Are We Going To Die?

~ Amaris POV ~

So, the Vampires finally decided to show their real face. I knew that they were backstabbing people, but why did they suddenly decide to attack us?

It’s not like I am worried for anyone, but I can’t allow them to hurt Sophia.

She is the only family that I have left and she is the only one who cares for me if I am alive or dead.

For her, I am ready to face anything and even those cold ones. I can’t see Sophia suffering by their hands, but where should I hide her? 

No, I need to first go and check what is the current situation out there. I know that I might get into trouble, but I am ready to do this for Sophia.

I will just go and check if the situation is alright or if it has become dire.

I know that my condition is not so good, but I have to risk it not only for Sophia but also for myself. I can’t just give up on my life, can I?

I have bear all their atrocities till today for some reason and I can’t allow any random vampire to waltz in and destroy my hard work.

“What! No... no... what should we do, Amaris? How are we going to escape the Vampires? They will kill everyone.

They are known to be ruthless, but why did they suddenly decide to attack our kingdom? We were not on good terms, but it was not so bad that they started a war against us.

Are we going to die?”, Sophia asked me in a stuttered tone whilst she was looking at me with a panicked look on her face.

Sophia is always scared of wars and battles. I know the reason for her panicking, but nothing can be solved or changed if we only sit here and prayed.

God only helps those who help themselves. That is something which my mother told me when I was a kid. I always believed my mother’s words.

I need to calm Sophia otherwise, she will get panic-stricken. She looks way too frightened.

“Shush! Calm down, Sophia. No one is going to hurt us, alright? I will never allow anyone to harm you in any manner.

I will do everything in my power to protect you. Even if I have to put my life on the line, I am ready to do that”, I told her in a calm voice while I kept my hands on her shoulders.

Sophia then took a long breath whilst she nodded her head at me. The maid who told us the news dashed towards the other chambers to tell the same thing to everyone.

“What do you think, Amaris? Why did the vampire prince suddenly decide to attack us?

I don’t know-how if the father going to face him or how he is going to win against that tyrant”, Sophia said to me whilst she was fidgeting.

I am sure that she is scared out of her wits because we all have heard the stories of that Vampire prince’s and how he tortures his captives.

“I don’t want to become one of the victims of his bloodlust and neither do I want to see him tormenting you in any way.

Why don’t we just hide where that prince or his army won’t be able to find us”, she asserted to me with a scared expression on her face.

No, I can’t hide for now. I have to go to the forest. I am sure that they must be coming from that area.

I need to be very careful or I might lose my life. My backs are still stinging, but I can’t tell her this otherwise, she will get needlessly worried for me.

I glanced at her and then I told her in a low voice with a sad smile on my face, “I promise that I won’t let anything happen to you, Soph.

I know that you are scared of darkness and blood, but you need to stay strong. You can hide in the dungeon. I don’t think that they will go to that place. You will be safe there, alright?”

I got up from the bed with some difficulty, but the moment, I thought to go out of the room, Sophia held me by my wrist and asked, “Where are you going right now? There is danger out there. Are you out of your mind!

Do you even know the consequences of your stupid actions, Amaris? What can do, huh? Will you be able to stand against that Vampire prince?

You are not immortal or powerful as them. I know that these words may sound harsh from my mouth, but that’s the reality, isn’t it?

You are just a weak girl who is not capable to stand against anyone. You don’t need to risk your life for anyone.”

I know this is all my great aunt’s teaching.

I am sure that she was afraid that if someday Sophia showed her rebellious, she won’t be able to control her then and that’s why she thought her since childhood that girls need to be protected and they are not capable enough to stand for themselves.

There is always some knight in shining armour who will come for the rescue, but for me, all of the teachings were only a load of bullshit and nothing else.

I am not someone who will wait to get rescued.

I might be weak, but I am not some helpless damsel in distress. I can be my own Knight.

There is always someone who will try to pull you down, but it’s up to us if we want to stay with the rest or if we want to rise above all.

I know that Sophia is worried for me, but I can’t let her concern become one of the paving stones in my way.

“I am not risking my life for anyone, Soph. I am risking it for us. You just stay here and I will be back soon. I promise.

So, stop getting worried, will you? Who knows there might be a way to get away from all of this. 

Just trust me, alright?”, I told her with a smile and after that, Sophia let go of my wrist without saying anything.

She only nodded and embraced me in a tight hug before she headed towards the dungeon.

I was standing alone in her chamber and when I looked at my reflection in the mirror a sad smile appeared on my face.

‘Let’s go to that dark forest’,  I muttered to myself in a low voice and after that, I slid my fingers on the mirror.

My face is bruised and so is my back. The blood has been dried up, but I can still feel the pain. 

These scars that you have given me today is something that will always remind me of your love and care that you have shown me till now, my dear aunt Emma.

I then changed my clothes and covered my body with a black robe. I don’t want anyone to recognise my face otherwise, I will be in great trouble.

Thereupon, I headed out of the Palace. Thankfully no one noticed me as there was an uproar in the Palace because of the Vampires attack.

They all were too busy and that’s why nobody noticed me which is a good thing for me.

I silently walked out of the main door. The guards who were standing at the door tried to stop me, but I showed them one of the queen’s maid identity document which I stole while they were chattering.

The guards didn’t ask me any question when they saw the document and after that, no one stopped me. I went out of the Palace without any hassle.

Finally, I am out of that cage. It’s good to have fresh air sometimes. After getting out of that place, I started to head towards the dark forest.

I don’t know, but for some reason whenever I come across this forest, I just want to explore it more. It’s like, it’s calling me or should I say that this forest kind of attracts me?

Whatever the reason is, but not even once, I felt scared of this place. It’s like, l can regard this place as my home more than that prison.

I was now aimlessly walking in the forest. I did hear some strange voices coming, but that didn’t stop me from going in further instead, I kind of get excited to explore it further.

While I was looking here and there, I suddenly heard someone howling in a loud voice. What was that just now?

Oh, no! I forgot that I am here to find the escape route for me and Sophia. I am not here to spend my time leisurely hanging around in the forest.

When suddenly, I again heard someone’s voice, but this time it was a woman’s cry. I immediately dashed towards the direction from where the voice came.

I was removing the bushes from my way whilst I was walking deep inside the forests. My hands were covered with thorns. They must be prickly bushes.

While I was walking, I heard a man’s voice so, I immediately hid. I don’t want to get caught, not now?

When I peeked towards the man from afar place, I saw a man with his hands covered with blood. 

He was drinking some woman’s blood whilst she was shrieking in pain on the ground. I am not able to see his face properly.

What the hell did I just witness? Who the heck is that guy? I don’t know who he is, but one thing is for sure that he is not some regular human.

He is a vampire who is sucking someone’s blood in front of my eyes.

His eyes are red and the way he is smirking at the woman’s body is sending chills down my spine.

I covered my mouth with my hand so that he won’t be able to hear my voice or breath. I don’t want to become his next meal.

“Who is there. Come out. You can’t hide from me”, the man asserted in a deep and cold voice while I got goosebumps all over my body.

What should I do now? Am I going to die by his hands or should I by his fangs?

I then rubbed my hands and gulped down hard while my eyes were fixed on that man.
