fellow wolves, even myself without more to go off of.
I am thankful to be supervising a group of really amazing warriors. While this issue doesn’t apply to them directly, they train just as hard. They are willing to fight with us. My team knows that I have the ability to heal them in the event that they would need it, and I think that brings relief to them.
Alpha Kai is meeting with a few of our allies, looking for anyone with information on the human hunters. We need anything that would give us the upper hand whenever they do come to find us. Or we happen to take this fight to them. Up until recently, we were under the impression that humans were blissfully unaware of our existence. We’ve heard of people writing stories and spreading their ideas, but most call them conspiracy theorists. Occasionally, the moon goddess will pair a human with a wolf, but it is very rare, and they are sworn to secrecy upon learning about our kind.
Training has been grueling today. I’ve put my warriors through the ringer. Running and fighting in both human and wolf form.
“Could I have everyone’s attention?” I yelled over the group. Everyone crowded in front of me, sitting down from exhaustion.
“First and foremost, I can’t tell you all how proud I am. We have come so far as a team. You all come here every day and give 110 percent effort. For that, I thank you.”
An eruption of cheers and claps come from the warriors. I put a hand up to silence them. After it quiets down, I begin again. “As most of you are aware, Alpha Kai is out meeting with our allies to gain any information on other wolves with special abilities as well as any information that can help us against our enemy. We have to take this threat seriously. You might think that this is a problem for only my family, but there are wolves all over the world with special abilities. This is war on our kind and we will not stand for it. I know I will not stand for it. I plan to fight. For every wolf!” I yell.
“FOR EVERY WOLF” multiple warriors yell with their fists raised in the air.
Pride swells through me looking at my crew. These people trust me with their lives. They follow me as I lead them.
Smiling, I continue “We will continue to train as we have been until we learn new information. As always, I appreciate your support. That is it for today. You all can go home to your families.” A few more cheers erupt before the crowd starts to dissipate.
Morgan approached me after the crowd cleared. “How is Felicity?” she questioned.
I smiled “She’s doing great. Almost finished with school. Our pup is healthy and loves bacon, like her dad.”
She rolled her eyes, fighting a smile. “While I’m glad she has your love for bacon, that’s not what I meant. How is she holding up with this threat looming over?”
I took a deep breath “Honestly, I don’t know. She broke down a bit earlier thinking about everything, but overall, she has been mostly quiet about it.”
Morgan furrowed her brows “You should talk to her. While I fight alongside you, this doesn’t affect me the way that it does you and Felicity. I can’t imagine what you all are going through.”
I nodded, understanding what she was saying. “I will make sure to keep a close eye on her and keep our line of communication open. She doesn’t need any stress while she’s pregnant.”
Morgan gave me a sad smile, clapping me on the back before walking away. She was right. This was stressful without a pup involved, but I need to make sure that Felicity knows that she and Lena are safe. At least I hope they are.
We will keep our pup safe, Ash said with conviction.
Thinking of my beautiful mate brings me peace. I would happily give my life if it meant her and our pup were safe.
I walked slowly towards the packhouse to eat after today’s training. My mind was spinning. I just want to focus on having a happy, healthy pup and worshipping my beautiful mate.
I never imagined that one day I would be faced with someone trying to hunt me. At least not humans with ulterior motives.
I sighed, wishing that my mother and father were still alive. While they would also be hunted, they would at least have some information on our family and our past. My mother always told me People fear what they don’t understand, but this had nothing to do with fear. This was control. They wanted to control us. Use us for monetary gain. It was sick. We are not slaves. We are just like humans in so many ways.
Opening the door to the packhouse, I’m blasted with ice cold air. After training and taking a long walk afterwards, the air feels heavenly. I’m greeted by a few omegas working in the kitchen. Two of them I recognize as mates to warriors, waving to them on my way to the refrigerators. I grabbed a bottle of water and prepackaged turkey sandwich, heading to an empty seat in the dining area.
As soon as I sat down, I received a mind link from Alpha Kai, I’ve arrived back on pack lands. Meet me at the packhouse in ten minutes to discuss my findings.
My heart started beating quickly. The Alpha wasn’t supposed to be back for two more days. Already here, I will be waiting in your office.
I quickly scarfed down my sandwich and finished the bottle of water in a few gulps. I took the steps two at a time, unable to fight the anxiety that was forming.
I entered his office, sitting on the couch across from Kai’s desk and waiting for his arrival. I felt Ash pacing in my head. His nerves starting to make me nervous.
