Lynney contemplated on not answering her phone but it turned out that the ringing persisted. Once stopped for the first round, the call repeated again until she decided that she would turn down anything the supposedly clinic assistant would request of her before she ultimately picked up her phone.
"Hello, is that Miss Dawson?"
Lynn sighed, "Yes, speaking..."
"Oh great...Miss Dawson, this is Cyndi from Sweet Little Ones(SLO) Vet Clinic calling on behalf of Dr Lane, who has just seen your pet bunny, 'Specky'..."
Lynn felt like sighing in exasperation again at the sound of the 'most inexperienced' vet's name being mentioned but she still kept her cool. "Yes, what is the matter?"
"Right, now pertaining to Specky's accident, Dr Lane recommend doing a brief X-ray on her just so as to confirm that her left limb is not broken, even though upon this morning's physical examination, it could well be a minor sprain..."
Lynn just found one more major reason to hate this unreasonable doctor, "I'm sorry...I don't think I would like to attempt that for Specky...He did say it is a sprained one after all..."
It was Cyndi's turn to sigh this time instead, "Yes, Miss Dawson...I see what you mean, but based on the report and order by Dr Lane, he did notice certain abnormalities in Specky's reflexes which unfortunately, I would have to say that she also needs some blood work done..."
Almost instinctively, Lynney demanded flatly, "How much would they cost?"
The strong tone in Lynney's voice caused Cyndi to pause momentarily before answering, "It's $750 for the X-ray and $300 for the comprehensive blood test."
Such heavy price tag caused Lynney's fury to rise like rapid steam for yet the second time round within a single day. What was undesirable was that she had to let out her indignation on a third party like poor Cyndi...And so the result was that both ladies were not having a positive conversational exchange with each other.
When Lynney outrightly turned down the costly diagnostic procedures for Specky(not excluding a few negative remarks about that doctor), Cyndi felt that she needed to raise a defence for her workplace senior.
"I'm extremely sorry for the poor impression Dr Lane might have given you, Miss Dawson. However, I would like to clarify that Dr Lane is a well-respected professional, having done more years of advanced postgraduate training in the discipline than any other vet who has ever joined our clinic. Such hard and commendable work earned him the qualification of a highly-certified veterinary surgeon in the field. You can definitely read more about his long list of accolades on our website in order to get familiar..." Cyndi's remarkable patience supposedly could have bring down Lynney's emotional temperature, yet at the thought that a person like Dr Lane would deserve Cyndi's praise, Lynney resolved to not go ahead with an appointment booking and merely hung up right away with a reluctant word of 'sorry'.
Slumping back onto the couch, Lynney immediately switched off her cellphone and let out deep long sigh, rubbing her forehead and shutting her eyes for a relief of immense tension. It was least expected that a typical weekend would turn upside down and wear her out like crazy...She recalled that she was happily watching a valentine's day movie just seven days ago at an hour like this...So where have the unpredictable hands of time taken her at this point? Did all the clocks and watches in the city get bend out of shape to give her an extra Friday's birthday yesterday? And where did Rolleen and Specky fit into the whole puzzle all this while? Were they God's official birthday gifts for her this year?
Lynney felt she badly needed a late afternoon nap to clear her mind off the questions...She opened her weary eyes again only to be greeted by the endearing sight of sweet little Specky nibbling on a mouthful of tasty lettuce, offering exhausted Lynney a chance to giggle with delight at her beloved newfound companion...She could not resist herself from drawing adorable Specky back into her arms once more, hugging it close but still cautious enough to not disturb its left limb...
In a matter of less than ten minutes of bliss between the two, Lynney's home phone started ringing out loud even though her cellphone has been powered off, almost scaring the wits out of them both...
