Chapter 4

KATY "Are you married?" "What?"  I took my time to stare down at the woman for any once of joke but neither could I find any slight joke or playfulness on her face. I should know what I'm getting myself into by now. It's either I get this job or spend the rest of my life unemployed. Gathering all my strength, I took in a deep breath before giving her my answer. "Yes" I uttered tight lipped. Amy is going to freak out when she hears it.  For a moment, I saw her face lossen at my answer. Why is that so? Does being married matters to them a lot. "Miss Trent, you're hired welcome to SG company. You just need to fill out the required papers and you're good to go" My mouth was left open as I stared at the woman, settling some papers in front of me. "Just like that?" I asked my eyes going left to right. I might be eager to get this job, yet, I need to know what I'm getting myself into. Just in case.  The room suddenly filled up with her laughter and she puff out yet another smoke out of my mouth. "Miss Katy, you have nothing to worry about. We have the best service that we offer our staffs. You-" I immediately cut her off.  The woman is not getting straight to the point. "I understand your point but what I want to know is what type of job it is? I mean why is it only for the married?" I voiced out.  This time around, a smile made it way out of her mouth as she lean over, folding her hands together. "You see, we are travel and tours company. I bet you know what that means. And for the marriage something, we recently had some scandal that almost shut down our company"  My brows raised in question at her words. "If I may ask, what was the scandal?" "One of the staffs fleed with a client that was supposed to go on a tour with his fiancee. That is why we don't want to hire any staffs that are single" How could someone do that. "I know right? How could someone do that" The woman interjected.  "Yet I don't blame her. Maybe he felt the spark with her instead of his fiancee. Sometimes our hearts work on their own. But it's all in the past" I could feel some meaning behind her words. She said it calmly.  "So, Miss Katy, will you accept the job? It's your choice,  I won't force you"  My mind wandered to my poor sister and our mom. If I get this job, I would be able to take care of some things.  A little lie won't be bad. Besides, it's not like they're going to ask me to introduce my husband. As far as I act based on the situation, then I'm good to go. I just hope I made the right choice. "Yes I will" I answered after much thought. Lying for once won't hurt right? A smile grace through the woman's face. For some reason, I found her smile weird. Why would she be happy about me accepting the job?  "You made the right choice Miss Trent. What you have to do now is fill this staff form" she passes me a white paper with Staff form written in bold atop it. "Go through it and fill out the required space. After that, Michelle will explain your required work" The woman light up another cigarette. Isn't she afraid of health problems? At her age she might encounter some health issues.  Snapping myself out of the small reverie I went off to, I focus back my attention on the white paper in front of me. Reading through it. I filled out my personal information area, my education background and when it was time to fill out the husband or spouse space, I halted. How should I do it without getting noticed? First of all, I need his name, his details, and his number. From where will I start adding things up.  I stared at the paper for almost two minutes before coming to a decision. As Darnell always says,  go with the flow. So I will just go with the flow. I just hope it'll work out like I expected. Reaching for the pen once again, I scribble the details, my heart thumping in it's ribcage. Even my heart is going against me. However, I've already made my choice. There's no going back.  Without another glance at the details, I forwarded it back to the woman. She adjusted her glasses before going through it. Squinting her eyes every now and then. Maybe trying to access any suspicious part. Yet, I know I wrote it in such a way that she won't be able to notice any hole in my lie. "John Lucas" She read out her brows rising. I was quick in answering letting out a fake smile. "Yes that's him. John Lucas" I know she must find the name weird. I mean where the hell did I mix up a name like that. John looked so old fashioned. As if she read out my mind, she let out the exact word I was saying in my head. "He must be one piece of a gentleman. I can see he's not a young man. His name doesn't go in rhythm with his age. 28. Anyways, let me not waste your time. I will just alert Michelle and she'll explain the rest of the work to you" "Thank you Mam" "Mention not Miss Trent. It's an honor to have you working for us. And don't worry your salary won't be delayed. Oh...." she smacked her palms on her mouth which got my eyebrows raised. "Is everything okay?" I asked. "I forgot the most important thing. We haven't discuss about the p*****t. We pay our staff on twentieth of every month. Sounds good right?" "Yeah. It sure does. So when am I to start work?" I asked to brush off any more question from her. "You start tomorrow. Be at the office by eight thirty sharp"
