Scarlet
***Trigger alert! Suicidal thoughts mentioned ahead. I will enclose them in '****' so you can avoid reading those part. Thank you ***
When she woke up, she had no idea how many days had passed. She found herself in unfamiliar surroundings. Albert's body wasn’t near her anymore. She looked around confused. Her memories were hazy, her mind was agitated, her senses were sharp and her thirst was uncontrollable.
She got up quickly and started looking for water. Luckily she found a small pond amongst the woods. The water looked clean. She was wondering about her whereabouts, but she desperately needed to satisfy her thirst.
She dipped her cupped hands into the warm water and lifted her hands to her lips. The water touched her lips and she spluttered. What the f**k? What is happening? Why am I hating the water?
She was still thirsty so she tried it again. But her body rejected it. After trying for a while she gave up and started wandering around the forest aimlessly. She was still as thirsty as ever. She had started feeling dizzy and tired. She still couldn’t remember the past few days.
She remembered Albert but couldn’t recollect what happened and where Albert was.
Suddenly her nose caught the scent of something mouth-watering. She lost all control and her instinct took over.
She sprinted towards the smell. A man with a gun was walking around the woods. She crouched behind a tree to see what was happening. It looked like the man was walking around stealthily.
She felt a gust of breeze and her eyes clouded over. Before she could register, she had moved to the man and dug her canines into his carotid. Finally, her thirst ebbed a little. She looked at the man in her arms. He was dead, fear clearly etched in his eyes.
Now she could think clearly, now that the thirst wasn't clouding her mind. She shouted and screamed in anguish but what came out of her mouth was a shrill screech.
She fell to the ground in despair and cried. Icy cold tears rolled through her. At least this part of being human she hadn’t lost. As she lay curled on the forest floor hating herself, hating the monster that she had turned into, she remembered the last moments of her human life. As if from a distance, she saw in her head, how she was robbed of her life and her only friend.
****Suicidal thoughts ALERT****
She wanted to die, she wanted to end this abominable life of hers! She picked up the man’s gun, directed it at her temple and pulled the trigger. She heard the chamber turn and the hammer come down. The gun went off with a loud bang, deafening her ears. The blunt nosed bullet hit her head and fell down. She touched the part where the bullet hit, there wasn’t even a dent. Her ears were still ringing from the sound of the gunshot.
She looked at the horror in the dead man’s eyes again and ran from that area. She kept running towards the north. She had no idea where she was going, what she was going to do. She tried jumping off the tallest cliff, she tried to hang herself from a tree, she attempted every trick she knew that could kill a human. Nothing happened to her.
****Suicidal thoughts end****
Within a day her thirst returned. Again, she came across a person walking alone in the outskirts of the forest. This time it was a young woman. She didn't want to kill the girl but she couldn't control herself. She was close to the girl when a man pounced on that lonely girl. He started tearing at her clothes wanting to r**e her in the deserted forest. Scarlet did not give a second thought and jumped on the man letting her instinct take over.
The man did not stand a chance as she dug her canines in his neck. While he was subdued, the girl ran away. Scarlet didn’t mind. For now, her thirst was under control.
She finally sat down under a tree in the same godforsaken forest. She cried again. She tried to put the pieces of her memory together and remembered how poor Albert had died, saving her. She also remembered hearing someone's voice in her head before killing the vampire.
She beckoned the same voice. But no one answered.
She needed to talk to that voice. She needed answers. She turned back to go to the place where she had first woken up.
As her thirst was controlled she was able to think about the other effects of her transformation. She could run at a tremendous speed. She could see everything around her clearly. She could pick sounds a mile away. She knew she could run with her eyes closed, her instinct guiding her around each obstacle, she could climb the steepest mountain, she could climb the tallest tree. She wasn’t exhausted at all. Although she was never hungry, she was thirsty.
Even when the thirst was controlled she could feel it lingering somewhere in the depths of her soul, that is, if she had a soul! She thought to herself bitterly.
She came across a deer and thought of trying something. A single leap and she was on top of the deer with her fangs in the deer's neck.
The blood didn’t taste as sweet but it helped. She continued her run.
In the next few hours, she was back at the place where she had woken up.
She tried to call the person who had spoken to her. She heard a feminine voice in her head, loud and clear. It was clearer than what she remembered hearing in her human form.
“You are right!” The female voice in her head said. “My voice is clearer to the creatures of the night. You are a vampire now, my dear. You will soon know the world of witches, vampires, werewolves and many more.”
Scarlet shuddered. “Werewolves?”
“Yes.”
“Who are you? Why did you help me?”
“Because I happened to be there at that time. Sorry I couldn’t save Albert.”
Scarlet looked at her feet. Sure that she would start crying again. Diverting her own attention she said, “I hate myself. I am a monster. I kill people.”
“Embrace your destiny, my child. You are smart. You have already tasted animal blood! Most vampires never try it. They get ruled by their thirst while you have already started mastering it.”
Scarlet remained quiet.
“What is disturbing you?”
“What happened to Albert?”
“I arranged for his burial at your house.”
“Thank you. Can I go see him?”
“Of course. Why would you think otherwise? It is your house! I have put a spell around it so no one will be able to see the house anymore. You can live there for as long as you like without worrying about anyone stumbling upon it.”
Scarlet walked towards her home. It was as if she had an inbuilt compass. She just knew the directions.

Scarlet stayed home for a few years, venturing out only when she needed blood. She managed to find animals and feed on their blood. She hated killing humans. It just made her feel more monstrous. Every evening she visited Albert's grave. She missed the bloke. He was the only friend she had found companionship in.
True to her word the witch had hidden her house well. As the years passed the forest crept towards her house and engulfed it within its ecosystem.
1901 and small celebrations were happening in Western Australia for the men returning from the Boer War. As Scarlet sat at Albert's grave over 3 decades after he died, she thought how the world would have been if he were alive. She still felt the same about losing him.
The breeze carried the strong scent of a human male. She was surprised to find a suited man wander onto her property.
He gave his name as Mr Mike. He worked for the newly formed Commonwealth Government, Ministry of Defence. They had made amendments to the highly secret department for the Mysterious Beings and he had come to invite Scarlet to become a part of the Australian Army. She would be enlisted under the highly classified, Rights, Resources and Regulation Act of the Mysterious Beings and help Western Australia in maintaining law and order.
Her name was recommended by a highly connected witch. She accepted the offer. There was going to be some real pay now. The new Act had assured livelihoods for Mysterious Beings in service. The money was more than welcome. Although she had received land in return for her services, that wasn't helping with her expenses.
This would give her time away from home and keep her engaged. It would also allow her to continue to use her inhuman speed, strength and senses for good. In return, the government was to give her a fat paycheck in human money that would allow her to have a slightly better life. The house at Jarra needed a facelift, Albert's grave needed a fitting mausoleum with a garden around it and she had plans to create an estate around the house. Well for one thing, she had time by her side.
She would get missions from time to time and free time at her disposal between two consecutive missions. Slowly with the money coming in, her condition improved. She did up the house and employed staff to manage it.

By the 21st century she had left the Australian army and moved in conservation, still working for the government. In 2012, she was sent to Myponga on a mission to capture a group of timber poachers. One afternoon she was looking for animal blood when a scent of wildflowers and honey teased her nostrils. She saw Miro attack Kirra and she jumped in to save the twelve year old. The guy was holding his d**k and asking the almost naked girl to suck it. The girl's clothes were torn and she was crying profusely. She had bruises and scratches over her body. She appeared to be in pain.
Scarlet fought with Miro but he ran away when Kirra shifted into her werewolf. She liked the girl. Kirra was regularly abused by Miro so she decided to train her in self defence. The poor soul was a scared little thing and she was going to make sure that the girl became a strong fighter not to be abused by anyone ever again.
