I looked up at him as he walked down the stairs towards me.
'Carry on ladies'. He told them. At first they all seemed really hesitant but eventually went back to making all their noise and laughing and joking as if Christopher wasn't even wasn't here.
I really hoped he was passing through, but when he sat on the chair next to me, I sighed a little to myself.
'Why aren't you getting all happy-go-lucky like the others?' He asked. His voice was low, For a moment I wasn't even sure he had spoken to me, I could feel his eyes burning holes in the side of my face.
'Um, I figured I'd just wait'. I told him.
'These times are the only moments all these girls get to have a 'human'' moment'. That was really sad, to be honest. Getting clothes for a party THEY will have to work is their only chance to have a moment to be happy.
The thought upset me.
'Geran has your dress'. He told me.
'Aren't I wearing the same as them?' I asked, pointing at the horrible black dresses all the other girls seemed to be grabbing off the rails. Chris silenced a laugh.
'No'.
'Oh... Well, Where's Geran?' I asked.
'Who am I, His keeper?' I quickly shook my head and lowered my gaze to my lap.
Suddenly, Chris put his hand on my thigh, Squeezing. I hissed in pain, but he just tightened his grip.
'Go find him'. He hissed harshly in my ear before letting go and walking off down the corridor.
Sighing I stood up and wandered off, In search of my friend.
It was a good 20 minutes before I managed to track him down, and sure enough, He did have my dress.
'Here you go' He said, Passing it over to me, with another box that I'm guessing was my shoes.
'Thank you'. He didn't really make any more effort to talk, So I just turned on my heels and left him, Heading back up to the bedroom to see exactly what this dress looked like.
……..
I didn't know what to expect tonight to be honest. Anything could happen. I was going to be in a room full of vampire's. I don't know what they do at these ''Parties''.
Taking in a deep breath, I opened the doors to the ball room and headed inside. My main focus was to just find Geran and find out where I was going to be tonight. He was in charge of making sure we were all doing our jobs properly.
For someone who was only meant to be a ''Doctor'' type of ''slave'' he was certainly involved quite a lot with our business.
Looking over the crowed room, I managed to spot him over by the door that lead through to the kitchen and hurried over to him.
'Hey'. He looked up and smiled at me.
'Hello'.
'So, Where am I tonight?' I asked, Hoping whatever job it was, it would keep me away from Christopher and ...well.. everyone.
'You are on..' He trailed off and looked though his list he had on his clipboard. 'Serving drinks to start with'. I groaned. Great.
'Ok'.
'Go in the kitchen and get your tray and some drinks. When you get down to the last 2 or 3, go and refill your tray. Master Poe doesn't like the look of empty tray's'. He instructed me. I nodded, taking in all the information.
With nothing more than another smile, He turned and headed across the ballroom floor to carry on his duties.
Heading out of the kitchen for what seemed like the 100th time this evening, My lord! These vampires liked to drink. It made me feel a little sick that I was carrying around trays of blood.
Just the thought of it sent shivers down my spine!
As I began to make my way around the room, I looked around, Everyone was dressed so glamourless.
I smiled.
Of course, they were.
And then I saw him.
He was stood by the big floor length window on the far side of the room. It felt like time slowed down. I was beginning to be drowned in my emotions as they flooded over me.
I never expected to see him again!
My lack of attention got the better of me, and the tray I was carrying slipped off my shoulder and all the glasses fell to the floor, smashing everywhere.
Almost instantly everything turned their head in my direction.. including him.
His eyes met mine with shock and horror.
He stepped forward in my direction, but completely forgetting where I was, and what I was doing, I turned and ran as fast as I could, Away from the ball, away from the mess I had just made, Away from my angry master... Away from him...
Kane.
