New Treasure

509 Words
Lifting up the covers from over her face, Lynney surrendered her heavy sleep to the brightness of the morning sun's rays as another new early spring day graciously began. Rubbing her tired eyes and giving in to a lazy yawn, Lynney shook herself awake to sit up on her twin size bed. Her mind clearly needed some shuffling due to the haziness resulting from less than 5 hours' sleep. Pulling herself together, she groped for her alarm clock on the bedside table, which was unfortunately no longer buzzing for some reason, and checked the time. 8 o' clock sharp. Thank goodness that it felt as accurate as reality. Only now left for the day and date to be confirmed. Lynney gave her right cheek a dull pinch and prepared to leap out of bed. Alas! Her foot kicked something tender and ticklish...She quickly flipped off the edge of the covers, only to find a furry treasure she surprisingly encountered the previous night... "Ohmigosh...you're still here!" That soft angelic being appeared to be lying snugly by her most comfy pillow on the lower side of her bed. Lynney quickly swept it into her arms and held it close, "Really sorry dear...just didn't expect this to be so real indeed...Did you mean to stay here for good?" The poor little thing seemed to be enjoying her cuddle, for it was not squirming nor moving strongly, which immediately reminded Lynney of its bandaged hind limb. One more thing which she observed was that the bunny appeared to be trying so hard to keep its eyes open fully, as though it was much more sleepy than a coffee-deprived Lynney. The girl was careful not to unnecessarily touch on the vulnerable bun's sore leg as she carried it. "Hmmm...PLHEM - 0104...What could that mean?" Lynney wondered and questioned as she headed out of her room to the living area. Her next thought was to call her mom in another town where she grew up in as well as to turn on her laptop to check the day's date. Setting her newfound companion down gently on the couch right beside her, Lynney could not help smiling at the sweet little creature as it squinted with its pair of weak half-closed eyes back up at hers. "Shall I give you a name? You do have these cute little chocolate brown spots under your whiskers - how about 'Specky'?" At such instant, little bun moved its pair of sharp standing ears adorably...Lynney giggled heartily, "Is that a yes from you?" Another sure twitch of both its long snow-white ears just made Lynney wanted to hug it close and tight..."Alright, the one and only 'Specky'!" Lynney ruffled affectionately its soft furry cotton-like ears and could not felt to be more happy in her life. She was about to get it some lettuce from the refrigerator when an inevitable sideglance made her noticed from her laptop screen that the day was already back to normal - a Sunday! Now, she really ought to call her mom for some help!
