Landen got up from his swiveling office chair to run to the bathroom. He drank a pot of coffee each night at work. He grabbed the Kevlar vest on his way to the restroom.
Seraphina had insisted that he put the bullet proof vest on while at work at the radio station. It was a little snug and heavy. He did as he was told. He knew Sera wouldn't insist on it, if she didn't have a good reason.
Landen sat down in his chair and spun around to grab his head set. "You are listening to the madman himself, Lando! on WKLOVE. We are rocking the eighties tonight. Up next, get ready for some MJ, yes we are, we are going there-Thriller anyone?"
The phone line rang. "Your the next caller, what can I play for you?" The caller said, "How bout you play a Jim Castle favorite, talking heads. "Landen said, "I feel ya, what song are you thinking?"
The caller said, "Oh, how about psycho Killer, fa fa fa fa fa." He laughed and Landen felt a chill run down his spine. He hung up the phone. The line lit up again.
"This is Lando, what can I play for you tonight?" It was the same man. "Oh, I know how about this one, Stone cold crazy by ca,ca, ca, ca, Queen." He laughed in a high shrill. Landen ended the call. The line lit up again.
He answered it without saying a word. "Jimmy Castle wouldn't play, maybe he had to die for that. Maybe Lando will play the game," Landen ended the call. The line lit up again.
Landen yelled," Quit calling -we are done with this game!" Seraphina said, "Landen, what's wrong? I had a bad dream so I decided to check on you, are you wearing it?"
He said, " Hell yes! I'm not taking it off." Sera said, "Good, I need to tell you something." He interupted and said, "This guy keeps calling me, he is asking me to play weird songs, he said something about Jim Castle not playing the game, s**t I'm freaking the freak out over here!"
Sera nodded, listening. She put her hand to her head and nodded. Landen said, "what is it, tell me." She quietly said, "This man is pure evil, for some reason he wants you dead."
"Am I going to die Seraphina?" He sounded scared. She said, "That's why I sent you the vest. Shot, in the back " He sighed. "I guess I need to call someone, like the police."
She said, "Hard to trust anyone there right now, trust me though. Don't take the vest off. You can stay with my parents. I think my dad can help you. He is a doctor by trade but a sleuth by hobby.
Here, call him in the morning , she gave him her father's phone number. Landen, we are heading on a trip tomorrow." He said, "Who's we?" She said, "My husband and I."
"You married him already," She said, "he tricked me. But I tricked him too. I got him drunk tonight so I could have my way with him, he passed out. I went too far."
Landen said, "Then you love him?" She laughed, "Who wouldn't, have you seen him clean shaven, it's a thing. He is GQ." Landen laughed. "You make me feel like I'm missing everything."
She said," By the way, I have a girl coming your way, she needs a job. She is real good at organization, her name is Diane, you should call her Annie though.
She needs help finding her brother. She just found out that she was adopted and most of her blood family are deceased. She only has a big brother left now, her brother needs her to find him.
He said, "I'm confused now. What can I do to help her? I need to find her only relative left alive that needs her to find him?" Sera said," I'm too tired to stay awake any longer, it's cold in the shower."
He laughed, "Why are you in the shower?"
"I don't want to wake my husband up, he's grumpy if he doesn't get his sleep." Landen had felt better after he spoke with Sera. He told her good night and she said she would call when she got to where they were going.
He didn't ask her where that was. Sera hung up the phone and went back to bed. She wasn't going to remember much of that conversation.
She did know that Diane needed her big brother, she also knew that her brother physically needed her. She was a perfect match for a kidney replacement. She would save his life physically and he would save hers emotionally.
Sera drifted off to sleep and dreamed of her wedding. She twisted the diamond earring that he had given her. Blaze whispered to her Mine forever.
She sighed in her sleep. It was everything she ever wanted.
Blaze turned over in bed, he was dreaming himself. He saw her scream, he tried to get to her. She was reaching her hand out to him now. He tried to grab it, it was just out of reach. He saw a fire in her eyes, it was a blue flame. She was being sucked into another world.
They made her crazy. They pushed her too far. She lost control. They tried to harness her power to use it for their own gain.
He saw a needle go into her arm. They drugged her with truth serum. They gave her a sedative and put probes on her head. She wanted to die. It was killing her.
Blaze sat up in bed, he cried out. Sera was sleeping quietly next to him. She was safe. He would hide her from those demons. He would go to hell himself to protect her. He didn't understand any of it, but he trusted that she wasn't safe yet.
He hoped that marrying Sera would protect her from the demons. He needed to make her his true wife so when she needed him he could reach her mind and pull her out of the deep state she would go into.
He looked at her a long time, he wasn't able to sleep. Sera pulled Blaze close to her back side. She subconsciously felt his eyes on her back. She moved a tendril of her opulent white light over him. She slowly gave him the peace that he needed to sleep. She slowed his beating heart into unison with her own. She spoke these words to him in her mind, sleep my love, sleep my love, sleep. She felt him jerk, then settle into the nook of her body, spooning against her. He was the big spoon.
