Chapter 6 Thinking About The Past

593 Words
Night slowly descended in the bustling and lively city. She finally came back. After six years. To her hometown. Due to a foolish mistake from six years ago, her trails vanished from the city. It was time she came back. To start over. Lily Cox stood next to the window and glanced at the night city view below her. Her mind was lost in thought until she felt a pair of small arms around her waist. Then came a soft voice. “Mommy, are you thinking about me? I’ve only gone to take a shower. Why do you look so lonely?” Brody came out of the bathroom to see Lily’s lonely expression. He frowned. Although his mommy never said anything, he knew she had been thinking since they got off the plane. He knew his mommy the best. Lily carried Brody to the sofa and sat down. This used to be her and her father’s place six years ago. Before coming back, Heather had someone tidy up the place. Nothing changed. It still felt like home. She could feel her father here. “Honey, do you even know what it means to be lonely? Don’t say things you don’t understand. Here, let me dry your hair before you get a cold.” Lily chuckled. She gently dried her little boy’s hair with a towel. “Mommy, you miss grandfather and daddy, right? Or are you thinking about Uncle Zachary?” The little boy’s eyes were shining bright, and this gave Lily a headache. Yeah. She missed the little boy’s grandfather. Her father went missing when she was three months pregnant with Brody. She didn’t even have time to tell her old man that she was pregnant. When she gave birth to Brody, after some investigation, she found out her father might be in Nashville. Therefore, when Brody turned a month old, she started treading on the journey to find her little boy’s grandfather. It was a long journey. In the blink of an eye, six years passed. As for the ‘daddy’ the little boy was talking about… Ahem… She heard Brody talk endlessly about the father she couldn’t even place a name to for the past six years. Whenever he mentioned him, her mind would instantly recall the terrifying yet shameful crazy night she shared with him. Even now, she could feel the rough marks he left on her. As a result, she didn’t like Brody’s biological father at all. Even if she was the one who entered the wrong room first. After Zachary settled the mother-son pair down, he returned to his place. He had branch offices here. He came back with Lily not only for her, but he also intended to stay here long-term to handle the family business. “Brody, I won’t sleep with you tonight if you keep talking. You can sleep with the puppet I had when I was young.” Lily scared him playfully. “Ahh! No! I’ll get nightmares if I don’t sleep with you! I refuse.” Brody snuggled in Lily’s arms and acted cutely. Lily didn’t have the heart to let him sleep alone anyway. Deep at night, the mother-son pair hugged each other to sleep. Hearing her little boy’s breathing and the cute smile on his face, Lily kissed his forehead in peace. She pulled the blanket closer to him. The hardships she suffered as a single mother for the past six years were washed away whenever she saw Brody. In replacement was the satisfaction and happiness she felt with him.
